Sarenth
"Interesting. Sounds like a useful spell to know. Perhaps you'd be interested in swapping for my spell. Conjures armor made of magical force. A better defence than leather, and doesn't obstruct casting the way leather can."
lexibean
I assume you guys spend some time discussing and fishing around in the water.
As a group, they find: three heavy maces, that leather armor, a buckler, a handaxe that looks quite shiny and nice, a vial of clear water, two damp tindertwigs, and a lumpy green bag. And about 22 gold altogether.
Looks like the bilges were a goldmine! They don't have a lot of time to divvy it or decide what to do with it before Scourge sticks his head down in there and hollers, "Oy! What are you slackers doing?"
Sarenth
Sarenth reaches down and holds up the one intact rat body. "Sir, we found a nest of these buggers. We were going through the place, making sure that none had been hiding or were trying to escape."
Reck'Avok
Reck jeers at Scourge as he interrupts the looting. He holds up the shattered bodies of his four kills and smirks.
"Next time you don't 'ave t' bother sending us all. I can 'andle some rats myself. If your crew soils their smallclothes every time a rat looks at 'em, I'd 'ate t' see 'ow they quiver when attacking a prize! Maybe you should post me down 'ere every day, so your milk-drinkers don't 'ave t' fret and worry."
If this fool allows me to own the bilge, we can use it as a secure location for things we don't want prying eyes seeing
Isabella Valencia
Isabella hands the knives back to Durvin. "Looks like these ain't much good for now. Some interesting plunder to stash, though. Always good to have some weapons on hand. But why in blazes would all this be down here? And what in hellfire is in that bag??"
Sarenth
Sarenth also hands his borrowed blade back to Durvin. "Thanks for the loan, my friend. It came in handy." Sarenth turns, and begins making a quick inspection of the gear they have recovered.
Anything in this lot magical? How about just interesting? And why a vial of water, and what is that bag?
Detect Magic
Knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Appraise: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Sarenth
"Be careful with the bag. Don't let it open up. It's full of a goo that hardens like strong glue when it hits air. Great for throwing at people in combat. Makes 'em stick in place. Friend Brillup. Would you say this water is of the blessed persuasion?" Sarenth hands the vial to Brillup, then hefts the handaxe. "Wish I was any good with one of these. It's a beauty."
Noro_Kasuri
well shquishing rats wash fun, I'll be heading topshide to finish my work, I'll try ta keep pugfashe from bothering you while you decishide what to do with the shtuff
Noro heads back up to finsh her day's work. keeping Plugg away from the hatch as best she can.
Durvin Tamish
Before Durvin heads back to help Ambrose prepare the poor pig that he had to blood for the day's meal, he offers a suggestion to the others. "I would put some of that stuff in your lockers. If you walk up top with it, they may think you stole it or something. Wait until tomorrow, and people will think you bought it from Grok."
With that said, he brings the knives back to the kitchen, where he washes them thoroughly, despite the fact that they didn't see much use. He had hoped Reck didn't make it sound as easy as it was, he was thinking about trying to come up with a whopper of a tale to go with it.
Sarenth
I think we already rolled for today's tasks.
Sarenth gathers up the items and stashes them in his locker. "I can't use most of this, but I can hold onto it for now. We can redistribute it to be useful tonight."
Sarenth returns to his duties as a runner, glad that he has found food for Skipper and excited by the prospects of the cache of items that they now have.
lexibean
I believe all that's left is Noro shopping, and Brillup looking for a FRAND - unless you want to change those actions. For now, we can move onto evening actions so everyone has something to do, and backspoiler anything from before.
Evening time, its the same old same old. Rum and food are divvied, the pig that Durvin killed goes to the captain and the crew sees neither hide nor hair of it, and the upper deck is lit up with what appears to be a party that none of the pressganged scum are invited to.
Reck'Avok
Reck claims the leather armor from the bilge and spends the evening drying it, scraping it clean, and fitting it. Disturbingly, he also takes the skulls from the rats he killed and strings a strand of rope through them, making a crude fetish which he wears about his neck.
After he finishes his labors, Reck briefly meets with Sarenth to compare spellbooks, then hits the sack for a well-earned snooze.
Noro_Kasuri
Noro tries to maintain her tough appearance to the quartermaster not wanting to loose the little rep she has already established.
Sho you heard bout that too. well,I undershtand you might have shome interesting goods and my old armor and my old reliable brassh knuckles would got shtarters. and my chew, ushed to alwaysh go into a fight with the shtuff
Noro gives her stare almost dareing her to say no.
Sarenth
Sarenth, upon finishing his duties, gathers his rum ration and dinner as per normal routine. He then moves downstairs to wait for Reck so they can compare spellbooks and see if they have anything worth swapping.
Stealth to dump rum: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Isabella Valencia
Isabella sits down to her meal, tired but uneasy at her new knowledge. This rum...much as I like it, can't shake the thought of what druggery they've dumped in it.
As she eats, she looks for an unwatched opportunity to dump the rum overboard while still pantomiming the drinking for a bit afterwards.
stealth to dump rum: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Uh oh.
Noro_Kasuri
"Thass possible," Grok eyes her back, and then smirks. "You got something to trade?"
Noro pulls a small handful of coin she won the other night and slaps it on the counter
That should cover it, right
she put about 10-15 gold on the counter
Durvin Tamish
When the evening rolls around, Durvin finds himself walking amongst the crew with his rum, and he notices that Isabella is trying to lose the rum like he mentioned. "Oh, dear, you can't just dump it out. You have to splash, slosh, and forget yourself. Get animated when you talk so lots of it spills." He decides to help her out, having to actually drink his own rum this night, but managing to show her how to work hers away discreetly.
Once everyone has eaten, and they are all settling in to their own evening entertainments, Durvin spins the tale of 'The Bilge Beast'.
"So, there we were, the dark, dank depths of the bilges. A task handed to us by the First Mate, after word had reached his ear that something in the stagnant water was eating some of the crew.....
...It stood the height of a man plus half again, and its eyes glowed with the burning red of hatred for man. The twin fangs jutting from its lower jaw were easily the size of carving knives, and the red bloody flesh of its most recent victim still hung from the bladed maw....
....Then, with a ferocity unknown to common man, Reck swung a powerful blow to the side of the creature's head, knocking it back into the mast. The resounding crack was near deafening, and the light of hatred dulled, before growing cold and lifeless like the Bilge Beast itself. The form slumped down, sliding into the muck of the still water before it suddenly vanished, like some demon wrought of another world. Could it return? No one knows. Maybe there is a dark portal to another land within the ship's very bowels. All I know is I can only sleep soundly tonight knowing Reck the Hammerfist spends his duty hours in the darkened underbelly of our floating home." Durvin congratulates himself silently. He's always stuck to singing, but he may have to work on other entertainments. Well, if Reck wanted the bilges, maybe this would help him get them. It also doesn't hurt for folks to know you are friends with one of the tough guys on board.
Stealth, to assist Isabella's ditch rum attempt1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Perform, Oratory to entertain the crew 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
lexibean
Durvin manages to help Isabella with her rum, and the crew seems entertained by his story, hooting and laughing and sloshing their rum around similarly. Neither of them think that anyone saw her with the rum, though its hard to say as a good number of the officers are at the party.
Noro_Kasuri
Noro eyes Grok snarls a bit and then gives a smirk.
I'll bet you a rum ration you won't give me my leather armor
she says with as much seriousness as she can muster
Reck is gonna have a reputation to keep up thanks to a certsin bard
Noro_Kasuri
you sheriously want to take on the Iron Maiden? Well all right then. I'll shee you tonight. And If you win You get Reck for one night!
Noro puts out her hand deal?
Noro_Kasuri
Noro gives Grok a firm handshake the grabs her chew and heads off
Reck darlin', I need a favor
Brillup the Dart
diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Brillup the Dart
Noro_Kasuri
Reck snoozes soundly in his hammock, completely unaware of the horrible things his companions are doing.
When Noro bothers him: "'Ello Noro, come t' take me up on that offer?"
As Reck goes to touch Noro she stops him. I've a favor to ashk of you firsht. she says to him smileing.
Grock an I are at odds over you, Sho we decshided to ave a drinking contesht to shee who getsh you. well, I really need to win, but If I don't I wanted to make shure you are ok with it.
Before reck can even answer
Glad you argree, thanksh reck
she gets up to go have dinner. and then find Grock
Noro_Kasuri
At recks comment Noro suddenly stops and takes a deep breath.
she then flips him an obsene jesture an continues on
Brillup the Dart
Brillup will gather with whoever he can for dinner, to recount where he feels they stand. This includes all of the PCs and Sandara if she's willing to sit with them. While doing so, he'll stealthily dump his rum ration. He doesn't mind his companions seeing it, but others he's hiding it from.
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
After the gathering, he'll track down Jack Scrimshaw to see if he's alright and strike up a conversation. Jack? Are you alright? I couldn't offer you healing before, Plugg was right there. Can I help you now?
Action: Influence Jack
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Isabella Valencia
Isabella finds herself staring out over the water after dinner, more clearheaded than the last two rum-filled nights.
A pirate's life...So far we haven't been anything but swabbies here, and the drugged rum seems rather nonsense honestly. Kinda wish father had just been honest about the whole thing, maybe I'd have been prepared for this. Haven't even seen hide nor hair of the cap'n either.
She turns to lean on the rail, scanning the ship for signs of her crewmates. Some of 'em adjusting well enough, but feels like a fair bit of discontent drifting around. Hope there's no need for a mutiny...
Glancing up and down the deck, Isabella ponders her next idea for a long moment, then strides off towards the captain's cabin. Time to make a mistake and see how it plays out.
That's right, swabbies. time to meet the captain, up close and personal.
Sarenth
Sarenth will add to Brillup's informal meeting. "So, just to clarify what resources we have available to us. We've a handful of weapons, plus a tanglefoot bag, a vial of holy water, and a couple of tindertwigs for starting fires. That, and some sort of small shield. Oh, and a small stack of gold. Friend Reck has already claimed the suit of armor that we found. Does anybody else want to grab any of the items in question, or should I hold onto them for the moment?"
Stealth to conceal words from those not involved: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 Alternately, Bluff to speak in code. Same roll and modifiers.
After the meetup, Sarenth will find Reck to compare spellbooks and see if there are spells worth swapping. Then, he'll wander off to find the Quartermaster. Time to meet this one, and see if I can get any more of my/our stuff back.
1st––feather fall, grease, keep watch, mage armor, shield, touch of the sea, unseen servant
0––acid splash, arcane mark, bleed, daze, detect magic, detect poison, disrupt undead, mage hand, mending, message, open/close, prestidigitation, read magic, resistance, touch of fatigue
I highly recommend getting Keep Watch. It's an excellent spell for us caster-types. Unfortunately, looks like you can't nab Mage Armor or Touch of the Sea.
