I was thinking the same thing. Do we have a sniper rifle? We could spook them with that from a far away distance, perhaps?
Leila Bluetistle |
We have! Though I'm not sure if we want a stampede. Well better then being stomped I guess!
Astrianna Sparacello |
Astri says just walk through. If they start being weird (sense motive or something maybe?) we can back out and try to flare.
I imagine poor Prospero is buried under a pile of work.
GM Stargin |
Alright, this is a chase scene, and you need to get away, there might be something else you can do to avoid this but I can't think of anything :). However here's the adventure's rules. The chase is going to go in phases of one minute each. The Yaruks are going to do things and each of you can do a single thing. You need 12 'successes' to get through the herd.
You can Navigate and find a good path through the herd Survival DC 17.
You can Scramble by clambering over obstacles, diving and juking around Athletics DC 18
You can Spook to scare the giant beasts and give you a little bit of space to make progress. Intimidate DC 20 As a part of this you can make a single attack on EAC 20, KAC 22, a successful hit will get you +2 on the intimidate check, doing 10 or higher damage will make that a +4.
You can Squeeze to slip between large obstacles or cross fallen trees. Acrobatics DC 19.
As well you can do the following which will NOT give you successes.
Distract with a Bluff or Intimidate check DC 14 to draw attention to yourself to save another PC this will give you -2 to AC and saves while the person you're helping will get +2 to the same.
Hide with a Stealth DC 15 to get a +2 to saves and AC.
You can also use your class abilities or something else. You'll have to make a case for what you're trying to do though and what you're trying to accomplish.
Someone will also need to make either a DC 15 Survival check or take direct control of the Mule to keep it from bolting in a random direction. For the survival check, for every 5 by which you exceed the DC the Mule will do what you wish for an extra phase. (I'll count a 29 as a 30 in case you crit it Cueta.)

Well, someone had our idea! Too bad it wasn't us!
Question, GM: Whoever is handling the robomule, is that their action for that phase?
Astrianna Sparacello |
Ooooh this is a really cool chase. Do we need 12 cumulative successes or are we each on our own track?
Also just curious: What would have happened if we used the flare? Same thing?
Leila Bluetistle |
Well on the bright side now we now we are sorta catching up to them! Pity they noticed it first ... Or maybe they left behind a rearguard?
Cueta Guiding Star |
Sorry, life doing life stuff. Post incoming.
Prospero-4 |
Yeah, fresh in the new job, I'm already assigned to a project with a deadline approaching like a herd of Yaruks on a stampede.
So I'm having quite some difficulties following the game :(
Apologies.

Indeed-e-o, Prospero. Deadlines suck!
Leila Bluetistle |
+1!

Hey all, the flooding in south texas got our neighborhood. I'm out of town but driving back now. Don't know the extent of the damage yet but I may be gone a bit.
Astrianna Sparacello |
By the way, I ran across this video a long while ago and I imagined this is the sort of stuff Astrainna's older sister would get up to.
Yesss you have her pegged. Lots of experimental music, reality-altering experiences, and other assorted weirdness.
I have a plan to introduce her after this whole pyramid people business, so she'll be making an appearance at least. ;)
Leila Bluetistle |
@sister - Mhm. Sounds like an experience;
@water - sounds painful. Let's hope it isn't so bad!
Cueta Guiding Star |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Life returning to normal. Hope to get caught up today.
Leila Bluetistle |
Noticed. So I made a real double post : )
@Cueta - Glad to hear that!

Happy Canada Day!
I'll be looking for jobs in year or two and have started looking now to see what types of Canadian library jobs get posted on the job boards. There's a pretty good amount of them.
One problem - I really, really like warm weather. British Columbia isn't too bad in the winter, right?
Leila Bluetistle |
@Trick Attack - added the whole thing in Leila's legend spoiler. The DC is 20+CR of target. I could add that in her status bar if that makes it more convenient?
@Canada Day - Have fun!

He heh. BC is very large! The Vancouver area is just a little cooler than Seattle though.
Plus do you like warm weather all the time or are you fine with four distinct seasons?
It's pushing 30 C and humid in the Toronto area where I am right now but a few months ago it was - 20C.
Come visit! Our dollar has taken a dive and probably best to come before we get blockaded or something.

I've been to Vancouver and liked it quite a bit.
In October I'm going to Montreal, which I'm pretty excited about.
I've not been to Toronto but I've heard nothing but good things. The most diverse city in north America, amazing foods, clean, etc. I would very much like to see Toronto.
3 distinct seasons is OK (I had that type of summer in the midwest, including 33c and 85% humidity summers!), but I haaaaatttteeeeeee winter. Down here on our southern border everyday from May - November is 37c, sunshine, and low humidity. Winters are usually 15-20c with a handful of days at or about 0c. It is glorious.
So, as I understand it, the winters aren't too bad in BC, right? I think Seattle is manageable (rarely freezes there). Does Vancouver have the same level of clouds and rain?
-20c is rough, especially for an extended time, but I did it in the midwest and I'm sure living in a great city like Toronto or Montreal or QC has its qualities that offset those days. How do you cope with winters?
Most of the jobs I've seen posted are coming out of Toronto or points east, so I'll probably be applying there as well as elsewhere regardless.
Oh, and hockey is the only sport I really follow, so that would be a plus as well.
Leila Bluetistle |
@Coping with winter - It's an excellent excuse for hot chocolate!
And I'm sure someone can figure out something to do with all that snow (hopefully there's snow. Winter without snow might as well not be a winter at all!)!
You can go skiing. You could see if there's any good ice and go skating. You could even build a snowman!
Hardest thing for sure is the darkness. But I'm not sure if BC is far enough to the north to get those ridiculously short winter days?
Cueta Guiding Star |
Oooh, indeed - hot chocolate is pretty great. I also like tea in the winter.
When I lived in St. Louis, which is a poor city, there was no snow removal on any residential streets, just the main throughfares. This made winters like the last one I experienced, where there was a month of temps hovering around 0c, pretty awful, because the snow would pile up and get turned to ice under the movement of cars. There was lots of shoveling of walks and of cars that would get stuck in front of my house, where there was a depression in the roadway that was like a flytrap for vehicles. Hopefully Canada does it a bit better!
Yeah, the darkness is definitely the worst part. There's something about going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark that is pretty tough.
But, there are some good things that I do miss! Hot chocolate for sure, and I love Christmas Light season. We get that down here, but it isn't quite the same as being in a dense urban environment. Also, I find winter to be a good season for self-reflection, as the warm indoors environment lends itself to it.
Ooh! And braised dishes, long-cooked in a relatively low oven. Makes the house too hot down here - I can't remember the last time I braised something.
GM Stargin |
@Astiranna there is a huge rivalry between the Zamboni Drivers and the Moose riders.
Honestly it's hard to say anything about the weather nowadays as it's crazy everywhere and you never know what you're going to get season to season but generally winters aren't too bad at all in the Vancouver area, though it is very rainy and overcast year round.
Toronto has very much four distinct seasons. Summers are usually hot and humid and interrupted by thunderstorms. Autumuns are cool and pleasant with some real spectacular leaf colours (my fave season), winters are generally cold and dry and snowy but the temperature can swing pretty wildly. Spring is just schizophrenic.
If you like winter sports then of course winter is great. I am not a fan of the outdoors though so the alternative is to hunker down and play a lot of videogames. Living in a condo avoids most of the worst parts of winter though as you don't need to worry about taking care of a driveway or sidewalks or chipping off ice from a car parked outside.
We do have ridiculously long days in summer (still light out near 10 PM) and short days in winter (pitch dark by 5).
Taking care of snow varies wildly from place to place. Montreal is colder than Toronto and not as well run honestly so roads are worse generally, on the other hand in the Greater Toronto Area there are whole fleets of trucks and plows out sprinkling road salt as soon as the forecast demands it.
If you're looking at the three big cities then Vancouver and Toronto are both very expensive now while Montreal is far more reasonably priced. On the other hand though Montreal is more run down and has less economic prospects and there's some truly weird language politics going on in the city and in the province of Quebec generally.
Congestion is bad in all three places but it is truly horrendous in Toronto. Bad enough that it materially impacts quality of life. If you manage to live close to where you work then it's not bad but otherwise it is honestly the worst in North America. If you can live and work close to downtown Toronto then you'll have a very different experience then if you're in the sprawling suburbs of the city.
Overall though I never want to live anywhere else :).

Speaking of winter darkness... My sister-in-law moved to the north of Finland - it's pretty depressing to see the weather forecast in the end of December, when it's starts saying "Sunrise .... 15th of January" :P
On the other hand, there isn's much dark during summer months. When we were visiting there last summer, I was cursing having forgotten my sunglasses when we were driving at midnight...
Down here in the south of country it's more tolerable, but still too dark during winter. Cold mainly a matter of dressing properly ;)

I will be going camping in Glacier National Park July 7th-14! You might get some posts out of me on the weekend (we'll be taking a train out to Montana) but otherwise I will be unavailable.
Please bot Astrianna as needed. I recommend screaming at stuff , taking credit for other people's accomplishments, and throwing grenades at anything that moves.
Leila Bluetistle |
Dammit how hard can it be to hit a piece of shrubbery? : (
Also - have fun on your trip Astri : )

Oh, I think the statusbar wasn't up to date. Still hurts...
Is Prospero-4 able to act now?

Sorry work is killing me these last couple of days. I hope to get caught up tonight.
