Well then master Oleg, it seems we have at least a rudimentary plan. If you dont mind if my boy stays in with you and your wife while we deal with the bandits I would be most appreciative.

He began still looking about the place.

well then, should we find our places for this ambush and see about camoflauging them up as well as we can? Their liable to have bows as well Pyros, when they come in and make their demands how would you feel about turning over the table and using it as some cover? maybe make them come in a little close before the women folk open up with bows on the roofs and walls?

He asked the obvious swordsman.

The spells i will be memorizing are 0 level - light, virtue, spark, 1 - level - Bane, shield of faith, and (domain) Bless

"Maybe your son should hide in the stable. If you lose, the bandits will want revenge on me and Svetlana. They don't know about him though. Oleg suggests.

Looking around at the arrangement of buildings in the fort, Pyros shakes his head. "I'm not so sure about that, Herger. I would expect them to come close anyway, and overturned tables might actually make them stop early. Besides, the distance isn't that much. If we stay out of sight until they are inside the gates, they'll be close enough for us to quickly reach me lee range. I'd rather have the room to maneuver than be stuck behind a table waiting on them to come to me."

"Aye Regina, the less the bandits know the better. Any of you all ever been huntin?" Autumn asked. "I feel like we should treat this more like that. The items they want from Oleg act as our bait, and we can follow the prey all the way back to its den. Then bring everything they took from Oleg, that they still have, back." She explained as she picked up the two hand axes. "But like I said, that is the long game."

Grinning at the, however unintentional, praise. Yeah, I can do this. I am not totally useless. Pausing and looking confused at Autumn's ending statement, "But I thought we were stopping them here? I though you would be following their tracks here?"

Pyros nods to Regina. "Indeed. Are you suggesting we just let our hosts be robbed, then follow the thieves back? Can you track a horse-mounted party on foot, however far away their lair is? Even if you can, I don't know that I'm comfortable simply sitting by and risking harm to the Levetons." he says, brows furrowing.

Additional exploration of the outpost finds the latrines, built under the catwalk, behind the stables. There is a bucket of ash from the fire, and a scoop to sprinkle it with, when one's business is done. Keeps the stench and flies away. There is also a basin and bucket of water for washing after.

Behind the shed are two covered areas, roofs supported by a pole at each corner. Under these, Oleg hangs the hides and pelts that hunters bring in for trade. Storage racks.
There are: 2 elk hides, 3 deer hides, 1 badger pelt, 3 fox pelts, and 1 wolf pelt hanging on cords from the rafters.

Under the catwalk, on the wall opposite the latrines is the supply of firewood for the fort. It is neatly stacked and covered with a canvas tarpaulin. The planks of the catwalk are spaced about a half inch apart, so rain can drip down; thus the need for a cover. Wood pile.

There is a chopping block, and wood-cutter's axe.

Oleg has only about a half cord of wood laid up. He will need to replenish his supply through the summer, for next winter.

Taenweth listened to her companions with a critical ear. Since she was not versed in bow, she could not understand the priest's insistence the womenfolk attack with such weapons being she was one and had mentioned not moments earlier that her talent lay in rapier and dagger.

"I believe in the element of surprise. Make them believe it is only the Levetons, here. We tie the horses, out of sight in the stable and we find suitable places to hide in wait, ready to ambush their riders. Even if we cannot presently affix the gates to their posts, we can use ropes to stop them from riding out. As to following them back with the stolen goods, I would rather stop them here, keep one bandit alive for questioning and find out the location of the camp and other important detail and then we go scouting. We have no clear knowledge of their numbers, and, to fight all of them at their camp does not seem the wisest plan for they will have the advantage, there."

While Pyros hadn't yet mentioned interrogating a bandit, it had occurred to him as a possible way of learning the bandits' location. On the other hand, he hadn't thought about the numbers aspect of following the bandits. He finds himself nodding along with Taenweth.

"Taenweth makes excellent points. Surprise is always a useful tool, and engaging some here and some later would be much better than trying to take them all at once."

Female Aasimar( Agathion-Blooded) Hunter 3 HP:25/28 F +6, R+5, W +3 | AC19 T12 FF17 | Initiative +2, Perception +7, Senses: Darkvision

"If you all would prefer to fight them here then I shall not argue. But know that puts those here in greater danger. If we are fighting them here then yes, surprise is the greatest weapon we have on our side. I would suggest camouflage, but honestly how many here know how to properly use it?" Autumn asked. "I'm a hunter, and have used it before, Taenweth said she was a scout so I would think she's used it before but I never like to assume." She said.

That Pyros acknowledged and approved of her points pleased her and Taenweth gave the Aldori Swordlord an admiring smile.

Taenweth looked across at Autumn with deep green appraising eyes. The Elf responded openly to the Aasimar, "I can blend into a forest with ease. In open plains, it can be harder but not impossible for those with foresight. I am capable of concealment, like Autumn." Taeweth bowed her head in acknowledgement of the Aasimar huntress.

He didnt like the idea of hiding then striking from no where unseen... It felt very much like something bandits would do. Open defiance was a symbol... he could also see the wisdom in their plans.

"I have no such skill in hiding but If I am within a buidling out of sight i should be fine yes?"

He asked accepting the new plan with a slight grimace but accepting it none the less.

Dont mind Herger, hes just a curmudgeonly slightly sexist, lightly racist Ulfen man. I am sure you ladies will no doubt bring him around :)

Nodding enthusiastically with Taenweth and waiting for the others to chime in before adding her option. "I like the stealth option."

Looking and sounding a little self conscious, "But I will admit that I have no practiced skill in it."

As the sun sets, Svetlana begins to bring out the food. It is a savory stew made of game meats, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, celery, and thickened with buckwheat. The smell is delightful. Svetlana also brings out loaves of dark bread with butter and honey. There are carved wooden spoons and large ceramic bowls to eat the stew with. People typically provide their own knives, but Svetlana can provide one if asked.

Oleg brings wood from his stock pile and builds the bonfire up high, its lured red, orange, and yellow flames light the courtyard with a flickering glow.
He lights torches and sets them in sconces by the door to the main hall, the bunk house, and the entrance to the stable.

Moving time forward a bit. There's plenty of time to work out a plan so take as long as you like.

Taenweth moved to the table laden with the food. She served herself a bowl of the stew and added a hunk of the dark bread with honey. Picking up a wooden spoon she found a spot at the table and sat down to eat. Looking across at the mistress of the fort, she added, "A fine meal, Mistress Svetlana. Thank you," before spooning a little of the stew into her mouth. The flickering flames and torch light gave a certain serenity to the setting, even though the bandit raid come the morning was pressing on her mind.

Taenweth, recollecting Herger's and Regina's earlier words, now responded,

"Aye. Perhaps those less skilled in concealment should remain back and hidden out of sight until the bandits are inside the fort and those skilled in stealth can lead the action."

Autumn gladly accepted the food. "This is wonderful, thank you very much." She told the woman, before she set in on the stew, giving some to Frostbite. "I can use concealment, but I cannot attack from there. Perhaps the upper lofts of the stables? I could hide there and still be able to make a shot at our bandits." Autumn pointed out.

"I could teach Herger how to make Frostbite join the the attack." She told the others before she looked to the cleric. "You're very good with her, and she likes you. I feel she will listen to you the most." She said before taking another bite of stew. "But whatever we do, we need to ensure everyone knows it. So that everything goes... as well as it could."

All the horses are in the stables?

More than happy to move to the table and get some much needed food. Smiling when she sees the food come out, "That smells wonderful!"

Content to quietly eat her stew and that wonderful bread while dreading the return of conversation. Closing her eyes for a moment when Taenweth starts to talk. Turning her brown eyes back to Taenweth, "That seems a sound idea to me. It leaves less to chance. What exactly is the plan once they are in the gates? I know we have spoken up blocking there exit."

Male Half-Elf Fighter (Aldori Defender/Steelbound) 5 VMC Magus: HP 8/53 : AC: 28, T: 21, FF: 18 (+1 after full attack, +4 if fighting defensively): Fort: +8 Ref +6 Will: +2 (+2 vs Fear) : Perception +12, Low-light vision, Init +4 Fighter (Aldori Defender/Steelbound) 5 VMC Magus

Pyros nods at Taenweth's praise of the cooking. "A meal as fine as the company!" he says, with a wink at Taenweth.

Later, when the talk turns to tactics, Pyros speaks up again, gesturing toward the gate. "I was thinking that it would be good to have the archers" he nods to Autumn and Regina "on the catwalk above the gate. As long as they stay low, the palisade will shield them from view from the outside, and once things get hairy, they can discourage bandits from running back out the gate. Even if a bandit gets out, they can turn and pepper him as he runs away."

Male Ulfen Human Cleric 3 Hp:24/24 F +4, R+2, W +6 AC16 T-11 FF-13 Initiative +1, Perception +3, Sense Motive +7

The large Ulfen man accepted the meal for he and his boy in an almost stoic silence and they joined the others. He spoke lowly more for himself than anyone else, his son intoning the same short little prayer with him, thanking Erastil for providing a meal now, and for future meals shared with family and friends. Both ate with a gusto.

I imagine our four legged friend here could harry them if they try and flee as well, not many men i think could outrun a wolf.

He said slowly reaching forward to pat the scruff of Autumn's companion. He didnt have much to input into the plan as it were, Pyros and the elven woman clearly had a mind for such things he realized after the conversation had started so he left they planning to them.

As everyone seems to be finished with their meal, Svetlana bring out a bottle of dark red wine, as well as glasses for everyone. She hands the bottle to Oleg to uncork, then hands out the glasses as Oleg pours.
Once everyone has a glass, Svetlana holds her glass and begins to speak.
"These bandits are evil people. They threatened to chop off Oleg's hand. They threatened to drag me off. They threatened me with unspeakable outrages if Oleg did not give them his stock of goods. They were very sincere in their threats."
Svetlana and Oleg both have very serious expressions on their faces as Svetlana continues. "If you are to fight these bandits you must be prepared to deal with them harshly. They will certainly show you no mercy if they gain the upper hand."
The firelight lights Svetlana's face with a flickering red glow as she looks around to each of you.
"We appreciate your offer to help deal with these bandits... Here Oleg steps in. "But we want you to understand the type of scum you will be dealing with. This is no happy go lucky band of rogues. These are murderous cutthroats."

Pyros nods gravely, drinking in the full gravity of the situation. "All the more reason to stand against them, friends. My faith teaches that evil triumphs when good men do nothing. I cannot stand idly by and allow these scoundrels to victimize innocents. Tomorrow they will reap the fruit of the seed they've sown, you have my word as an Aldori swordsman."

"Bandits are a threat to all who wish to call this place home. They need to be removed in order for people to settle down." Autumn said with a small nod. "I will gladly held rid these lands of them." Autumn said. "And I will be harsh." She ensured them.

"After we eat we I would like to talk about sleep cycles. Each of us watching the gate to ensure they don't come any earlier then planned." She said before taking a large bite of stew.

Pulling a her bread apart to collect the last of her soup as Svetlana starts talking. That brilliant combination of fresh bread softened by soup turns to ash the more that woman speaks. No. This is what I came here for so I will keep my food down, dammit!

Nodding along with Pyros and Autumn, "People who prey on others deserve no mercy." I can do this.

Looking over at Autumn, "I can take whatever watch but my eyes are better with more light."

"Then here's to your victory on the morrow." Svetlana smiles. She and Oleg raise their glasses in a toast around the table.

Autumn lifts her glass as Frostbite offers a bark. "To victory." She said with a smile before she took a drink.

"Even if there horses did would the bandits be smart enough to know why the horses are worried?" Autumn asked. "Though I can cover her with a mix of mud and paint so the horses don't smell." She stated.

"As to hiding in the stable loft and firing from there, it could be done if we created an arrowslit so you could fire at the bandits in the courtyard with some cover and concealment. I like the idea of masking the wolf's scent as best as possible. Frostbite will also be useful if they try to ride back out the fort - as Herger has mentioned the wolf could harry the horses."

As to watch shifts, she responded, "I think it wiser to pair those who cannot see in the dark with those who can. I can see in low light, but not darkness. As to the night watch, tell me which you would have me take, and I shall abide."

Thinking of the best placement for herself and others, she looked at the broken gates, under the catwalk and wood pile.

"Those of us with more skill at stealth could take position under the catwalk, beneath the canvas tarpaulin of the wood pile. I could hide and lie in wait, there, if you think the spot has merit as a hiding place. Then once they are inside, I would attempt to sneak out and attack them from behind."

The stable has a hayloft. It is accessed by doors at each end, above the ground level doors. Oleg uses his portable ladder to climb up. The ridge beam is fitted with a sturdy hook, to support a pulley, so heavy hay bales can be hoisted up to the loft.

There is a hatch above the stall in the west corner (inside). Oleg usually drops the hay through as needed.

"I still thinking positioning our archers on the catwalk above the gate makes the most sense. If they stay low, they'll be invisible behind the palisade until they choose to reveal themselves." Pyros says, gesturing toward the nearest wall. "Once the fracas starts, it allows us to control the exit, hopefully keeping them from getting out of the fort. Even if they brave the hail of arrows to escape the fort, the archers can just turn and hit them again as they try to flee."

Taenweth cocked her head before responding to Pyros. "Autumn stated she wanted to be in the loft of the stable to shoot her bow from there. I merely stated there had to be access for such to the courtyard below. If you believe she would be better suited with Regina on the catwalk, I have no issue with that and you may convince her of so." (Um, who are our archers apart from Autumn? Herger wanted to be out of sight inside a building (presumably with Autumn's wolf)...Regina said she had no bow but Oleg provided us with one, so I presumed she'd use it but nothing was mentioned by Regina, I don't think...)

Just Autumn and Regina, as far as I know

Shrugging a bit, Pyros responds to the elven woman. "Fair enough, enfilading fire could beneficial. Arrows coming from multiple directions also might make the bandits think there are more of us than there are."

Female Aasimar( Agathion-Blooded) Hunter 3 HP:25/28 F +6, R+5, W +3 | AC19 T12 FF17 | Initiative +2, Perception +7, Senses: Darkvision

"There is power in the ability to make you enemies think you have more then them." Autumn said with a slight smirk as she gave Frostbite a soft scratch behind her ear. "It would also mean that the bandit would have to split themselves to come after all of us." She explained.

She nodded at the ruse of greater numbers - thinking it had cunning merit.

"Aye, let us make them believe we outnumber them and we can come at them from our respective positions. As Autumn has said, it will also make it harder for them to chase all of us."

Discreetly to Pyros, she briefly added,

Elven to Pyros:
"I did not mean for my words to be harsh. I wanted you to know I was not going against your initial plan, but attempting to accommodate the group."

"I do have one other option besides my borrowed bow." Sounding slightly unsure she pulls out a small vial. "In seconds I can have this activated and it is similar to alchemist fire but with a little more of a kick. But it is fire and that can be dangerous."

In time, the meal is finished. The bottle of wine finished off. Oleg and Svetlana share the duties of cleaning up the dishes, and leftovers. Oleg builds the fire up again.
"Wood's over there.' He gestures toward the pile. "We're off to bed. it wouldn't do to oversleep tomorrow. You can go to sleep in the bunkhouse whenever you're ready."
Svetlana comes to the door of the main hall. "Have a good night, and pleasant sleep."

Svetlana and Oleg head inside, presumably to bed, leaving you all out 'round the fire, to discuss plans or to head off to bed when ready.

You can continue to discuss plans as long as needed. Just let me know when you are ready to move the clock forward to morning, and the bandits arrival.

Makes sense most people do not like explosives. Frowning and looking down before the talk of watches begins again. Not bothering to look up while she offers her opinion. "I am way better during the day but the first watch is the one I would prefer if I get a say. I am normally up late anyways."

"Very well we shall split us up into two four hour shifts. Pyros and Taenweth can take the first shift, Herger and myself shall take the next shift. Regina you can go ahead and sit this one out." Autumn said with a shrug. "That would allow ones with the ability to see in the dark is with both groups and still get some sleep. Does everyone accept this grouping?" She asked as she crossed her arms.

The first day of the new month dawns, chilly, and damp. A light mist hangs in the air, and the ground is damp with morning dew.
If the bandits were expected early, they disappoint. The sun's feeble warmth burns the mist away, exposing a lightly clouded sky.

Finally, about 9:00 AM, the clopping of hooves and the creak of saddle leather can be heard approaching from the south. The column winds around the stockade on the western side, then rides in through the gate.
There are four mounted men. the one in the lead wears a green hood that shadows his face and long green cloak. He holds a longbow loosely in his left hand.
The others also have longbows with them and wear leather armor, as well as a motley assortment of clothing and ratty furs to stave off the cold. They appear to be a ragtag band at best.

As well as being mounted on horses the bandits have a pair of pack horses in tow.

They ride right up to the main hall and the leader speaks to Oleg, who has stepped out to meet them. "It's tax time again, Oleg. I hope you've got a good load for us."

One of the bandits, a particularly loutish fellow, with missing teeth and patchy beard, demands; Where's that wify o' yern. You tell her to put on somthin' purty and come on out here." The fellow leers at Oleg.

The bandits are surprised, so everyone can take an action in the surprise round.

Also if you want to finish out any remaining IC conversations from the previous evening, you should do so. Just label it as 'last night' so we know. :)

I've placed the bandits and their horses on the map.

The prior night

Bristling at the idea but not wanting to make anymore waves than she already has. In a more hollow tone than she usually uses, "That sounds fine." Rising as she speak Regina turns and stalks off to her bed. I will just have to show them that I am can be useful!

Morning

Rising early so she has time for a quick breakfast and time to prepare two healing droughts, though she desperately hopes they will not need to be used. Spending her time preparing a concoction for herself as well.Well before the time for the bandits to arrive Regina silently moves outside and takes her place over the gate. Once she hears the bandits coming down the road she quickly drinks the vial and lies in wait as she feels the mutagen settle in her veins. Skin thickens and recklessness eases into her mind.

Grinning to herself as the bandits move in though the gate. Not a pretty group.Once the bandits had fully moved in Regina rises and takes aim at the man who is tending to the pack horses she throws a small red vial.

Bomb+mutagen: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 This hits his touch ac and the splash looks like it misses the horses

Rising in the morning, Pyros quickly hides in the shed, the door open just enough to see out. When the bandits accost Oleg, he steps from the shed, drawn steel in his left hand, and walks calmly toward the bandits. Before he can say anything, Regina's bomb detonates. Pyros flinches a bit, but keeps walking Well, there goes any chance of a bloodless victory. But this can still be quick. He looks the lead bandit in the eye, and speaks. "There's more where that came from. We have you surrounded, but you can end this quickly. Surrender, or die by fire or by sword. Your days of banditry are at an end." he assumes a fighting stance, sword low in front of him, empty right hand held up beside his head.

Memories of her broken home flashed through Autumn's mind. Her heart ached and her stomach twisted. She wasn't even sure she wanted them to surrender... She drew back her bow and took aim at one of the three men. Mainly the one who had spoken about Oleg's wife.

Ready and attack, if they do not surrender Autumn will take the shot.

Surprise Round

In the morning, Taenweth made sure Oleg's cart was in the right place and took position behind it, rapier in hand, eyes and ears on the ready for the approaching bandit party.

Soon after their arrival, Regina had promptly given her own position away with lobbing the bomb at the back rider. Brave, but too soon, little one, she mused silently. However, taking advantage of the surprise of the detonating bomb and Pyros' subsequent address, she quietly but quickly pushed the cart the short distance across to the entrance to the fort (across the place of the broken gate, being careful of the remnants of the bomb), as a way to block any escape route and using the cart itself as cover for their arrows if they saw her and chose to fire at her.

Stealth to push the cart unnoticed from corner of bunkhouse to the place before the gates: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Move action: To push cart across 10ft to the entrance of fort.
