You all may have noticed that I do shift the attacks around to other characters especially if someone could potentially die. That is why it is important to keep your HPs updated. In a situation like this there were enough people around that the totem could spread it's attacks out. There was no point on focusing on one or two character (Adriel and Darius).
Astrianna Sparacello |
The magnificent loot:
- 1 sealed box from the powder room (Embrianna)
- 1 Masterwork Longsword (Darius)
- Torn up chart of the Razor (Astrianna- Hoping Embrianna can use Mending on this, will ask her to later.)
- Various maps and charts (Astrianna- Working on it)
- 8 pearls (Astrianna estimated them at 100gp each, Astrianna has decided not to palm any of them.)
- 2 cutlasses (Astrianna)
- 8 daggers (Henk)
- 3 Magical Totems (Adriel)
- Pair of Scarab Hunting Knives (Dirk)
- Scale horsewhip (Dirk)
- Elven Painting (Dirk- Astrianna estimated 100gp)
- Locked box from the Sea Bear's Captain's Quarters (Dirk)
- Magical Cloak (Dirk)
- Other oddities from Captain's Quarter's, including the Seabear logbook (Dirk)
- The Undead Captain's Sword and Clothes and Belongings (Henk)
- One dashing scoundrel (Sath found him first I suppose!)
Did I miss anything?

The magnificent loot:
Did I miss anything?
The pipe, navigational instruments, and the goodly Mister Alabaster, of course...
I'm not too clear what Henk got, but David did cast Detect Magic on the gear (including what Henk was carrying, while back on our ship) - and that counts the remainder of the gear he's found - including the supposed "magical cloak" which David assumes is merely a normal cloak, but his delusions have prompted to assume otherwise on the ship.
Most of those plans were included in the Spoiler to the GM on the campaign page, but we'll see what happens next.
As for the locked chest, he has formally 2 hours until the officers meeting to study it and "Take 20" on examining it for traps and (potentially) Disable said traps or locks and open it to see what's inside (though I just keep thinking of the ending of Se7en for some reason...)
Just so you all know; David is a pretty loyal guy - he always shares what he finds with his friends.
EDIT: Breaking Bad marathon is over - bedtime for me; I have to be up for work in about five hours anyway. See you all tomorrow!
David "Dirk" Hawkins |
Tsk. You should of stabbied Henk. :)
Oh don't worry about him little lady; his days are numbered...
Besides, doctors on a ship like this have access to Castor Oil and everyone knows that you can use the beans that are grown to make Castor Oil to produce a little something called "Ricin".
To a guy like David ricin is very easy to make and very easy to use...
Just ask my buddy Heisenberg ;)
baldwin the merciful |
None of the items that Dirk picked up from the capts quarters are magically. The cloak is mundane and sadly enough even Alabaster is common a housecat.
Dirk by the time you got back to the deck Henk was long gone doing his own thing - cleaning up, meeting with the capt., and eating. By the time you see him again he doesn't have any of the capt's items on him.

Updated loot:
- 1 sealed box from the powder room (Embrianna)
- 1 Masterwork Longsword (Darius)
- Torn up chart of the Razor (Astrianna- Hoping Embrianna can use Mending on this, will ask her to later.)
- Various maps and charts (Astrianna)
- 8 pearls (Astrianna estimated them at 100gp each)
- 2 cutlasses (Astrianna)
- 8 daggers (Henk)
- 3 Magical Totems (Adriel)
- Non-magical oddities from the Captain's Quarters (Pair of Scarab Hunting Knives, Scale horsewhip, cloak, pipe, navigational instruments, logbook, etc) (Dirk)
- Elven Painting (Dirk- Astrianna estimated 100gp)
- Locked box from the Sea Bear's Captain's Quarters, contained 1200 GP, 3618 SP, 11,381 CP, 13 pearls worth 50 GP each, 7 diamonds worth 75 GP each, 1 ruby worth 125 GP (Dirk
- The Undead Captain's Sword and Clothes and Belongings (Henk)
- One dashing scoundrel, freshly washed.
- Alabaster the Cat (Dirk)
So, we need to pop the powder room lockbox, see if Embrianna can mend the Razor map, identify those totems, identify if anything on Cray was magical, and see what our shares are from the Cap'n.
Astrianna Sparacello |
It's definitely a hazard!
I don't except Astrianna to ever find her father, but the thought crossed her mind.
Astrianna Sparacello |
Updated loot #2:
- Box from powder room contained wicks, which probably seems weird to us (Embrianna)
- +1 longsword with 500gp jeweled scabbard (Darius)
- Torn up chart of the Razor (Hoping Embrianna can use Mending on this, will ask her to later.)
- Various maps and charts
- 8 pearls (100gp each)
- 2 cutlasses (Unclaimed)
- 8 daggers, one goes to Thalios
- 3 Magical Totems +1 luck against enchantment (Unclaimed)
- Non-magical oddities from the Captain's Quarters (Pair of Scarab Hunting Knives, Scale horsewhip, cloak, pipe, navigational instruments, logbook, etc)
- Elven Painting (100gp)
- Locked box from the Sea Bear's Captain's Quarters, contained 1200 GP, 3618 SP, 11,381 CP, 13 pearls worth 50 GP each, 7 diamonds worth 75 GP each, 1 ruby worth 125 GP (Dirk
- The Undead Captain's Sword +1 cutlass (unclaimed)
- +1 dagger (Sath)
- +1 studded leather armor (Astrianna)
- Amulet of natural armor +1 (Unclaimed)
Astrianna isn't going to trade in her Maheto blade yet- it means a lot to her. It will take a powerful weapon to get her to stop using it, or she will pay to have it enchanted.
If no one else claims the +1 amulet of natural armor Astri will want it, but I believe it should go to Embrianna or Adriel first.
We'll wait for the Cap'n to divide up the coinage.
Astrianna Sparacello |
I'm happy to do the math for distribution of wealth, but questions-
- Do I take into account the pearls, gems, art, or just coinage? Will the ship keep the rest of the weaponry?
- What does the Captain get?
- I think the PC officers are- Darius (Battle Buddy), Sath (Chaplain in disguise), Hawkins (Doctor)?
- NPC Officers- Henk (Quartermaster), Malta (First Mate)?
- How many non-officer crew are there? The campaign info says 20 crew, but does that count officers?
Embrianna |
I don't quite get that. The gear and weapons and stuff, I can see getting less value since they are used. But paintings? I would think that fine art should get full resale like gems. Paizo should revise that. :)
Astrianna Sparacello |
I agree Embri, unless there is some kind of stigma against used art in Golarion.
"I only purchase fresh, free-range art produced by local artists!"
Hawkins are we selling the stuff that came from the Captain's quarters? I'm going to assume yes (Baldwin said it 100gp or something), tell me if you want to keep it instead or not bother.
I'll calculate this out. Progress bar: 5% [++------------]
Astrianna Sparacello |
Is no one taking any of those totems? If not, how much are they worth Baldwin? I'd guesstimate 150 gp each?
Astrianna Sparacello |
Good point- I imagined them being palm-sized, something you could make a necklace out of.
Baldwin- Can you explain to me how the "shares" work? I imagine shares as a percentage- The ship gets 50 shares, so it gets 50% of the profit, correct? If this is applied to the rest: Captain gets 5%, 3 PC officers gets 5%, 2 NPC officers gets 2%, 20 crew gets 1% (I assume non-officer pcs are in the 20), this totals to 94%. What about the other 6%?
Astrianna Sparacello |
Nevermind. I figured it out. Shares represent the uh... share of the loot as a whole. It was overthinking it. The following is if we sell the oddities and if the totems are worth 125gp. We can change the values if those numbers change to get the correct payout.
- Ship- 2835.16gp
- Captain- 283.52gp
- PC Officers- 283.52gp
- NPC Officers- 113.41gp
- Crew- 56.70gp
Here's my Spreadsheet.
So, at this time PC officers (Adriel, Darius, Sath) get 283.52gp each, us crew (Astrianna, Embrianna, Adriel) get 56.70gp each. Subject to Baldwin's approval.
baldwin the merciful |
Was a size given for the totems? I was thinking that they were too big to just carry around easily?
They were little figurine statues. We'll say 2 inches tall 1/2 to 1 inch wide. You could thread it and have in around your neck. The encounter made it seem like they were table/nightstand top items.

Sorry. I forgot to make it viewable to those who had the link. Spreadsheet

Quick Follow-up Notes…
Feelings after the ship –
David feels both guilty and ashamed of being possessed by the ship while everyone else was unaffected. As such, he would make it clear that his friends can take their “Cut” before he does.
Still not really sure how to play things out formally, but I’m assuming that if I personally was possessed by magical insanity, even for a short while, I wouldn’t be my usual relaxed/cheerful self for a while – at least, until I had the chance to get some perspective and – as a doctor – was convinced that my “Cure” was done with and I wouldn’t suddenly relapse.
His decision to put the MW Shortsword on the table was legit. In other words, if someone else wants it, they are free to choose it. He won’t argue for any of the gear at this time. If everything has been chosen he’ll take the last cut of the loot, or at least its value in gold.
Astrianna – are you keeping track of the relative cost for Claimed Magical Gear on the spreadsheet as well? Just curious – I’m not sure how that stuff will be divided in the future is all.
FYI - the loot chart looks great! Thanks so much for that :)
Maybe the link can be added to the Campaign Page for the future?
Regarding Henk –
David doesn’t like the man, or trust him. However, his desire to assassinate the man in cold blood was largely spawned by the fact that he was feeling that Henk was a fairly insubordinate officer – and that as the possessed Captain of a ship who was afraid of mutiny, anyone that pushed issues of mutiny deserved to be “corrected”.
In the end David didn’t chose to kill the man simply because he convinced himself there would be a better “time” to do that. But though he may dislike Henk, his murderous feelings will largely go away after a day or so and he’s better “healed” of his issues.
Regarding Thalios
David is completely suspicious of the man Thalios. He finds it a bit too convenient that this man alone managed to survive a ship filled with magically opening and closing doors; blood sniffing hungry rats; multiple undead and the general dark enchantment yet is not only completely healed of the issue after nothing but clean clothes and a shower; but seems so relaxed/comfortable mentally, with no trace of any lingering mental issues, that the man is more interested in attempting to seduce his friends as opposed to offering any practical assistance on the ship.
Further; David feels that Thalios’s evasiveness about the magical gear he possesses is also very suspicious. Finally, the fact that Thalios mocked David’s spellcasting and offered him some smug smirks after the man was just liberated from the ship, given gear and safety and help doesn’t make David happy with him at all, and he’s looking forward to the chance when he can reach The Razor and leave this man behind.
Regarding the Statues –
If we kept one on us, what “Slot” would it take up?
Regarding Reference to Brady Bunch –
Well, when we got on that ship we did formally Jump the Sharks, as it were ;)
Astrianna Sparacello |
Feel free to take an item or two Dirk, I can subtract its cost from the spreadsheet. I forgot to add the masterwork shortsword, so you can keep that if you wish. If not, I'll add it to the spreadsheet.
All of the items on the spreadsheet are being sold at either the price Baldwin says they are or the "sell" value of an item, which is 50% in the case of the weapons and painting.
The statues can be made into amulets according to Baldwin, so neck, though you might be able to convince him otherwise. Attach one to your belt? Wear it as a silly hat?
Regarding Hawkin's state of mind, that all makes sense to me. Astrianna typically brushes off things that don't permanently affect her, and she was not as greatly affected as Dirk was.
Darius Rotarion |
Yeah, I'm just doing some RP. I've already decided to drop it out of character, but I felt it was good RP material so I ran with it. If it's too distracting I'll drop the conversation with Embrianna soon.

If anyone wants the gear, they get dibs. The only gear David was interested in specifically was the Amulet and the +1 dagger. However, at this time he'll be happy with nothing but the MW Shortsword, unless anyone else wants it first, in which case he'll give it to them first.
If not, he'll keep the value of the sword, I guess.

So if I keep it in my belt pouch it still aids me, but it doesn't take up a "Belt" slot? In which case, that's what David will do.

Most of what happens will simply be "In Game" nuance for a while in game. In other words, I don't think that David would bounce back so quickly after dealing the horror of the ship itself, not to mention the effect it would have on him normally. We're not talking about a simple "Charm Person" spell, this is pretty heavy to him.
However, after a few days go by he'll be his old self again.
Astrianna Sparacello |
Dirk-
The statue could take the neck slot if you tied leather to it or loop it. They can also be strapped to a belt like an ornament or buckle that slide into a leather eye hole.
So either neck OR belt slot.
Regardless, with the subtraction of one totem the shares are as follows-
- Ship- 2768.68gp
- Captain- 276.87gp
- PC Officers- 276.87gp
- NPC Officers-110.75gp
- Crew- 55.37gp
For PC Officers this is 7.65gp less and for crew 1.33 gp less.
