Hooray, happy birthday to us...
and thanks to Chillblame for running this game... any game that gets near to 2000 posts and is still going strong after a year is worth celebrating...
Sharae of the River
Yeah, sorry to see you go Valia - it's been fun gaming with you and, like the good professor says, hope you're doing stuff you want to do!!!
Ayla Noya Aiba
Thanks indeed to brother Chillblame.
Unfortunately, it is time for me to go.
This has been quite the wild ride across ten pages(!) of dungeon alien and villains mean. There is simply, no time.
Sad to see you go Valia,
but RL does have it's priorities.| Criek Prisil |
I apologize--I've been completely slammed at work this week and headed out of town for a wedding this weekend, so I'm going to continue to be pretty quiet for the next few days.
Criek Prisil
I'm really sorry for my absence, all. After a crazy week and weekend last week, my whole family spent this week down with a nasty cold that we're just emerging from. I should be back in action at this point.
Sharae of the River
Folks... I am travelling with work through until Friday night (off to France for a conference) with uncertain prospects for internet. Apologies if your cleric goes quiet for a short while!!!
GM, if you want to keep things moving along, I have no dramas with you GMPC'ing Sharae...
Ayla Noya Aiba
Like my renders, you can make them too as there is a
Daz Platinum Club sale going on and Pro Bundles are 40% off (65% if platinum)
This offer will likely last about 24 hours.
Recommend being in Platinum club to save more.I even use these as A GM tool.

Explaining my reasoning.
In the interests of moving on, I tend to take the party posts in order of receipt, so Anody greased him and Valia then leaped on him to hold him down. I have done this as a rule for most of the game. I am trying to keep a narrative going, and to tell you the truth the scene as written felt natural. Mistakes happen in a fight. Obviously he took a lot of damage, but that was good rolls.
Two cases are here. One, the gargoyle slipped first, and Valia jumped on him to grapple. (BTW, I gave Valia a +4 bonus to hit with his grapple as the target was prone. If that had not been applied he would have missed) Two, Valia grappled with him first, and went down with him when he slipped, which also meant Valia had to make a reflex roll as he was in the area of the spell. Both result in both on the ground, if valia maintains the grapple. It seems intuitively wrong to me to grapple someone while standing, if the target is prone.
Now a grapple can be broken by, the grappler releasing his target, or the target breaking the grapple (or if a third person intervenes I guess). Releasing a grapple is a free action, in the characters turn. So until his turn Valia is grappled to Gruethur.
As to prone attack penalty, i have never thought it applied to two adjacent prone creatures, especially if they are grappling.
As a tactical note, I would have thought twice about grappling a creature with four natural attacks (claw x2, bite and gore) and probably enhanced strength. Striking with a weapon seems a better option in this case. Valia took the risk, and it didn't pay off.
Tactical suggestion. Valia releases the grapple and strikes where he is. Another party member then drags him five feet. As it is forced movement (technically) no attack of opportunity can strike him. Ayla (and others) keep hitting to beast to distract him, and next turn Valia stands more safely. Some healing should also be applied. Remember, you have grenades (some as tech loot I think) and criek has his bombs, and you have to chain sword. This is the second last fight in the adventure. Don't hold back.
BTW if no one has thought about it, he dropped the javelin to attack Valia. It's just sitting there on the floor. Just saying.
Sharae of the River
Thanks for explaining your thoughts behind it... I don't totally agree that Valia is lying on the ground (which is the definition of prone) but happy to go with the GM ruling - from Valia's perspective, he was looking to buy some time for Ayla to start up the chain sword as it seems to be our best option for getting past this creature... Anyway, let's see whether fortune favours us in the next round...
Anody Gearon, Prof.
Continuing the discussion from the gameplay thread. Effectively the only thing the Gargoyle can do is attempt to escape the pin on his turn right? If he doesn't manage to escape then Valia can tie him up and Ayla can Coup De grace with the chainsword next round for a very messy goodbye.

Congratz and happy new year. The first module is done and dusted.
Time for some decisions. Do you wish to continue? If so I will go through the module and list all the loot you have found.
Your characters have leveled to five. Valia departs the party, leaving you with four characters. do you want to recruit another couple of members?
for now, roleplay a bit (assume you are still in the reactor room for now).

I'd be happy to continue! I've been a little slow on posting lately, in crunch period at work and lots of holiday travel, but I should be quicker on the draw the next few months.
I'm neutral on new recruits. Wouldn't hurt, but we seem to have a decent mix currently.
Anody Gearon, Prof.
Wahoo. First module I've ever completed. Thanks for the great game fellow players and GM. Would love to continue. We've got a pretty good mix right now I think. So don't think we need to add anyone. Mayyybe one more front liner to help Ayla since the rest of us are very very squishy? Optional I think.
Criek Prisil
Leveling in case of continuation.
hp: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Picking up Technologist feat, so Anody's not the only one who can deal with those obstacles. :) Adding Spider Climb as spell, Bombs -> 3d6.
Equipment-wise, the returning shock javelin is neat, but maybe not the most pragmatic for me. I'm happy to offer it to Ayla, or to the sale bin. I *do* want to pick up a longbow as backup ranged damage, esp as I head towards rapid shot / fast bombs in the future. We haven't really done much shopping on the timer!
Criek Prisil
And I'll echo Anody's thanks to all! This is the longest-running PbP I've been a part of, and y'all have been a pleasant group of folks to roll dice with.
Sharae of the River
It's been fun - that's for sure, thanks again GM - getting to the end of any module is worth celebrating!!! And, on New Year too... Thanks also to all of my fellow players - those who are no longer playing alongside as much as those who still are...
I must admit, I am intrigued as to where the AP will take us and as to how Sharae (and the rest of the group) will evolve so I could definitely be up for continuing...
However...
I would really like to see a bit of a quicker posting rate to keep us moving along - less so in the RP bits where Anody and Criek tend to keep things trundling along... but some of the later combats - not a criticism / just an observation - we seemed to spend a lot of time waiting for folks to make quite simple posts... and I found myself getting a little frustrated at times.
So, IMHO, recruiting probably is a good idea - more to get up to a higher critical mass whereby the GM isn't penalising players too much for delaying chracters who haven't posted... I hope that makes sense / isn't just me!!! And, if we were recruiting, a front liner(s) (to replicate what we lost with Valia - and to a lesser extent - Ardash) would be a good idea... FWIW, I doubt getting someone on board an established Iron Gods game would be too hard...
chillblame
One for recruiting, one neutral, one against. One more vote.
Well I'm for continuing as well. As for recruiting, i could go either way. We do have a good group, though with valia gone you do lack a front line combatant, though ayla does that role rather well. Especially with the chain sword. If wanted, I have a friend or two who could put in characters. But i will be guided by the parties wishes.
Sharae@ I agree, the pace was spotty, again not due to anyone in particular, and I sinned in that regard as well. So we will go to a post rate of at least one a day, with notification if there is any problems. I will gmpc as needed. On that note make sure your characters are updated.
Criek Prisil
I'm on board with that plan, and happy with Sharae's thoughts on recruiting. Do you have folks in mind, or maybe we can reach out to the remnants of the lost city game?
Happy 2016 to all!
Anody Gearon, Prof.
Is it possible to clear out the rest of the facility to get some extra loot? Doesn't have to be exhaustive but Anody would definitely would like to explore before the next leg of the adventure.
Criek Prisil
I'm not opposed to a montage of clearing remaining areas, though genni may need to get the security cams back up and send shutdown codes to dangerous bots before Criek will be happy with the idea.
Sharae of the River
I'm with Criek, if the GM is okay with it, we should simply have a summary of what ekse is found - otherwise we might lose a month to clearing out the level without advancing the story much...
...currently working on levelling, nearly 100% sure I'm going with another level of cleric but being restricted to a starknife (or a basic weapon) is starting to drag somewhat!!!
