Hezar let's Griff take him to the ground at which point Apollo leaps to Hezar's aid. Soon there is an adorable tussle between Apollo and Griff, giving Hezar a chance to extract himself.

Great to be home. I have to be at the church in 3 hours but I wanted to swing by and see you all. And I really wanted you and mom to meet Belina. She is...well...very important...and wonderful.

finding himself tongue tied he points to Apollo. And this monster is Apollo. I hope that he stays with me as Griff has stayed with you.

@ Hezar:
You father regards Belina for a moment, before realizing that he is staring. He smiles, then calls out behind him. Ja! Darling, Hezar has returned! And he's brought his woman with him! You hear a dish crashing as it hits the floor inside; moments later, your mother rushes out to greet you. Still beautiful, her long, grey hair and slender figure are the envy of women half her age. She hugs you, before turning her attention to Belina. Welcome, young lady! Any ... friend ... of Hezar's is always welcome here! The two of you must come in, sit, and tell us all about where you met and how! I'll bring tea! Your mother hurries off; your father shows Belina to a chair. Your lover looks scared, like she is about to be interrogated!

Matthias briefly considered making a joking demand of sacrificial victims, but the urge passed quickly. You never know if he'd take me seriously, he thought with some distaste.

"Just a room and a bath for me. Well, all right, maybe a bite as well," he said with a grin at Belgrin.

Tilver's Folly...I think that answers both questions. Remember when capable people were being sought by the church and I applied. Well they sent us there...and well you have heard about the awfulness happening there. But Belina was the one keeping morale high amongst the survivors.

She stood with us as we defended the refugees at great risk to herself. Anyhow I met her the first night when I stood watch with her, and we have been close since. In fact she is the one who found Apollo.

Where is Bacon by the way? I have not seen him yet. Hezar smiles at the scowl calling the Boar Bacon always brings to Ja's face.

To those at the Winking Warrior:

Darnell's staff prove very efficient, and rooms are available for those that desire them; a large, brutish man sits at the top of the stairs, and only guests he recognizes are allowed past and into the rooms; the establishment's guarantee of security.

Hot water and baths are available for those that desire them, and while the food can best be described as adequate, the drink is strong - not watered down at all.

The folk in the common room seem interested in minding their own business, and barely seem to register you as you gather after taking your rest and bathing.

@ Landon:
The Crane house has seen better days; though still large and imposing, the fortunes of the house seem to have mirrored those of the nobility in Tethyr. Ivy climbs uncontrolled up the sides of the stronghold, needed repairs have led to the abandonment of a whole wing. The once beautifully tended topiaries in the garden have grown wild and uncontrolled.

You knock on the grand oak doors, and a young girl - a new servant - answers the door. She seems to recognize you, however, and she curtsies deeply before leading you into the sitting room, offering you refreshment until your aunt arrives.

The sitting room is well-cared for, richly outfitted, with solid wooden furniture and comfortable chairs around the stone fireplace. The walls feature portraits of important members of the family.

Your aunt arrives after several minutes. Landon, dear, such a pleasure to see you again! I have heard, at least a bit, of the dreadful goings-on at that dusty little village. You must tell me what has transpired!

@ Hezar:
Your father smiles. When Bacon heard it was you, son, he trotted out to take a mud bath. He should be back any...

High pitched squeals fill the room as a rotund pig, covered in wet mud, trots excitedly into the room. It makes to jump up on you for a hug; but upon seeing Belina, a new target enters the porker's mind.

Oh no .... no it's alright I don't need a hug ... no no no no! But it is too late - your mothers' porcine friend bounds into Belina's lap, snorting and licking and making sure she's fully covered in mud! Belina's squeals are almost as loud and enthusiastic as the pigs!

Returning to the common room after unpacking her gear and having a bath, Janiries slips Darnell a letter, before joining the group in having a drink.

"I won't darken your home with details aunt but suffice it to say that there is trouble. What have you heard so far?" as he moves to refill his glass with water. "Have any of the noble factions responded to the rumours and news coming out of the area?"

@ Landon:
Your Aunt's eyes narrow slightly at your question; always cunning, your Aunt is well-known for choosing her words carefully, to reveal as little as possible. I had heard that a party was dispatched at the behest of the church of Helm; I did not know that you travelled with them. I've also heard that the church was not pleased with the outcome - though whom is to blame seems to vary with who is telling the story.

Your Aunt takes a sip of tea before continuing. You know what the other families are like, Landon - circling like sharks, ready to say that things would never have happened like this under the crown's rule. Some families - namely the Evards and the Baffords - seem to have been especially moved by the events in that little village, and have reached out to that Calishite girl in Myratma. The one that claims to represent the loyalists, and claims to have a blood claim upon the throne.

We, of course, are none to hasty to throw our support behind any claimant, and certainly not a foreign interloper ... but some families are less discerning. But enough politicking, Landon! Your role in the church lifts you above such ... mundane concerns, does it not?

@ Hezar:
One the laughter from Belina's plight has died down (and Belina rescued!) the mood becomes more sombre. We're fine, son, little changes save the inevitable march of seasons, aye? But you - we'd heard you were signing up with the Helmites, that you were involved in the whole Tilver's Folly kerfuffle. We were worried for you, and now we hear that the church isn't happy with how things went, either...

Hezar sighs. Fools. Some woman Anise came and found us and gave us a dressing down. Never asked about what happen, did not care to know that some cult is raising a dead God. We were beyond over matched. We were lucky that so many of us got out of there alive. Traveling with us is a man named Landon Crane, an Inquisitor and Paladin of Helm. He is a bit dark and serious, but he is a good man. He will sort it out I am sure.

That is part of the reason that I cam here first. Belina has been the target of much blame, because she is from Calimshite. Over and over she proves herself, but when people are afraid they look for the easy target. I knew that you and mom would not be that way so I brought her here first. I can not deal with the church seeing her and tossing out blame. She should be honored as a hero, not blamed.

Hezar lowers his voice. Though there is more. The only reason we survived is because we found an ancient shrine of Helm, guarded by a spirit. It protected us and told us much. Among other things to flee the beast. We need allies...armies. I think we will need your help in speaking with your contacts.

As he speaks the last bit he unconsciencly reaches over and takes Belina's hand.

Soren will partake lightly of the offered fare, drinking wine if it's available and ale if it isn't. He seems to be enjoying himself well enough, though slightly distant, occasionally wincing or grimacing, or otherwise concentrating on something unseen.

In his head, Aelovar is unleashing a tirade, berating him for resting when he performed so poorly in the past few skirmishes. He does his best to resist the blade's impetus to train.

Male Moon Elf Magus (Bladebound, Kensai) 3

Now deathly afraid of alcohol lowering his resistance to the blade's influence, he leaves the remainder of his drink untouched and eats more, hoping to counterbalance anything already in his system.

The thought of being trapped in an endless training drill until his muscles give out and he falls into a quivering heap on the floor haunts him all the way to bed, and after in his nightmares.

Your parents are silent for a moment. We'll do what we can to help, of course! Your father finally breaks the silence. That's quite the tale, son ... dangerous, to have gotten in so deep. I've not met this Anise from the church of Helm, but I met this young fellow, Aidan - he seemed quite pleasant. Maybe you've got allies there you hadn't considered!

The rest of the afternoon is pleasant; Belina decides to stay with your parents, as she had no interest in going for a scolding, and assured you that you spoke for her as well as yourself. With a kiss, she sends you out - best to regroup with your friends before going to the debriefing!

I have witnessed the evil that laid buried beneath." he pauses again and looks at his right hand still not looking her in the eye, I fear that there will be no avoiding the plots of the nobility if this nation is to survive. "Matters little to me, lad. Not sure if they'll like the cat hair on the carpets, but that's not my concern. Just be ready for some scathing remarks, if our tidings from lady Anise are any indication."

They can't ALL be as...'irritable' as Anise, can they?

Your reception at the church is less dire than expected; no-one seems alarmed or insulted by your presence, and a young acolyte escorts you to the large briefing room where you all gathered nearly a month ago to receive your initial orders. Refreshments sit out on the table, and two young serving girls stand to the sides and seem ready to assist.

About fifteen minutes after your arrival, Anise enters the room; she says nothing, but sits to the left of the head of the table, her eyes alight with anger, staring holes into each of you. She almost growls in anger when one of the serving girls approaches! Her silver plate mail is immaculately polished with everbright, and her bastard sword - in a well-worn sheathe - is rested against the table. Her short hair and stern countenance almost hide the fact that she is beautiful, if cold in manner.

A few minutes later Aidan comes into the room. While not overly handsome (especially with the scar running down and over his right eye), the young Watchknight has a friendly, approachable manner which seems all the warmer when contrasted to Anise's anger. He greets each of you, shakes your hands, and generally tries to make you feel welcome, at least as much as possible. His bronze coloured plate mail is less well tended than Anises'; he has rested his heavy shield against a leg of the table, and wears a mace (with green glowing runes on it) in a drop scabbard by his side.

I know Anise can be ... hot blooded, and I apologize if she made this seem like some sort of trial. We just want to know what happened, and from that we can prepare for future actions.

Aidan assures you that Bertram, patriarch of the Tethyrian church of Helm, will be along shortly!

Janiries says this entirely dead pan, before her eyes lock onto the refreshments.

"Now that looks good! Don't mind if I do.."

The Sun Elf rushes over, helping herself to meat and cheese and pouring herself a glass of wine.

Ah, yes, Herecuth and Ja, right? I remember them - such nice folk! You look very much like your father, Hezar, just younger and, ummm, thinner... The young cleric laughs and pats you on the back; you can hear the mechanical whirring of the gears in his artificial right arm as he does so.

Do not make light of your failures! snaps Anise, watching Janiries assault the food. If you had as much skill and daring in the field as you do quickness with your mouth, perhaps we'd not have needed to have this meeting!

Anise... begins Aidan, before he is cut off. Anise shivers with anger as she speaks. Do not attempt to mollify me, damn it! These failures have cost us much standing in the halls of power!

We didn't know the level of opposition we were sending you against - either group. admits Aidan, shaking his head sadly. I am so very sorry that both of your groups lost members - I know how difficult it can be. Anise and I were adventuring companions for several years, and Myrkul's shadow often fell upon even the stoutest friend.

Anise glares even harder at Janiries as she enjoys her snack. We lost access to the archives many years ago - the archives which could have told us about Lassathor and the quiet vigil 'gainst his return. They were destroyed by the hordes of Garagos, over a hundred years ago, when our stronghold at Guardian's Garrison was overrun. So, no, we didn't know, Janiries. Aidan answers for his fellow Watchknight, as she turns her attention to Belgrin.

The extent of the threat remains to be seen! Anise seethes. I am yet unconvinced that the threat is as dire as you make it out - and it would certainly be to your benefit to make it seem world-altering, given the extent of your failure!

We've been through this - we have no reason to doubt their reports, and certainly not those of our own honoured bretheren. Aidan quickly adds, as he sees tempers rising.

Grinning teasingly back to Anise, Janiries keeps tucking into the food on offer, tossing a few grapes up in the air and catching them in her mouth as she speaks. Sorry about no posts yesterday, I tweaked my back at work so was too full of meds to look at a screen

After keeping quiet for a bit Landon will offer as concise a report as possible, taking extra effort to describe the strange sentinel undead, the organization in the town itself and the unusual undead included in the horde along with their obvious organization.
He then goes on to describe the bunker and the inhabitants and the flight to the Stendar estate.
He makes note of the incidents at the estate involving the Shar cultists and the hags.
Landon's report is long and detailed and he makes no attempt to hide anyone's failures, especially his own, to the point that it is almost as critical as Anise's claims
"... We were just wrapping up our hunt for the hags and any other Sharists when the priestess arrived demanding we return here immediately. As you can see, despite each of our own individual failings or difficulties we've managed to save many of the survivors of Tillivers Folly and even preventing a coven from infiltrating a respectable noble house. I just hope that the good will we developed before Anise's arrival and our hurried exit. Contrary to my original scepticism regarding the use of individuals outside of the church I believe that the group here that I've had the honour of fighting beside are exactly the kind of people that are needed for this situation."

Hope your back is feeling better! This will take place just prior to Landon giving his testimony...

Pontiff Bertram finally arrives after several minutes; tall and well-built, his short brown hair is shot full of grey, and his close-cropped beard also has a touch of frost upon it. Middle-aged, he shows no signs of slowing down, and radiates an aura of power and calm.

Good afternoon, all of you. Thank you for returning to Zazesspur - I know you have endured much in answering the churches' call. Today's meeting is not about discipline - it is about gathering as much information as possible about what occurred to both teams. From your reports, we can determine how to proceed. Please, take refreshment and be seated, so we can begin.

Landon gives his report....

Bertram nods in thanks, and seems lost in thought when the Helmite bunker and Lady Andrea are brought up. Interesting ... it seems we have a foothold in this most dangerous of areas. Bertram then turns his steely gaze upon Matthias. Perhaps we could hear your report now, young Steeleye.

Male Moon Elf Magus (Bladebound, Kensai) 3

Soren sits through the back-and-forth silently, more focused on the argument in his own head.

Aelovar has much to say.

This harpy, the sword rasps, its usual mellifluous bass suddenly breaking into the sharp scratch of steel on stone, seems to think she has a lot of authority over us for someone not actually in charge here. We should see if her blade is half as sharp as her tongue.

She's concerned about our actions reflecting badly on her vaunted station. What a strange creature -- a priest who cares more what mortals think of her than her god.

And are you going to let her harrangue us like this? Won't you put her in her place?

Any swordsman knows not to waste precious energy. We are an economy of motion. Better to let the opponent flail and exhaust himself, then strike only when necessary, when his guard is down. I'd think a great and storied sword such as yourself would know that.

There is no verbal response, but the thrum of the blade against the length of his leg communicates the sword's displeasure at being mocked clearly enough.

Matthias nodded. If he was nervous at speaking to a priest of such high station, he didn't show it; he was respectful but did not falter under Bertram's eye. "Yes, High Watchknight. As you know, we were tasked to deal with the bandits that have plagued the countryside. We found that they seemed to be hitting hardest near Banshivale, and nearly caught them a few times, but they managed to escape into the hills to the north of us somehow. Almost a ride into our hunt, we were set upon in the night by about a dozen of them."

He paused, eyes flicking toward Amestri. His voice was quiet as he said, "We lost Otis and Kastian that night, and Yvonne the day after. We retreated back west, killing our pursuers when they came too near, but in the end we ran into a group of undead that finished the job. We managed to escape, and withdrew towards the Stendarr estate. Near there, we came upon the relief caravan being attacked, and dealt with those undead." He nodded at Landon. "The rest is as Landon has said. While at the estate, we dealt with three hags - Shar worshippers, it would seem. Saer, I believe that the undead threat is a greater one than the bandits, though Anise has told me they have grown more bold yet. Bold or timid, they are living, and not demi-deities."
