Male Human

The air elemental remains in place, sucking up smoke fouled air.

Jacques moves stealthily along the west wall to square I-16. He can see through the gloom down towards the area labelled smelter on the map and sees at least ten more smoky figures through the haze. They're butchering deer and roasting the meat on a huge grill that was once an ore smelter. The bugbears carrying the litter of objects walked down the curving north tunnel and is now about 50' down the tunnel, around area U7.

Thaddeus completes his action as described. He sees the same thing.

Belric completes his action as well.

Agathon moves as described. He sees that some of the gloomy figures in the smoke looked at his direction, but it is possible they may not have recognized him as an enemy, since the smoky air makes it hard to distinguihs much detail at a distance.

It appears the vent tunnels once used for the smelter have been blocked off with debris and canvas tarps.

Male Human Ranger 9

Seeing the bugbears turn and look just before he and Belric step past the corner out of their view, he will whisper to his Dwarvish friend, “Let’s have at them first…”

As he is saying this, he will reverse his course, turn the corner and head toward the ten or so figures he saw tending the food and fire at the ‘smelter’…

Since I have no idea where the hard to see foe are due to the flow of smoke toward the Air Elemental, I have no idea if they are within range of a single move action. Thus the following two possibilities:

IF Agathon can hit one this round:

Agathon moves with deliberation around the corner toward the cooking area and the cooks working within (taking a 30 foot MA). Gritting his teeth as he nears the moment of combat, he will squint his eyes against the smoke and try to see who and what is before him in the cooking area…

A Spot Check to get a better look at the situation and the enemies as he approaches for his attack... (1d20+4=24)

Upon arrival, with barely a sound he swings ‘Ole Blue around for a well placed hit upon the shoulder of an enemy.

A hit with the Great Sword in case he can get close enough... (1d20+9=20, 2d6+6=14)

IF Agathon can not hit one this round:

Agathon moves with deliberation around the corner toward the cooking area and the cooks working within (taking two MA’s or running if necessary to cover the distance between him and the nearest enemy… preferably one armed in some way) Gritting his teeth as he nears the moment of combat, he will squint his eyes against the smoke and try to see who and what is before him in the cooking area…

A Spot Check to get a better look at the situation and the enemies as he approaches for his attack... (1d20+4=24)
---This is just a repeat of the same roll above---

Male Human Wizard 9th

Thaddeus sees Agathon speak to Belric and start to turn around, his body tensing. He wants to attack those ten bugbears running the grill! That seems like the right thing to do - ten bugbears, lightly armed and unarmored. This is the time to attack them.

I will catch Jacques' eye, point towards the 'kitchen' area, and make the signal for attack.

Thaddeus will then take a 5' step into K-17, take a move action to advance to Q-17, and drop the rung of silence. This should effectively seal off any sound between the grill area and the outside, litter bearers near U-7, and the rooms at the top of the map. unless there is another route for sound to travel that we can't see

A word about Thaddeus' move action: He is going to move like someone important, someone who belongs here. No attempt at stealth at all and no weapons pointed at anybody. I'm hoping that between this being the 'B' team hard at work, secure in their well-guarded and carefully hidden cave, and obscured by the smoke, they will take little notice of me - or assume that I am someone important and therefore not to be interfered with. This will also serve to draw their eyes away from the other guys, who are advancing along the walls in the shadows.

I assume this is a bluff check: Bluff check in the bugbear mines. (1d20+5=20).

...and if it fails, the mage armor spell is still in effect...

Male Human Monk

Jaques catches Thaddeus's affirmative nod, and moves in conjunction with Agathon, and Belric, but not with their "group". He wants to remain as un-noticed as possible, seeking to attack a lone individual that appears either important or one with a missile weapon. Want to make sure no one can launch something at Thaddeus, or get an angle on Agathons rear... When possible, he'll attack with a flurry of blows.
1d20+7=14, 1d20+7=23, 1d6+1=3, 1d5+1=6

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

Nodding to Agathon's suggestion Belric holds his cross bow casual like, move up to a good spot, pick the farthest bugbear who is cooking/butchering. Moradin aye know ye dinna care for dese weapons of distance, but aye pray ye give me keen eyes ta smite dese foul gobbers

He looks to make sure the others are ready and takes aim and fires 1d20+5=7, 1d8=5 by yer hairy arse me lord and life, ye really dinna like stick throwers! At least dat deer carcas be dead fer sure

The above is if suprise is achieved, if not here is his initiative 1d20+2=18

Agathon moves to S15, Belric moves to P15 but does not yet have a clear target for his shot and decides to not blow the party's advantage of possible surprise by firing a shot semi-blindly into the shadows of smoke.

Jacques, not moving with the 'group, moves to Q19. Thaddeus moves to K17 and drops his rung. No need to make a Bluff roll, he is pretty sure no one can see him through the smoke this far out.

You guys have a surprise action on the bugbears at the smelter. Agathon and Belric can see bugbears at U16, V15 and W16 but they can sense more down the hall past the smelter. Jacques can see the bugbear at U16. Thaddeus cannot see any bugbears clearly but can send area effect spells.

You have a surprise action and then you need to roll initiative. Belric can keep his 18 that he already rolled.

Male Human Ranger 9

Resisting the urge to cough in the dense smoke, Agathon sees two (and smells more) of the now familiar foe that Thaddeus had named ‘Bugbears’.

Amused that the only thought that occurs to him at the moment of attack is to wonder at this odd and very undiscriptive moniker, he will step forward (5’ step into Square U-15) and bring Ole’ Blue down upon the left shoulder of the nearest of two that he sees (that being the Bugbear in Square U-16).

A Surprise Action Hit on the Bugbear in Square U-16: (1d20+9=19, 2d6+6=15)

As he brings the heavy blade down, he will unconsciously shift his weight to his right foot and pivot slightly so as to follow through in a left arcing swing to be in a position to fight the other visible opponent (or to strike again at his current target).

His only thought during the process is, ’Where did that name Bug – Bear come from?’

Male Human Wizard 9th

Thaddeus is actually in Q17 with the rung of silence at his feet.

He will bring up his crossbow and fire at the bugbear in W16. Crossbow shot at a grilling bugbear. (1d20+6=10)

Thaddeus will then reload and take a 5' step into Q18, pivoting left so he can watch both the tunnel openings at N14 and V14.

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

Belric moves forward alongside Agathon, takes aim, fires and misses

refer to last post on the shot

Male Human Monk

Jaques moves to attack one that doesn't appear to be paying attention to him, or to interfere with one preparing spell or missile attack. He wants Belric and Agathon to be able to focus on close melee.

initiative roll, use earlier rolls for attack.
1d20+8=23

Agathon moves to U15, swinging at the bugbear in U16, who barely has time to look up in horrified surprise as he is badly, badly wounded.

He's about to yell out when Jacques moves up to T-17 and finishes him off with a swift strike.

Belric moves up to T-16 and misses his shot.

Thaddues moves as indicated after his shot misses.

Belric, Agathon and Jacques see that the smelter has been converted into a huge barbeque pit, the metal ripped out to create a huge cooking surface. The cavern that leads northeast from the smelter (not the one the other bugbears went through) is full of discarded deer carcasses, crudely butchered, many with lots of bits of meat still attached.

There are at least 10 bugbears working in front of the smelter from U16 to BB16. Now alerted to the attack, they turn to face the party, wielding axes and big butcher knives.

Initiatve order: Jacques, Thaddeus, Bugbears, Belric and Agathon.

Male Human Ranger 9

Light of Glory!” Agathon will think as he watches Jacques clobber the cook that he had just hit, dropping the ugly creature…

As the weight of Ole’ Blue brings the weapon flashing down, up, and around in its follow-through to bring to bear on the next target, he will offer the monk a lopsided grin and his best “Thanks!” expression as he continues the swing taking a step up to the next foe…

A hit with Ole' Blue on the nearest Bugbear: (1d20+9=13, 2d6+6=16)

Agathon will move (either by using a 5 foot step or a MA) so as to place him next to at least one more opponent… Of course, since Agathon is going last, that might not be an issue as they might swarm around me on their own (either way, I am positioning Agathon to make a Cleave attack in case he kills this guy…)

Male Human Wizard 9th

Hmmm...quite a lot of them. If Agathon gets overeager he'll get surrounded. Maybe I can create some panic in their rear...and cut off their retreat at the same time? Don't want them running for help, although I'm sure they're already raising the alarm. That nook over there looks like it might be out of range of the silence spell...

Thaddeus will take a move action to move to T-24. 21' away from the rung of silence in Q-17.

Sound crashes over him, the shouts of the bugbears, the grunts of Agathon, the clank of metal. Able to hear his own voice, Thaddeus can now cast spells without risk of failure. The presence of so much fire makes casting his next spell a simple matter: Thaddeus casts flaming sphere targeted at BB16. If the attack goes through, the damage is Flaming sphere in BB16 (2d6=10)

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

Seeing that his missile fire is mostly ineffective, Belric will drop it sling his shield and move to keep Agathon or Jaques from being surrounded and flanked while drawing his waraxe.

Male Human Monk

The last time I was back to back with Agathon in close melee, it didn't turn out so well. How in blazes do I end up on the front line with these guys? Jaques stays close to Agathon, and unleashes a flurry of blows on whatever bugbear gets close to them.

1d20+7=12, 1d20+7=25, 1d6+1=2, 1d6+1=4

Okay, if you guys don't bother to give me grid instructions as to what your characters actions are and just give general instructions, then please don't complain if you don't end up exactly where you wanted to end up. That also means I may start not using grid maps. I've actually toyed with the idea of using a dry erase board and then photographing it and emailing it with each 'my post is up' email. That might actually be easier? We may try that sometime down the road...in the mean time...

Jacques has no bugbears in melee range. He stays put, as he is just 10' from Agathon, which is 'close.' Jaques remains in square T-17.

Thaddeus moves down the ventilation tunnel to T-24 so he can cast his spell next round. That's 40' of movement so he can't cast his spell this round. He does notice that the smelter vents next to him are metal tubes and are cooler than the smelter, indicating that smoke is probably not going through them right now. (as if the smoke in the tunnel wasn't a big enough clue). You see no bugbears.

The bugbears flee en masse. Bugbear B-2 is the only one in melee range of anyone, that being Agathon, but he uses the withdraw action to move down the tunnel. As they run, they scream in goblin "attackers!" There's a definitive sound of swords being unsheathed from the large room east of the smelter.

Belric moves to T-16 and draws his weapons.

Male Human Monk

"Um, that went well. They've run off, and we've captured their...um, kitchen?" They outnumbered us by more than two to one, yet they fled, our attack must have truly surprised them. I wonder if there is a way to capitalize on that fear, and make them believe our numbers are much larger? Jaques moves into the shadows around the mouth of the tunnel the bugbears ran down hoping to remain concealed, pending his surprise flank attack on their anticipated counter attack, which would come up the tunnel. Might as well start moving this way in case the others want to pursue them.

Male Human Ranger 9

Having apparently spent the last six seconds standing still with his mouth agape as the Bugbears fled before him unable to act at all in his wonder (one supposes), Agathon will shake his head violently and finally react to the drawing of swords from the room ahead east of the smelter/grill area…

Here are the detailed contingencies for this round for Agathon…

Contingency one:

In the event that they do not immediately charge right up to us into melee combat...

Ignoring the fleeing cooks, Agathon will move forward toward the eastern room and the sounds of the swords being drawn till he is just shy of the end of the smelter turned grill… Thinking to himself, “Hmmm, they are not charging forth… I must be cautious in case they are readying archery for my appearance around this grill-pit of theirs…

As Agathon begins this round in Square U-15, he will do a MA of 25 feet to Square Z15. This will leave him about 5 feet from the corner and possibly out of sight of archers waiting for him should there be any. If there is an enemy in melee range there, he will attempt to hit them: If not, he will wait for Belric to catch up…

A hit with the Great Sword in case Agathon can do so this round: (1d20+9=13, 2d6+6=13)

Contingency two:

Due to Agathon moving last in the initiative order, he might not get to move the entire 30 feet (or at all if the Bugbears charge forth and come to him)… If either of the those occur, then he will do the following:

Ignoring the fleeing cooks, Agathon will move forward toward the eastern room and the sounds of the swords being drawn until he is faced with an enemy at which point he will plant his feet bracing to bring the heavy sword up against that foe.

As Agathon begins this round in Square U-15, and will move as far east along the #15 line of Squares as he can until the 25 feet is travelled or he can hit an enemy.

A hit with the Great Sword in case Agathon can do so this round: (1d20+9=13, 2d6+6=13) This is just a copy of the above roll…

CORRECTING POST:

Agathon and Jacques took care of a bugbear picket. In the smoke ahead, you see about ten bugbears working on the smelter smoking deer meat.

They see you, but the initiative order (RE ROLLED) is:

Agathon
Jacques
Thaddeus
Belric
Bugbears

Agathon is in R15
Belric is in R16
Jacques is in R17
Thaddeus is in R18

Male Human Ranger 9

As agreed upon by the DM and other players, my last post is null and void. This post replaces it…

Contingency One: (if there is an opponent for him to hit after 20 feet of movement):

Coughing a little from the smoke and noting its silence due to Belric’s continuing spell, Agathon will grit his teeth and advance toward the Bugbears.

Noting their cleavers and cooking utensils, he will smile grimly at the closest cook. “Don’t get excited, boy! Stay with Brother Belric!” He will think as he plods forward into the gap between the smelter structure and the wall.

Game Mechanics Note: Agathon uses his first MA to advance 20 feet forward from Square R-15 to Square V-15 . If there is a Bugbear in an adjacent square, he will hit it with his SA.

A hit with 'Ole Blue if a Bugbear is within reach of Square V-15: (1d20+9=22, 2d6+6=12)

Contingency Two:

If they move back leaving nothing in the way at all, then Agathon will continue his movement another 20 feet (so that Belric can keep up) to Square Z-15. If there are enemies in the way (but not within 20 feet of movement), Agathon will halt in Square V-15 after his first 20 feet and smack them should they move within his range…

Male Human Wizard 9th

The rung of silence last reported location was Q-17. If for whatever reason Thaddeus still has it on him, he will drop it in R-17 during the course of his movement.

Reading Agathon's intentions correctly, Thaddeus will fall in behind him, taking care to leave space for Belric to stomp up to the line. Thaddeus ends his movement in U-15, directly behind Agathon, and out of the range of the silence effect. move action

He will then cast flaming sphere targeted on a bugbear at the southern end of the grill, priority as follows:

  • BB16
  • BB17
  • AA16
  • AA17
  • any target in the BB or CC rows

Flaming sphere in BB16 (2d6=10)

Note: if I had to drop the rung in R-17, U-15 would not be outside the range of the silence effect. If that is the case, here is a roll for spell failure: Spell failure chance due to being deafened. High is good for me. (1d100=63)

Male Human Monk

Jaques moves parallel to Agathon, whatever contingency, staying in row 17 , but level with Agathon to maintain the line. He will attack any bugbear that comes within melee range with a flurry of blows attack Use last roll data Can't let them flank us.

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

Belric moves to Agathon's side which ever is open with axe ready, or spell if needed.

Agathon advances into the cooking smoke and strikes a bugbear, severely wounding him. He sees about ten more working on the converted smelter turned bbq. 15' move to U-15

Jacques moves to square U-16 and misses.

Thaddeus moves to T-15 and hits the bugbear in BB-16 with a flaming sphere. The bugbear manages to avoid some of the damage.

Belric moves to U-14.

The bugbears run full tilt through the smoke down the cavern. You lose sight of them, but hear yelling "attackers" and the sound of weapons being drawn from the east.

Check your map coordinates. Row U is the first row that contains the dashed line of the smelter.

Male Human Ranger 9

Agathon does a quick ‘double take’ when he sees Jacques step up beside him to try to smack the bugbears… He will flash him his very best “What are you doing?” look …

As the Bugbears flee (with what I am assuming was a “Withdraw” action since there was no mention of an AoO missed or otherwise…), Agathon will continue his movement forward into the smoke filled hall formed by the walls of the cavern and the metal sides of the huge cooking pit they have made in here…

Contingency One (Unimpaired forward movement): Assuming that Jacques will do as he requests, Agathon will diagonal step right into Square V-16 and advance to Square Y-16 this is 20 feet of movement (if no enemy steps up to interrupt this movement, of course). So, Agathon and Belric will have expended only 1 MA and can strike should someone present themselves.

Ready for anything, Agathon will keep a pace that will allow Brother Belric to catch up and be even with him. Shrugging in Thaddeus’ direction, he will say to the little guy, “Guard Thaddeus, there is knife and axe work to be done ahead!”

[b]Contingency two (An enemy politely steps up to be cut down…):

Agathon presses forward until emerging from the smoke another foe runs up to him. Stutter stepping a bit to attempt to keep his new target off balance and unsure as to the direction from which the stroke will come, he will bring Ole’ Blue up and left:

A hit with the great sword if I have a target in range this round: (1d20+9=18, 2d6+6=13)

Male Human Wizard 9th

Thaddeus frowns inwardly. What in Hades is Jacques doing? He knew Belric was supposed to be on the line next to Agathon. Jacques is a sneaker and a flanker, not a line fighter!

Through the message spell: "I am moving up behind Agathon. Jacques please watch our rear and leave space for Belric to get on the line."

Thaddeus will move up to X-16 (directly behind Agathon). If his movement is blocked somehow, he will stay in the -16 column so Belric can get by.

After advancing, if he can see an enemy within 30', he will mentally direct the flaming sphere to attack it. Possible flaming sphere damage. (2d6=9) If no enemies are in evidence, Thaddeus will instead direct the flaming sphere to move to GG-15.

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

Belric moves to Y-15 next to Agathon, "Dese gobbers hae da mining skill o ... well gobbers!" Belric unable to come with anything dumber than a gobber, just shrugs, coughs a little and peers through the smoke.

"So where did da hairy cowards flee ta" Belric asks aloud "Me ax be getting thirsty"

Male Human Monk

Jaques attacks as best he can. If there's still a bugbear in front of him, Jaques continues to fight it, if not, then he will fall back to stand in the square next to Thaddeus, and will fish out his sling to join Thaddeus in missile fire until targets come within melee range of him. At that point he would drop the sling, and go hand to hand with them, to keep them off Thaddeus. He attacks any available bugbear within melee range. 1d20+7=22, 1d20+7=20, 1d6+1=6, 1d6+1=3
go for the eyes, go for the throat, I've killed these things before.

Jacques spots 4 bugbears through the smoke. They are about 35 to 40 feet away (red squares on map). They are armored in metal armor. Two in the back have longbows readied and two in the front have battleaxes in hand and are advancing in your direction. Jacques deploys his sling and the bullet bounces off the forearm of bugbear #1. Jacques then takes a 5' step.

Thaddeus steps through to come within 30' of the bugbears, which he spotted as Jacques fired a sling bullet at the enemy. He directs the flaming sphere at bugbear #1, singing it and causing some burns.

The bugbears barely spotted the party this round and cannot yet act, but will go next round. They moved into place this round. They are definitely much tougher looking than the cooks that are not in view any longer.

Belric moves up to attack, engaging bugbear #2. His ax was hungry. CRITICAL HIT! Belric decapitates the bugbear with a mighty stroke. Bugbear #2 no longer appears on the map, since Belric has killed it before the scene is captured.

Agathon also moves up to engage, this time bugbear #1. Already singed and slightly wounded from a sling bullet, Agathon's attack cuts through the bugbear's chainmail, severely wounding the creature, which is still up.

A bugbear wearing leather armor and carrying a staff (SH on map) comes into view at the end of the round. He casts a spell and Belric is hit by two magical bolts for a total of 8 points of damage.

Male Human Wizard 9th

I think I like the new map format better.

Spell user up ahead! Do I help Agathon and Belric get through the guards or start working on the spellcaster now? Is this the one who summoned and bound the air elemental? There is a very real danger that he could hit us with a lightening bolt since we're all lined up! I think Belric and Agathon can handle three bugbears, so my job is to keep my counterpart busy until Agathon can relieve him of his head...

If Thaddeus can see the spellcaster:

Spoiler:
Thaddeus will use a move action to take what cover he can behind the corner to his left, while still looking down the hall to guide the flaming sphere.

If Thaddeus cannot see the spellcaster:

Spoiler:
Thaddeus will move forward (move action) until he can see the enemy spell user, then flatten himself along the wall to his left side.

Targeting priority for the flaming sphere (this is round 3 of 4)

  • the enemy spellcaster if it will reach (30' movement)
  • a wounded bugbear
  • a bugbear that Belric will be fighting

Gritting his teeth, Thaddeus draws on the grill fire to strengthen the flaming sphere. The edge of the fire dims as the magical effect intensifies. Flaming sphere - 3rd attack (2d6=12) boxcars baby!

Male Human Ranger 9

Stepping forward so as to be adjacent to two foes at once, Agathon will lean into his swing so as to bring the great blade up, through one opponent and directly into his next target. His eyes are fully open despite the particulates in the air as he forgets his discomfort and pours himself into his swing…

A hit on the Bugbear: (1d20+9=26, 2d6+6=12)

With a grunt and a powerful thrust of his legs, he will force the blade through and out to strike again!

A cleave Attack on the next opponent: (1d20+9=11, 2d6+6=14)

As the tip of ‘Ole Blue catches on something within the body of his first victim, Agathon’s next strike is delayed just long enough for the next Bugbear bring his own weapon up to block.

“Blast! Damn rib caught my sword!” Agathon will say to himself in a voice that will carry down the hall…

Game Mechanics Note: On the map, it looks like Agathon can take a 5 foot step in such a way that will allow him to stay next to the guy he just hit last round (and hit again above, probably killing him); and hit the next guy in line with a Cleave Attack (that most likely missed).

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

Ignoring the splash of hot blood on his face and arms, Belric lets out a howl of furious joy “COME AN GET SOME MORE YE BUGGERS!”. Stepping forward to met the next Bugbear, he ducks the swing of it’s battleaxe, blocks the backswing and with a flick of his powerful wrist lodges his waraxe into his opponent's side. Caught up in the joy of fighting his enemies, he doesn't even notice that his foot sent the previous bugbears head bouncing towards the spell caster.

the swing and hit by his waraxe1d20+6=22, 1d10+3=7

if there is no opponent between him and the spell caster, Belric will charge and use the above swing

Male Human Monk

If Jaques can see the spellcaster, he will attempt a sling attack on him. If not, he will continue to target missile attacks on whoever Thaddeus is shooting at

Jaques squints as he peers through the smoke. He thinks he can make out that Agathon and Belric appear to be doing well. Belric sounds happy, they must be doing alright. He tracks where Thaddeus is looking, and launches a sling bullet at the figure he thinks Thaddeus is looking at. 1d20+7=27, 1d4+1=5 Wow that sounded like a solid hit!

aques can't spot the spellcaster, but zings his masterful sling bullet at bugbear #1, which was facing Agathon. The sling bullet catches the bugbear solidly in the head, killing him.

Thaddeus moves up, flattening himself against the wall and flames the bugbear shaman with his flaming sphere, causing him some discomfort, it seems.

Bugbear #3 steps up, dropping his longbow and drawing his battleaxe. (5' step, free action, move action, standard action) He attacks Belric, missing him.

Bugbear #4 does the same thing to Agathon. This bugbear hits, striking Agathon for 8 points of damage.

The shaman casts a spell, (green area of map) covering the tunnels in sticky webs. Belric, Jacques and Thaddeus make their reflex saves, but Agathon does not. Agathon cannot move, but can attack and defend in place. The rest can move 5' and then make another reflex save to move 5' per round.

Agathon hits Bugbear #4 for 12 pts of damage.

Male Human Ranger 9

“Arrrrgh!” Agathon will growl in pain and frustration from both the weapon strike on his chest as well as his attempt to shake off the influence of the magical webbing as it appears all around him grabbing hold of his legs in an iron grip.

Finding himself unable to move forward but still able to swing his blade, he will take note of the final position of the sticky webbing around him and will flash ‘Ole Blue to the left and down keeping the hilt high to keep it from becoming tangled along with his lower half.

A hit against the Bugbear in front of him: (1d20+9=27, 2d6+6=17)

Game Mechanics Note: If Agathon kills his guy, here is a Cleave Attack on Belric’s guy…
A Cleave Attack on the Bugbear in front of Belric if his primary target is killed this round: (1d20+9=20, 2d6+6=18)

As he can make no move this round, Agathon will shout to Thaddeus, “What is this magic!? How do we rid ourselves of it?!

Male Human Monk

Nice, he went down like a sack of turnips. Eww, that stuff looks to have put Agathon in a bit of a sticky situation. Where's that spell caster? Jaques again tries to spot the source of the magic (other than Thaddeus), to continue his missile attacks. If he can't spot him, he'll just shoot at the next target of opportunity to help the guys out.

1d20+7=20, 1d4+1=3

Male Human Wizard 9th

Thaddeus will shout explanation and encouragement to the warrior: "Agathon! You can get free of this! The strands will break, just put your back into it!"

He will then guide the flaming sphere surely and inexorably towards the bugbear spellcaster. The sphere flares a final time and vanishes, the power of the spell exhausted. Fourth flaming sphere damage (2d6=9)

The young wizard will then bring his crossbow up and sight on the enemy spellcaster, squeezing the firing trigger: Crossbow shot at the bugbear shaman (1d20+6=14, 1d8=4) If we're still under the influence of the bless spell I'd get another +1, and might actually hit him...

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

As the bugbear's axe sweeps over his head Belric charges towards the spell casting gobber and at the end of his charge he hops over a heavier thread of web and gets close enough to see the evil gleaming eyes of his foe.

Sweeping his shield high; that brings up his opponent's guard, Belric slams his axe forwward......

1d20+6=13, 1d10+3=10

AS ALL OF HIS PREVIOUS POST WAS IGNORED THIS IS AN OPEN END ROLL AS TO WHAT HE MAY HAVE DONE

Jacques strikes the bugbear #3 facing Belric with his sling bullet.

Thaddeus flaming sphere does a little damage to the shaman, but the crossbow bolt misses.

Belric is hit for 9 points of damage.

Bugbear #4 misses Agathon with his axe.

The shaman casts a spell on himself; Thaddeus and Belric recognize it as a cure wounds spell of some sort.

Belric, having wounded bugbear #3 for 7 points the round before, misses this round.

Agathon gives bugbear #4 a grievous wound, but he is still up, but barely.

Male Human Ranger 9

Acting before Thaddeus’ can answer, Agathon will think, “Blast! My legs are stuck fast!” As this runs through his mind, he replies to his enemy’s missed axe stroke with better aimed one from Ole’ Blue…

A hit on Bugbear #4 in front of Agathon: (1d20+9=28, 2d6+6=9)

With the Bugbear already wounded, he is shaking a bit and wobbles just enough to make Agathon’s blow a glancing one, causing Agathon to scowl as the big sword bounces back up in an awkward manner.

If Bugbear #4 dies with this stroke, here is a Cleave Attack on the Bugbear in front of Belric (accompanied by the following narration):

Taking advantage of the otherwise odd bounce of the sword, Agathon leans left and let's the great blade descend directly onto the slightly exposed neck of Belric's opponent!

A Cleave Attack Roll on the Bugbear in front of Belric: (1d20+9=19, 2d6+6=16)

Ha! That is more like it!" Agathon will call out feeling better about this hit than the last... "Brother Belric, are you too caught in this sticky spell?" He will ask this just before he actually looks down at the dwarf to discover that he is not, in fact as held as Agathon...

Vainly struggling in place against the web, he does not apply his full strength properly to affect the Web's hold on his legs.

As moving so as to give oneself a Strength Check versus the Web Spell takes a Full Round Action (FRA)... PH Pg 301, Agathon cannot attempt his strength check just yet. He will continue to fight in place as long as there are enemies who will step up to him… Since he only took a SA for the strike and cleave I added the above dialogue and weak incorrect struggle against the spell...

Male Human Wizard 9th

Thaddeus shouts to Agathon: "Just give it everything you've got and pull yourself out!"

He will then cast magic missile as a 5th level caster (DC10 spellcraft check (1d20+11=15)) and fire at the spell user: Magic missile as 5th level (3d4+3=11).

With his remaining move action, Thaddeus will reload his crossbow.

Male Human Monk

I really should learn how to use that spear-sling thingy. Jaques slings again at the bugbear of opportunity. That will be the one he just hit, or if it's down, the next one he can see. He'll move up a hex (or two)so long as it doesn't prevent him from getting his attack action. If I move up a bit, maybe I can see what Thaddeus is shooting at. 1d20+7=20, 1d4+1=3

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

"Aach! Ye Basterd!" Belric bellows outs from the painful blow he takes on his left shoulder. Luckiley his shield shed most of the damage, bending at his knees he pivots with a sidestep to the left and with a upswing of his waraxe he clips the ground with his mighty ax, bouncing up and away from his apponent
1d20+7=8, 1d10+3=9

Jacques sling bullet takes out severely wounded bugbear #4

Thaddeus blasts the shaman with a magic missile, causing a noticeable wound.

Bugbear #4 attacks Agathon, hitting for 7 pts of damage.

The shaman casts a spell. Both Belric and Thaddeus make their spellcraft rolls and recognize it as 'bear's endurance.'

Belric charges the shaman, having made his strength check to escape the effects of the web. However, his attack misses.

Agathon kills bugbear #3 with his attack. The only bugbear left standing at this point is the shaman.

Male Human Monk

Jaques moves up, as much as he can, and still get off a sling shot.1d20+7=24, 1d4+1=2 I hope we don't soon have their reinforcements coming up one of these other tunnels. Best keep eyes and ears alert for more of the buggers...

Male Human Ranger 9

As the Bugbear falls in front of him to make a sickening loud wet slap on the floor, Agathon will crouch a bit and plant his feet wiggling them to shoulder width to aid his heave against the strands gripping him from the waist down.

A Strength Check to get out of the Web Spell: (1d20+4=15)

Failing to break the sticky threads holding him (it will require a DC 20 Strength Check to get free of the spell...), Agathon curses as he is relentlessly pulled back into his initial position…

“Blast!” Feeling that he did not give it his best effort, he will brace for another try (…next round, of course…)

MALE DWARF CLERIC 9

"Ye think ye can dodge dis one" Belric does a little hop to gain some height and as gravity reinstates its hold on his 240 lbs of enraged dwarf and gear his ax 1d20+7=25, 1d10+3=4just barely skims the Shaman's horned headress causing more startlement then any real pain.

"Ach ye arrrre getting me angry!" Belric bellows "Stop squirming like an waskieesh eel ye cowardly cur!"

Belric after landing again, gets his feet into position for the next blow, this time thinking Ay'll hit em low dis time, maybe he canna jump ta avoid me ax

Male Human Wizard 9th

The shaman ducks his head to the left when dodging Belric's axe. There, again!

...Thaddeus sights carefully at the shaman's throat...

and...shoot!

Crossbow shot at bugbear in melee. (1d20+2=13, 1d8=8)

In a miracle of poor timing, the bolt ricochets harmlessly off Belric's axe in its upward swing at the Shaman's head, saving the shaman from getting the point.

Thaddeus grumbles mentally and reloads his crossbow, hoping for a better shot. stupid -4 penalty for firing into melee!

I scoured the notes and couldn't find why the initiative order changed, so the shaman goes last.

Jacques is unable to move up. Agathon can't free himself, Belric does minor damage and Thaddeus crossbow shot is a miss.

The shaman runs full tilt down the tunnel behind him. Belric's attack of opportunity hits for 9 points of damage, but he grunts and keeps going, trailing blood.

Male Human Wizard 9th

Assuming we're posting multi-round actions here.

Thaddeus will focus on getting himself out of the web first, moving down the hall towards where Belric is now.

Round 1 escape artist check: Escape artist check (1d20+3=7)
Round 2 escape artist check (1d20+3=4)
Round 3 escape artist check (1d20+3=19) That gets me 5'
Round 4 escape artist check (1d20+3=21) Another 10' and out!

If Agathon is still stuck in the web when Thaddeus gets out, I will either help him or stand watch while Belric helps him. Helping him out of the web would take the form of trying to aid him on his strength check, by pulling him out with a rope.

If Jacques is still stuck after getting Agathon out, help him the same way if possible.

Otherwse, reload my crossbow and stand watch while Belric does any healing or prep spells.
