This is Council of Thieves AP. Westcrown, City of Twilight, once was the center of Aroden's faith, but now it symbolizes despair. By day, the city remains a vibrant center of trade; but, by night only those with a death wish venture out.

People are talking about a civil war, I suppose that is correct in a way since the Council is killing near everyone they can.

As the group nears the compound, Andrea gets more nervous, her eyes darting around and fingers twitching. Can we get inside soon? Well let's be careful..you never know when something can happen. Andrea 's fingers stroke her holy symbol, prayers on her lips as she looks for any threats.

Everyone spread out so we don't get fireballed! ;)

Before Euphemia's last post
"Seeing as you are the boss, apparently, here you are."

The hedgehog delves into Euphemia's beltpouch as the latter clicks nervously. He emerges with a mud-caked key, which he drags to the thief's hand and removes with his only usable grabbing appendage (being his snout/mouth apparatus, of course.

"You'll be needing to twist your wrist exactly 45 degrees counterclockwise, as this happens to be a finicky lock."

With that, he scrambles around Euphemia's bags and stands vigil on her shoulder.

If someone follows us, it's alright. I'll hop down from a window, behind them. Fun times.

Accepting the key, Gerard awaits directions as to which door.

Daniel heads in first, Thankyou, Guardsmen. I need to see my brother and the first sword at once, lead on with haste please.

Somewhat relieved to be within family grounds where he hoped to find semblance of a plan and hopefully avail his sins should Imodae be willing to hear him, Daniel tried hard to keep his relief from showing. To think of the stain on himself at this time would be selfish. Though he felt sullied, he would fight for the bigger picture now and trust in his faith.
There would be time to properly formalize his prayers before a cleric. Right now, Imodae was still with him and he was needed.

Orsin sighs as the question.

"More riddles. She very plainly told me that I simply need to find something that the devil wants more than my soul. But even if I could find something, I couldn't REALLY keep it or have some way of getting to it because then Gerilon could just call in his one task which I must perform while still alive. There are no traps or ambushes, unless set up by Euphemia and Frank, at the apartment and the rogue manages to get inside safely.

Daniel and his entourage are escorted into the manor house where is half-brother is holding a meeting. Present are Tobian, Talbard and his first sword. Talbard looks rustled and worn.

You hear Talbard voice, "Highly orchestrated."

"Convenient that key elements of brotherhood were out of town when the move occurred," Kajen Tilernos replies.

"From what information I've collected that was shear convenience, these moves were happening regardless." the cleric responds.

Up!

Spoiler:
Andrea is troubled as well by your frusteration. Perhaps if we find two things he wants? The first would be a lure that he uses the obligation over you to aquire, and the second is the item he would value more than your soul. Perhaps a more powerful soul like Ilnerik,Eccardian or Chammadey? That would no doubt mean capuring them 'alive'.

Andrea muses. Since Mammon has a stake on Chammadey's soul, and perhaps Eccardian's as well, giving them to him would allow him to gain an advantage over Mammon in what infernal politics they engage in and be more attractive than the soul of one who has no power in Westcrown.

Frank stiffens.
"I have been made to value my conversations with the mistress above all else. All other things are secondary, though it is quite nice to articulate clearly to you and the likes of Andrea, I suppose."

He blinks, trying not to swoon from nimble fingers.
"As for things of importance, I can tell you now that someone sunk a ship in the harbor as the part of some sort of siege. I doubt that comes as any surprise to anyone in the room."

He sniffs at the air, perhaps instinctually.
"All other things can be inferred by common sense, really. I don't need to bludgeon you verbally with the brotherly threats that Rance predictably forgot. I also don't need to fill you in advice as to how to deal with her, as odder couples than you two have existed and thrived without the existence of an amazing hedgehog."

He begins to relax fully, eyelids drooping.
"The... mistress... keeps powdered cricket in a clay vessel under the bed..."

Male Human Rogue 13 | 97/97 | AC 26/19/19 | F 8/R 16/W 7 | Init +7 | Perc +18/+22

Gerard's eyebrows rise at being called odd. He moves to get Frank some food.

The amazing talking hedgehog calls, me odd. I'm certain there were amazing hedgehogs in each odd instance! They remained unsung, their dignity not allowing them to wallow in the limelight.. Gerard chuckles.

And thank you for not bludgeoning me verbally or otherwise. I appreciate that, truly. I'll never attempt to come between you and your mistress, for the record.

"That is for the best, Gerard. Such a space is too small to manage someone like you."
The hedgehog retorts, making the literal meaning of Gerard's last sentence into the joke.

F Human Witch 13 Init+4 Hp: 104/91--- AC:20 t:15 ff:16---F8//R9//W13--Perception +16

"Now, while I'm happy you care for me, Frank, you don't need to be even passive-aggressive about my brother's lack of stereotypical behavior. On a similar note, please don't go out of your way to make Gerard uncomfortable."

Euphemia rubs a bunch of leafy vegetables in oil and tosses them into a bowl.
"I hadn't heard about the Obrigos... It's not that I don't care about the nobility's shifting here, Gerard, but I'm not active enough in the circles my family used to belong to to care."

She begins brutally bashing a pile of nuts on a board with a mallet.
"I cared more about lifting the spirits of my neighbors and friends. I wanted to make my now-deceased landlord laugh and bring relief to the melancholics that had lost so much. I spent a lot of time in the swamps, to that effect, but I still saw enough downcast eyes to validate my mission."

The nuts hardly stand a chance, though her strength is hardly greater than ordinary until her hair takes over the bashing with hammers for a few seconds.

"I really couldn't care less about the power structure here as long as good intentions are the dominant force behind them. The thieves here, however, certainly don't count as that. They've taken to having a group of wererats hunt people down, according to the whispers I've heard."

She sighs, tipping the board with nut-gravel into the bowl.
"Haven't heard anything else about the pit fiend though, have you?" she asks, pulling a garlic clove off of a hanging set. She proceeds to unhusk it. "I rather made an oath to take care of problems like that."

Male Human Rogue 13 | 97/97 | AC 26/19/19 | F 8/R 16/W 7 | Init +7 | Perc +18/+22

Gerard smiles.

I'm gonna... hedge a guess, that it's this sort of verbal gymnastics and play on words I'm missing in all the chittering. Now I'm truly jealous. But also glad she has someone so witty keeping her beautiful mind occupied.

I'm no slouch, but... more about the doing. My brain is mostly for tactics and such. It also helps my body... Hardly thinks for thinking's sake.

"There is no shame in that. Idle hands and thoughts become the playthings of hidden demagogues and despair all too easily. A brain that thinks for the sake of the action itself becomes obsessed and overstimulated...or withers."

He would smile, if he could, at the rogue's compliments to himself and his master.
"Oddly, Gerard, I think mine is still growing in a shadow of the higher consciousness spurning the development and the mistress's nurturing of it."

Which has given rise to a horrific thought. What would become of me were the mistress to die? Would I be trapped in here, a prodigious consciousness inside the body of a small creature, doomed to live out my lengthened days without a single companion? Or would all this simply fade away, and my advanced hedgehog years claim me at last? Would Pharasma see my soul as that of an animal or man?

Despite the timing, we may have gained the very thing we need to end all this, despite the losses the Brotherhood has taken. The force at the Witch's tree was routed, their Axe Wielding Commander dead and those that fled will tell of the loss. We also have the possible means to turn the twins against each other. Failing that if we might have a retainer in exchange for the items seized from the fallen, we might be able to equip and strike at the vampire, whose lair we believe we know the location of.

It's really all one room, set apart by a placed partition/half wall.
"No, I did sense your joke. However, it was one of those that causes a smirk on most lips and the most I can do is give an awkward snarl. I thought I'd save us both the humiliation of trying to figure that one out."

Did Euphemia take the necklace of fireballs? I forget.

Good points. We did fail killing the Dealer so depending on wether or not they will tolerate a second failure, we will probably be facing him again.

Of course, since then I've served well, and haven't actually regretted the decision until I found out about the mayor's pit fiend and that there is a crusade ongoing in Mendev. Dealing with the occasional imp and be'el drone is hardly the same thing."

She starts a fire in the peat and places a cauldron on a hook. She pours water and some form of powdered spice inside before dropping in a slab of raw meat.
She then rubs soap from her kit on her hands vigorously and places them into a washbasin.

"That will take a while to cook... that's what we want...," she murmurs, shifting her attention to alchemical ingredients in her bag.

She looks up from her work as she pulls out a few spindly flowers and moves them to the bashing board.

"Have you fought devils, then, Gerard? Beyond the proverbial chelish ones whom share all the characteristics of homo sapiens or homo elvaanis?"

She raises a finger.
"Homo abyssus and homo infernus do not count. Those are still more human than outsider."
Yes, Andrea.

Besides routing the forces of the Council that were in the Hagwood, we have learned of some valuable information.

Andrea rests on a chair. The first is that we have learned the location where Ilnerik, holder of the Totemrix lairs. It is a place called Walcourt and has been used as a flophouse and oprhanage in the past. Now it is a lair of shadows, monsters and the one who has kept the streets off limits at night.

The second is that there is information that can set Eccardian and Chammadey at each other's throats. There is a..bond that connects Eccardian and Chammadey. As Eccardian's power grows, so does Chammedy's soul fall further under the influence of Mammon, the one who was behind the twin's conception. if Eccardian manages to seize control of Westcrown, then Chammadey's soul is forfeit to Mammon and will be dragged down to hell.

The details of this were written down on an Infernal contract and a copy given to Sidoni Drovanage who keeps it with other incriminating documents at Walcourt. If we can aquire this and show Chammadey, we can set the twins against each other and hopefully weaken them enough so we can finish the survivor off.

Or not. Some siblings would endure much for one another. From what I have heard theirs is a close bond. They could abandon thier war altogether and seek to void the contract. It is a slim hope I fear, but it is there. Perhaps, should they be found together, the terms could be put to both? Swords at the ready of course.

No... Well, maybe. My enemy classification isn't so precise. Chump, punk, mook, caster, incorporeal, big, effin big and sometimes of late... what the fump! Not a question really or rhetorical. More of an exclamation.

But your knowledge, well frankly... No pun. It's attractive.

Gerard pulls a thin blanket around him. Protection from recent events more than the elements. Insulation. He leans back against the wall absently if not lovingly scratching Frank.

F Human Witch 13 Init+4 Hp: 104/91--- AC:20 t:15 ff:16---F8//R9//W13--Perception +16

Euphemia looks up and smiles widely at this. After years of hearing the opposite from the rare prospect, Gerard's words practically give her goosebumps. Of course, she had to think of something to say in return as she shoves burdock onto sticks from a pile of gathered skewers. She props them up against a narrow rail directly under the cauldron to slow-cook after coating them in something from a cupboard.

"Gerard, you're no fool yourself, but I suppose that you're all the more interesting because you don't care for the turbulence around you though you heartily invest in it. I suppose I'm just used to being around adrenaline junkies more interested in fame and fortune for their own sake than any purpose."

She darts back into the kitchen and grabs a few utensils, which she places into the bowl from earlier. She brings it to Gerard and places it right outside his blanket.

"You positively exude purpose and have already proved yourself as stubborn as me."

She pecks his cheek, unwilling to invest so much energy that it knocks lunch over, but still wishing to prove her point. Passion could come when no one would be around to smell it later.

"Are you cold?" she asks, looking to the blanket. The cooking fire would warm the room soon, she is sure.
"Your meal isn't heated, but it should be nutritious. Go ahead and dig in: I'll eat what is left."

She sees the friendly behavior between her familiar and love interest and quirks an eyebrow, not so much as the sentiment as the fact Gerard has the ability to expertly pet places impossible to touch (what with the spines and all).

Considering the fact that our past attempts to intimidate or negotiate with our opponents has resulted them in shrieking incoherently and impaling themselves on our blades, I think it is highly doubtful.

Besides, even if they are willing to stop this war, they would no doubt insist on a contract that frees them from any punishment their actions have inflicted on Westcrown. Think about it, they have arranged kidnappings and murders and now open warfare which is effectively a death sentence. No doubt they consider this an all or nothing push, fail and die, succeed and they are in a position to avoid reprisal.

Gerard and Euphemia are able to eventually get their rest after their playfulness subsides.

----

After listening to the stories the Lord of the house will suggest that everyone go get rest. Before that occurs Tobian will offer to perform the atonement for Daniel.

Andrea will find Foisa in the house, helping out and keeping busy.

Everyone would be asked to reconvene after they rest up.

----
It was around 11:00 am when Gerard and Euphemia made it to the apartment and when Daniel's group made it to manor. So when you were able to finally rest it would be roughly noon. So it is getting to be dusk at 8 pm once 8 hours go by...there are about 15 minutes of light remaining.

Andrea slips in behind Fiosa and kisses the tips of her ears. I'm back, my oasis. Andrea murmurs in halfling. I'll need a little help washing my back.

Andrea and Fiosa will slip off for a bath and a quiet dinner before falling asleep, Andrea slipping into a dream of soft brown shades and the scent of roses.
----

When they wake, Andrea kneels at the foot of the bed with a small glass of blessed wine and prays. Soft chants and sips of the glass help focus her thoughts as she prepares for another day of struggle.

After a small meal of porridge, sweetened with honey and fruit, Andrea goes to meet with the others.
