I apologize for any delays on my part. I am off this week, so will be limited in how often I can spend time on the computer.
The next three weeks I am on a work schedule non-conducive to steady posting, so I will try to post when I can (could be as bad as once a week), but my player posts will be likely more frequent than my GM posts based on the amount of time each one takes.
Brennan Darkblade
On a related note, I will be traveling at least 3 days a week for the next 4 weeks. I should be able to post in the evenings, but please don't wait on me. Surely you've figured out by now what Brennan will do :p
Brennan Darkblade
Okay, my travel obligations for the season are over (barring any new ones), so I should be back to checking the boards and posting at least once a day. Thank you for putting up with my delays and absence.
Surubi al'Azad Khahaba
I'm travelling from today through the weekend, posts may be sparse.
Chephren
Well we need to have some of the items appraised yet. Chephren is only +0 for appraise, so I'll deffer those checks to someone else.
Brennan Darkblade
So, going by the loot list, there are 16 items that look like an appraise check would be useful for. I'll just roll them here and let the GM apply them in order to the loot.
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
As for spoils, Brennan would like to keep hold of the poison (hey, you never know) but if the consensus is to sell that is fine too.
Chephren
In general I don't have a problem with poisons, they are a tool that can help end a combat early or even provide a means to avoid a combat in some situations. With the exception of Con based poisons, having a 0 in an ability will not kill the target.
So my vote is for you to keep it, if you want it.
Chephren
If you can get an alchemist with the sticky poison discovery, then poisons can be very useful. I have had alchemists with very high Intelligence scores apply the poison and see a single dose last for 8 strikes. The compounding DCs for multiple doses stacking can be dangerous.

1d8 ⇒ 4

So, most of the items have readily discernible values. Some things have extra concern associated with them.
The golden Holy symbol is unidentified (or even attempted) for which deity it is associated with.
The heavy flail is composed of some material that you are not openly familiar with by touch or appearance.
The wedding dress, if touched, moved, shifted, maybe even breathed on wrong, will crumble to worthlessness unless it is repaired somehow.
The small sealed tube from the box has just some weird black waxy substance, known as Kohl. Some of you, especially Omen, recognize it as a type of material used to apply around the eyes as a makeup of sorts.
Lastly, there is the gold ring that has the inscription inside the band, that Surubi wanted to see about finding an owner.
Surubi al'Azad Khahaba
Kn. Religion on holy symbol: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Aardvark DM
The holy symbol is of Sarenrae
Nothing in the box with the dress can be disturbed until the dress is fixed, without risking the dress crumbling.
Aardvark DM
Gabriel casts Detect magic and determines that there are three still unidentified magic items, but can't ID magic items.
Chephren's Padded Armor
The Light Crossbow
The tube of Kohl
He asks if anyone has any way of figuring out what's up with the odd heavy flail.
Surubi al'Azad Khahaba
Surubi will try an untrained craft check to see if she can figure something out (and might as well try appraise too):
Appraise: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Craft(int): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Chephren
Chephren attempts to identify the properties and schools of magic of the three magical items with detect magic, casting guidance on himself for each attempt.
Chephren's Padded Armor
Spellcraft (properties): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26
Kn Arcana (school): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The Light Crossbow
Spellcraft (properties): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14
Kn Arcana (school): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
The tube of Kohl
Spellcraft (properties): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10
Kn Arcana (school): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Aardvark DM
Okay, Chephren identifies the armor. You already have the stats and link on your profile, but now it's official.
What all are you guys selling tonight, and what are you keeping/waiting until tomorrow?
EDIT: Was there anything else you wanted to do with any of the treasure (e.g. Suru mentioned finding the ring's owner)
Brennan Darkblade
What time is it? If it is still relatively early, sell what we can. If it looks like shops are closing down, then we'll wait for the more esoteric goods until then.
Brennan just wants to cash in, and see if there's enough to upgrade some of his own gear.
Surubi al'Azad Khahaba
1 person marked this as a favorite.
I took some time to look over and go through the loot in depth. The following are my thoughts/ideas regarding loot/loot distribution/things we might want to do with certain items. (this includes looking up proficiencies for who can use what)
1. We want to report to the Pharasmans; we might want to find out:
...a) When(if) is next lottery?
...b) Do they say anything about flying kissing heads and Chephren's predicament? (because kissing him is kinda wierd when it could have just bit him instead).
...c) Do they know anything about an Akar married to a Panhet?
...d) Do they want to buy any of the more historical objects:
"White Silk Osirian Wedding Robe" that Chephren can mend with Mending tomorrow; "Ancient Board Game"?
2. Gear we probably want to keep in some manner:
Weapons:
...a) Masterwork Longbow (already on Surubi's character sheet); she's also the only one that can use the cold iron arrows?
...b) Does Brennan or Chephren want the Light Crossbow? Otherwise, we sell it.
...c) Crossbow Bolts (10 normal, 5 cold iron) should go to Omenhotep and/or whoever takes the new light crossbow.
...d) Let's keep the "Heavy Flail of unfamiliar material" for the sake of the unfamiliar material; Chephren and Surubi can use it.
Armor:
...a) Scarab Shield and Akhentepi's Armor are already on Chephren's character sheet. If Chephren keeps Akhentepi's Armor, we sell Scale Mail +1 as no one else can wear it. If Chephren wears the Scale Mail +1, Brennan or Surubi could wear Akhentepi's Armor.
relevant armor stats:
Akhentepi's: AC +2, MaxDex +8, ACPen 0, 10lb, special MAGICS!
Scale Mail +1: AC +6, MaxDex +3, ACPen -3, 30lb.
St. Leather: AC +3, MaxDex +5, ACPen -1, 20lb. (Surubi's and Brennan's current armor)
For Brennan/Surubi, Akhentepi's armor is -10 lbs, -1 AC, ACPen 1 lower (0), and has cool magical properties (Staunching, +3 Init once per day)
Other combat gear:
...a) Do we want to keep all of it? (i.e. any items people explicitly WANT/want to NOT have?) (What is our knowledge of the legality of e.g. Black Adder Poison Kn. Local MAX 10: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5?)
...b) Who wants to carry the Tube of Kohl? (Currently listed as nobody carrying it)
Black Adder Poison x3
Potion of CLW
Potion of Darkvision x2
Potion of Lesser Restoration
Silversheen x2
Small Sealed Tube of Kohl (presently unidentified, but we know it is magical)
3a. Boring stuff we clearly(?) want to sell, total 1,072 GP:
(With coins and coin-equivalent gold ingots, total of 1,639 GP.)
Silver plate x6
Silver goblet x6
Darkwood Box
Golden Funerary Mask
Strand of Freshwater Pearls
Semi-precious Stones
Gold-and-Turquoise Scarab Pendant
Jewelry
Gold Trim
3b. Interesting stuff we might want to sell, total worth 357.5 GP (and suggestions about other things we might want to do with them):
...a) White Silk Osirian Wedding Robe (if fully repaired) 150.00 GP
This item is possibly of special significance to House Pentheru, maybe after Chephren casts Mending on it we should see if they will pay a premium for it.
...b) Golden Holy Symbol of Sarenrae 25.00 GP
If we find out from the Pharasmans that Chephren is in a pinch, maybe we can trade this to a local temple for healing worth much more than it's 25g value?
...c) Ancient Board Game 50.00 GP
...d) Self-Portrait of Ariseti Pentheru in Long Scroll Tube 80.00 GP
...e)Akar's Wedding Ring w/inscription 52.50 GP
Surubi wants to find this ring's owner's wife/spouse if possible, regardless of the gold piece reward. She will even take the "hit" against her share of loot if we find the person and there is no reward.
4. Fair share considerations:
Total from loot list (the entire game): 8.5 kGP total loot, +unknown value of Tube of Kohl.
Total loot from House Pentheru: 2.6 kGP of it, +unknown value of Tube of Kohl
Akhentepi's armor and shield, currently used by Chephren: 4.8 kGP.
cash and proceeds of sales: 2 kGP.
other combat gear: 1.7 kGP +unknown value of Tube of Kohl.
Chephren carries 400 GP of stuff: Potion of Lesser Restoration, Silversheen x2.
Brennan carries 505 GP of stuff: poison, CLW potion, darkvision potion.
Surubi wants 188 GP of stuff: mw longbow, cold-iron arrows; and
carries 300 GP of stuff: darkvision potion.
Omen has not claimed anything.
Probably some of this stuff should be counted as "party treasure", like the Potion of Lesser Restoration that will obviously(?) go to whoever needs it most and first, or the silversheen.
5. Proposals, just to start the conversation:
A. Chephren keeps Akhentepi's armor and shield, other three sort out ~900 GP each.
B. Brennan, Chephren, and Surubi get 2 kGP shares of the loot from Akhentepi's, and each of the four get ~400 GP of the loot from Pentheru's. This makes Akhentepi's armor just a bit too much for one of Brennan, Chephren, or Surubi.
C. Items that are in use (and reusable) like Akhentepi's armor, the Scarab Shield and the MW Longbow are "party loot" and will be sold with proceeds distributed once nobody wants them anymore; everything else gets split approximately evenly; things like potions etc. are "party loot" to be used on people as needed (and it doesn't matter too much who carries them).
Omenhotep, the Woken King
Wow! Great work, Surubi!
I am happy to see the wealth distributed however you all most like, as well geared meatshie I mean friends are the keys to a dainty caster's longevity =P
As far as Omen's concerned, my only real aim is eventually for him to maybe get a nice headband or some neat robes or something. He won't have as much need for coin as those of you who keep needing to boost armor and weapon enhancements to keep pace with the baddies. So however we wind up splitting things, if anyone is ever short a bit from something sweet, I'll be happy to pitch in if I'm able.
Chephren
I would prefer to keep the Akhentepi's Armor on Chephren, as I have seen the benefits of staunching a few times, and the armor is light weight which helps with a 12 str.
Aardvark DM
Please forgive me, I was on vacation last week and thought I would have more time to post than I did. This week and the following two, I am working a shift that makes it hard for me to post regularly. The games I run may suffer more for this, as it's easier to make quick posts as a player than the work I need for posts as a GM.
You guys can sell stuff tonight (except the stuff in the dress box), before the next draw tomorrow. Please give me a finalized list of what you are actually selling.
Once again, we have lost players and are down to four. Do we want another? I would not do a recruitment either way, instead asking select individual(s) via PM, likely based off the last recruitment.
Brennan Darkblade
As mentioned before, Brennan is all for selling everything not immediately useful and splitting the proceeds.
I am fine with things as they are, with 4, but if everyone else wants another to help offset the load, I am game.
Omenhotep, the Woken King
I think I'd prefer to stick with a group of 4, just for a bit at least. I feel like we're still getting the 4 of us into something like a cohesive unit but we're not quite there yet. Maybe we can loop back and see if we want a fifth once Omen and Brennan figure out how to work and adventure together? =)
Brennan Darkblade
Look mate, it's simple. You shut your cakehole until it's time to wiggle your fingers and do you magic bit. then you go back to shutting your cakehole.
If you don't like cake, then substitute pie instead.
:p
Surubi al'Azad Khahaba
I would be fine with trying for another, but I am also fine with sticking to 4.
Aardvark DM
Okay, I was attempting to resolve the loot table some, but someone was in it. Some of the information is hidden, but as soon as I unhide it anyone can see it, so I can't access it if someone else is viewing the file.
Please remember to exit the document when you are done with it.
Currently, I have you as selling the yellow highlighted items on the first day. Any other actions you wanted to take with the items (asking the church, or any other investigation beyond just appraise/detect magic/spellcraft to Identify stuff) will need to be done in character in the gameplay thread.
Aardvark DM
Okay, disregard the highlighted items. I sold what items that seemed to be resolved in regards to agreement on selling.
Also, I realized that I forgot to mark that you guys at least know the crossbow is magical, just that no one could identify it yet.
I included a line across the top that has how much coin you guys have on hand. Any time you sell stuff, I will put the totals in that line.
Chephren
Are we paying for someone else to identify the magical crossbow, or has Omenhotep tried yet?
Detect Magic - 5gp/Caster level - Straight up Spellcraft check
Identify - 10gp/Caster level - Spellcraft +10 check
Scroll of Identify - 50gp - could be used by Omenhotep to do spellcraft check
I am for option c:
Aardvark DM
I updated gameplay before the holiday, so I hope no one is waiting on me, as I'm just waiting to see what you guys are doing.
Chephren
Not sure.
With the magic crossbow are options are:
1) Chephren can attempt to identify the next morning (limited to 1 attempt/day)
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
2) to pay for the services of a caster, 1st level or higher
-- Detect Magic - 5gp/Caster level - Straight up Spellcraft check
-- Identify - 10gp/Caster level - Spellcraft +10 check
3) Sell the item as a +1 crossbow and hope there is no additional properties or greater enchantments on it.
My Selection for Loot distribution was option C.
Aardvark DM
Brennan, yes, I posted that I added a row at the top of the loot list that shows your total cash loot
That is only from the loot you could sell on the first day. I wanted to know if anyone was doing anything the first night, before we went into the second day stuff.
