OK, just as a reference point:
Boots of Levitation - 7500gp
Headband of vast intellect +2 - 4000gp
ring of protection +2 - 8000gp
ring of Wizardry II - 40,000gp
Scroll: Dominate Person - 1125gp
Scroll summon monster VI - 1650gp
dagger +3 - 18,302gp
bracers of armor +2 - 4000gp
Boots of the Winterlands - 2500gp
matched pair of +2 keen short swords - 18,310gp each (36,620 total)
leather armor +3 - 9160gp
+2 long spear - 8305gp
Bottle of Air - 7250gp
2 bottles of night* - ???
cloaks of Arachnida (3) - 14,000gp each (42,000gp total)
CASH
gems - 10,000gp
jewelry - 5000gp
total value of all magic items (not including the bottles of night, which I couldn't find) = 190,412gp
Sale value would be 95,206gp
average per person (divided by 7 - Ekuur, Isaac, Merle, Rhiannon, Nari, Karrin, Justin; let me know if I forgot anyone) = 27,201gp (with 5gp left over) or 13,600 gp if all items were sold for cash
Cash = 15,000gp, or 2142 gp per person
Again, just a reference point for selecting items; not trying to account for every gold exactly here.

Thanks for the list Pat.
Tomorrow, If you like, I'll try to take over the list of who claims what from the loot pile, and the others can take their share of it in GP & exchange/buy what they want offscreen. Is that what I'm understanding?
Justin would most certainly be drooling over both the Headband of Intellect, and the Ring of Wizardry. (Although the Ring alone would technically be worth more than his entire 'equal' GP share value)
Karrin Kind |
Karrin got a rather impressive axe very early on in her adventures, perhaps before any of the current crew joined us, and I'm pretty much happy with Karrin's gear at the moment. I think I just want to work on upgrading what she has now. Maybe she could add a revolver later at some point, I think that would look better as the weapon she never uses rather then the short bow (which she never uses).
-edit- Looking back Karrin got her magical axe just over four years ago! And it was before anyone else in the current party joined.

And if you wanna try a revolver, I can work with that. I haven't done a lot of looking at magical firearms (firearms kinda leave me cold in fantasy RPGs unless its modern day) Post up some likelies or some links and I'll try and work one in.
Also, I did this a while back, but if there is anything anyone is thinking about magic item-wise, let me know here and I will try and work it into the game if I can.

The way I always liked dividing up treasure was to get the GP value for all the loot as if the items had been sold, give everyone a cut, and then let the PCs buy back whatever loot they want from said pile. People buy items back at half price (unless it's gems or other trade goods) and then after everyone has what they want things are sold and money divide up letting the PCs who didn't want items use the cash. Unfortunately with a nice big piece of treasure like the ring of wizardry II it would mean that one PC would need to go into debt to the party. But this system usually gives everyone an equal share and makes others question the value of magical items knowing that they need to pay for the items out of their cut rather then say "well if no one else wants it I'll take it."
One of the reasons my conjuror Tristan Lidu made it to 15th level with only a silver dagger as her melee weapon was that I never valued melee weapons as a caster and thus never bothered buying back any of the multitude of magical daggers we stumbled across.

I seriously doubt Karrin would ever use a ranged weapon, I mean she hasn't up to this point, but going with her Hellboy motif a revolver would fit the character. Plus it would be kind of fun having a big old bang stick for getting everyone's attention.

First off, GREAT work all!
Man o man I love working with people like you all!
Great writing, (much better than my usual rambling) great insights (or at least glimpses) into characters, great interactions and RPing.
NICE work everyone! :D
ABout the loot;
I will be happy to split/divide the treasure in any way we can all agree on.
Certainly there are as many ways of doing it as there are players in the world! :)
I'm certainly amicable to the 'Divide the GP value into equal shares to all, and buy what you want from the pile with your share' method. And in most normal loot piles that works excellently. Unfortunately it would put Justin into the hole quite a bit regarding the Ring of Wiz II in this case. But as it is an EXTREMELY useful item, I do not mind that. And it is certainly the most 'equal and fair' way that I can see.
However, I'll point out that I'm an old throwback from 1ed. LONG before 'balance' had ever been applied to the game (except for certain traps that shall remain nameless!) ;P And I am used to some piles of loot being far more useful to some PC's than others. I am used to taking what is there and making use of it, and only just getting it into my head that I can SELL the stuff and buy something else if I want! ;P
And in some cases some things are just going to be more valuable (in use if not in GP value) than others. Karrin's axe for example. Or Isaac's impressive broadsword.
(And don't even get me started on how some items are 'possibly' just a tad overpriced! That is another discussion, and I'm lousy at math anyway, so,...)
ANY way, I'm happy with any agreed upon solution. EIther way, I think Justin's getting a new ring, and he'll be bumming GP off his friends to buy drinks with! :)
EDIT- And I wanna see KArrin with a revolver! A big one that screams 'STEAMPUNK!' in all capital letters!

No problem, Pat. I know how you feel.
As far as loot goes, I'm fine with using the buyback method and just docking the next treasure cache for anyone that really wants something from the pile (like a ring and a headband for our wizard). I see it as an investment in the party. I did kind of prefer using what you find as opposed to buying magic items like in 3rd edition and Pathfinder; but this is a high powered plane hopping campaign, so magic stuff would be common enough.
I'll probably just forego the short sword- the greatsword outpaces it pretty much everywhere. Those cloaks really could come in handy- constant spider climb, a web spell once a day and walk through existing webs without hassle? But if it comes between that and improving my AC or movement speed, I dunno. I will buy off that Bottle of Air if no one else wants to split it with me; the whole party can use that in airless environments to stay alive.
Considering if I want to try trading in my frost greatsword for a shock greatsword instead; Ekuur's got a fire weapon and Karrin's axe is ice- we could "diversify our energy output for maximum synergy" as Corporate Speak Isaac would say.
Guy Humual |
That ring of wizardry is too nice to loose though, if you want to take it Ragadolf Karrin wouldn't mind carrying Justin's debt for a while.
Also in the sell and divide mode the group can choose not to sell off items and consider it party treasure. We usually saw heal items and transport items (like bags of holding and wagons) as party treasure as everyone in the group benefited from the items.
Ragadolf |
Sokay PAt, see you back soon! :)
(RL happens, what ya gonna do?) ;)
Thank you Guy, that's a kind offer (and I may take you up on it!)
I agree with your last statement, and think it should be quite easy (if we all agree) to combine all 3 methods (or is that 2?)
Meaning keep what we want (buyback method?) sell what we don't, and agree not to sell certain useful items and keep as 'party treasure-for the good of all'
Looking back at the list, There are several decent items that could be useful, if not used as often as our 'primary' items.
And lets face it, some items are just useful, (and cool!) like the cloaks! :)
hm, question, are we considering Seph as a full 'party member'?, (he has benefited from party loot before, notably his robe that lets him re-assume humanoid form) Or are we just going to allow him to use items that he might find useful but otherwise 'no share'? (considering that Merle plans on keeping him OUT of combat if at all possible I'm sure!) ;)
Guy Humual |
well generally what we did with henchmen and followers (though not familiars but Seph is a bit of a special case I suppose) is give them a 1/4 of a share of the loot. So right now we have Karrin, Isaac, Justin Ekuur, Nari, Merle, and Rhiannon as full party members. That's 7 PCs. What we'd do is figure out evenone's cut as if there were one extra member of the party (so in the case 8), divide the extra share into 4, give Seph a cut of that, and then divide the remaining 3/4ths back amongst the full party members. The math isn't exact unless you actually have four henchmen in the party but it's usually close enough.
Usually though a familiar doesn't contribute enough to be considered a henchman or a follower and looking after the familiar's loot is up to the caster.
Ragadolf |
I'm good with either way.
It was actually just a random thought I had, thought I'd share it, that's all! :)
(I'm actually NOT trying to over-complicate the process, believe me!) ;)
My familiars (when I remember they are there!) tend to be more comic relief than anything useful. Although they ARE extremely useful for getting second Perception checks and spotting nearby enemies. ;)

Marking up Bryan's helpful list for distribution purposes:
Boots of Levitation - 7500gp
Headband of vast intellect +2 - 4000gp (Justin?)
ring of protection +2 - 8000gp (Nari)
ring of Wizardry II - 40,000gp (Justin)
Scroll: Dominate Person - 1125gp (Merle?)
Scroll summon monster VI - 1650gp (Merle?)
dagger +3 - 18,302gp (Merle?)
bracers of armor +2 - 4000gp (Nari)
Boots of the Winterlands - 2500gp (Nari)
matched pair of +2 keen short swords - 18,310gp each (36,620 total)
leather armor +3 - 9160gp
+2 long spear - 8305gp (Rhiannon?)
Bottle of Air - 7250gp
2 bottles of night* - ???
cloaks of Arachnida (3) - 14,000gp each (42,000gp total)
CASH
gems - 10,000gp
jewelry - 5000gp
total value of all magic items (not including the bottles of night, which I couldn't find) = 190,412gp
Sale value would be 95,206gp

Cash = 15,000gp, or 2142 gp per person
So Patrick said to go by list price for magic items since our hosts are pretty flush with cash. Each share of cash and magic items comes to a total of 29,343 gp each.
Justin's ring and headband are a cool 44,000 gp, leaving him to forego 14,657 gp in future treasure finds and reducing the other six portions by 2,443 gp each rounded up, yielding 26,900 each.
Nari's ring, bracers and boots come to 14,500, leaving her with 12,400 gp left in her share.
Merle's scrolls and dagger come to 21,077, leaving her with 5,823gp as cash from her share.
If Rhiannon takes the spear, that's 8,305 gp from her share leaving her with 18,595 gp remaining in her take.
If we take the Bottle of Air as party treasure, we reduce each share by 1,036 gp (rounded up).
James Keegan |
Isaac's treasure total comes to 25,864 gp (as does Karrin's and Ekuur's since I don't think they declared that they wanted anything, also assuming we're all reducing our shares for the Bottle of Air).
For 7,750 I'll enhance my mithral shirt to at +2 shadow mithral shirt (assuming I don't have to buy the whole thing as a new item- which would drive the cost up to 9,000 gp).
Total after purchase: 18,114 gp (or 16,864)
For 5,500 gp Isaac will get Boots of Striding and Springing.
Total after purchase: 12,614 gp (or 11,364)
For 4,000 gp I'll get a Belt of Incredible Dexterity +2.
Total after purchase: 8,614 (or 7,364)
And I'll sit on that total for now while i think of what else to buy or whether to buy anything else at all.

Ok, I'd like to do the following:
upgrade my armor to halfplate +3 - 8000gp
get a belt of physical might (strength, constitution) +2 and a skullcap of inspired wisdom +2 (same as headband, just different look) - 14000gp
He'll keep the remaining 3864gp
The upgrade to the armor would take 8 days, so that'll have to wait until we have that amount of time.
lynora |
Okay, so I'd like to get these items:
Efficient Quiver - 1800gp
Handy Haversack - 2000gp
Ring of Feather Fall-2200gp
assorted arrows such as blunt and smoke arrows -58gp total
mundane adventuring equipment -183 gp
And then whatever it will cost to have the stone that she got from the lady set into a necklace.

I just got the chance to go and visit my Mom in OK this week. (Trying to time the visit before her next Chemo, when she won't feel like having company) So, I will be out of town most if not all week.
I should have access to Inete, what I probably won't have is much time. But I will try to check in as often as possible.
Sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you for understanding!
See you all back soon, and Happy 4th! :)

Also after adding together her reward with her current wealth here are the things Merle would wish to buy
Headband of Charsma + 4 for 16000
2 Belt of dexterity + 2 for 4000 each (One for Seph)
Leaving her 1976 gold
Merle also has a Black saphire she needs valued. as well as that strange map she has had since very early on.

Apologies once again, everyone. This weekend I lost my dog to a stroke. I haven't been all together this week, and I also had a nurse quit on me.
The good news is the nurse quitting means I will likely be chained to the house for the next few days (after work). I will be endeavoring to update at that point.
Guy Humual |
That's some bad news Patrick. From what I understand strokes are quite rare in dogs, I thought my own had suffered from one a few years back, she had flopped over and was unable to get up, but it turned out that the old girl just had a fairly common inner ear thing. It took her a week to get over it and her head is still slightly tilted to the side, but I am thankful that I didn't need to have her put down. I'm sorry for your loss. Come back when you're ready.
Ragadolf |
Hey all,
Just (FINALLY) trying to catch up on all my updating, and thought I'd start with my currently favorite fireball flinger!
:)
So, Justin will take the Headband of Intellect II and the Ring of Wizardry II, knowing full well that it will eat into future shares of treasure. And grinning that he STILL got a deal! :)
(I'm looking back through the list, I thought I had seen where one of you math geniuses had posted exactly how much that would leave him owing, but I don't see it now.)
EDIT- NM, I found it!
Justin owes 14,657GP from future shares
Also, didn't we each get a bag of coins from the Lady during this adventure? Before the last final throw-down? (Or am I confusing that with something from another thread?)
Have a good weekend all!

I say stroke, basically because he fell asleep and didn't wake up. He passed peacefully in his sleep, so I thought heart failure was the likely cause.
I just lost my dog this past Thursday. She was 14 years old. I already miss her like hell. It's like loosing a member of the family.
