I was thinking about this over the weekend, and hadn't considered doing both!

My problem with doing both is that the authorities will be expecting us to show up to use the passes. If we're already through the gate and we're granted clearance, won't they wonder where we are? But this is a race, and every moment counts.

I'm not really sure on this one, but I'm leaning towards just going with fake passes and chasing the prize. We can smooth over any problems with the law later.

We don't know exactly how long it'll take to get the real passes from Starfinders? We have still some activities to follow up here (if we want to check up with the police), so it could be that we get the genuine passes processed while doing those.

But as such, I have no objections for getting the fake passes and leaving immediately.

Okay team, we should supply up for the adventure! We'll need ammo, food, batteries, and environmental protection. And some floodlights to attach to Leila's shoulders so she can use her trick attack?

I'll put together a shopping list of things we should buy later, unless someone beats me to it, but we should definitely get some combination Environmental (Hot)/Travel clothes for 40 credits each.

Clothes:

Environmental (10 credits):

Each environmental outfit is designed with a specific climate in
mind, and wearing such an outfit in an extreme environmental
condition it is tailored for grants a benefit as follows: cold
climates (+2 circumstance bonus to Fortitude saves against
environmental cold dangers), dust storms (reduce damage from
dust storms with windstorm-magnitude winds by 1), extreme
gravity (reduce damage from extreme gravity environments
by 1), heat climates (+2 circumstance bonus to Fortitude saves
against environmental heat dangers), radiation (+1 circumstance
bonus to saving throws against radiation effects), and zero
gravity (+2 circumstance bonus to Acrobatics or Athletics
checks to stop movement or climb along handholds in zero-g).
See Chapter 11 for more information on environmental dangers.
The benefit of an environmental outfit can be added to another
type of clothing (including a different environmental outfit) by
doubling and adding together the price of both types of clothing.

Travel (10 credits):

A travel outfit offers additional comfort and support during
overland travel. You add 2 miles per 8-hour day of overland
movement while wearing a traveling outfit. You also gain a
+1 circumstance bonus to Constitution checks to avoid taking
nonlethal damage resulting from a forced march.

Combining the two will cost 40 credits, or 160 credits total to outfit all of us. Totally worth it.

Hmm, our armor can protect us against the vacuum of space, but against hot weather it helps if we put a floppy hat and shorts on top of the armor :) (Ok, they environmental clothing will probably be some high tech coolant-cloak on top of armor, or frement stillsuits under it, etc.)

All the points of interest were described as open areas and giant obelissks so they shouldn't be too hard to notice. And the sensors and guns - not to mention the AC - might come in handy :-)

I suppose we are travelling though this aiudara gate, which might prevent some transport methods. But flying in sounds more scifi-approach than hiking... Maybe there's some in-game explanation to force us foot-slog through jungle and get eaten by giant plants :)

I'll try to figure out a shopping list this weekend. But yeah I agree Prospero, considering the fact our armor acts as a constant Endure Elements it's a little weird a floppy hat can have any effect. But I just play by the rules I'm given.

As for why we can't just fly in, I don't remember where I read this but Ukulam is a nature perserve/wildlife refuge and apparently this is taken very, very seriously by the governments of Castrovel, codified in a unilateral agreement. It's a no-fly zone, and the orbital fleets will shoot down any ships attempting to enter Ukulam, which if you ask me:

a) Sounds like it would do more harm than good to be crashing ships into the continent

b) Certainly gives you a taste for Castrovel's attitude towards poachers

c) Is definintely a thinly veiled plot device to get us to walk

In any case I'm sure it will be fun as long as we don't think about it too hard and I'm just going to roll with it.

We have 60 field rations (each is a WEEK's worth of food and water for a single person, but they taste like ass) and 40 R2E (each is a DAY's worth of food and water for a single person, but they're great!).

Prospero doesn't eat, so I propose we take along 24 field rations (8 weeks of food) and 15 R2E (5 days worth) to maintain our sanity so we're not tempted by all the brightly-colored berries.

We need some tools. Some to navigate the jungle and some to poke at the ruins.

While X Ray vision might be out of reach binoculars and maybe a small drone with a camera might be handy. In fact just another camera might be useful.

Axes, saws and/or machetes might come in handy. Just to cut our way through things.

Some sort of pack animal perhaps. They're cuddly and extra food in a pinch. Plus it can carry some extra but non essential stuff. Plus loot or, hopefully not, someone injured on the way back.

Anyone have space-handle animal?

For Bulk. Pack animals are an interesting idea and if your bulk is higher than what you guys can carry then I'd say you can hire one for you to use.

Travel. Why not just fly in?

Sci-fi does mostly make travel pointless because of high tech vehicles, but sci-fi also provides so many ways to invalidate it!

As Astrianna noted. In Ukulam's case, all the sentients of Catrovel are determined to keep Ukulam as free of technology as possible. One kidnapped professor and some Starfinders from Absalom station following a vague lead based on an ancient hack adventurer and some scribbles found on an asteroid isn't even remotely enough to convince the authorities to break that rule.

The map image I provided is pretty up to date, but this isn't a modern setting so there's no google maps or satellite GPS/communication possible from deep in the Ukulam wilds.

I'll give the full travel rules in a following post.

For charge cloak. You can use it if you wish to charge one days use of a hotelier, but as Astrianna said you won't be using it to its full potential of 4 charges per day. Your choice! You could just buy extra batteries instead.

As for hot weather clothing vs armor environmental protection. You'll have to choose one or the other.

The armor will protect you from adverse environmental effects, but it only lasts for a number of days equal to the tier of the armor (can be used in one hour increments).

Of course if you're wearing the clothing then you won't be armored.

Armor is strictly better of course, but if you take a long time to get to your destination then you might be forced to choose!

I will allow the benefit of travel clothes over armor though. I'm thinking of them as really fancy hiking boot type things.

Can you buy pack animals in SF? I've looked at the SRD but failed to find anything.

If we can buy something, I say we just do that regardless. As Leila points out, it can be used as meat in a pinch (or shelter, though I can't imagine it getting cold enough to Hoth it).


No official rules on pack animals. I can handwave something up.

A decent Survival score would be quite handy though...

Okay no combination hot/travel clothes got it! If I wanted to be anal about it we could argue that Astri's/Leila's Second Skin and Cueta's Thinplate are specifically designed to be worn under clothes, but A) I really don't care that much B) There's probably some typing bonus that can't stack

Wish I could buy Astri some Lashunta Tempweave but alas it is level 4.

So at minimum Leila and Astri will have 24 hours of extreme environmental protection, Cueta will have 48 hours, and Prospero will have 72 hours. Considering it's a jungle and not an active volcano I think we can swing that.

I just remembered we had this in the group loot, which is what the charge cloak should be:

Assuming everyone is wearing an industrial backpack, we can carry up to this amount without becoming encumbered:

Total: 27 bulk

This isn't counting the heavy armor and weapons people are carrying (All of Astri's are 1L so it doesn't make much of a difference to her), but if the GM is willing to throw us a bone we could spread out our equipment list amongst everyone and not need a pack animal!

If forced, I will divvy up all the items...

What do you all think? If the GM is okay with it and there are no major objects I'd say we're good to go.

I really don't want a pack animal, it'll just get attacked by some jungle creature and then we'll have to carry everything anyway.

Besides, we've got the capacity to carry all the stuff ourselves.
