GM Rutseg |
Welcome everybody!
This game has plenty of RP opportunities as well as strong combat situations. I will try to move things out at good pace but still leave time for you to enjoy the research NPC and PC interaction scenes, not only jumping from encounter to encounter. If you find this tedious or boring, let me know, I will try to adapt the playing style to the group desires.
In order to see who is ready to join the game, I would like you to post the following information (you can copy paste this template):
Player name:
Character PFS #ID:
Advance pace: Slow or normal?
Day job roll:
Brief description of your character:
Thanks everybody and I hope we find some fun playing here together :)
Unnvar the Solemn |
Player name: David
Character PFS #ID: 90071-2
Advance pace: normal
Day job roll: Profession (Baker) + FJC Entrepreneur: 1d20 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 5 = 17
Brief description of your character: Unnvar is a rough and tumble half-orc who had a rough upbringing on the outskirts of an orc tribe in Belkzen. Smarter than many of his full orc superiors, he quickly learned the ways of killing and survival, always nearly embracing a more primal side he tried to hold in. When a group of scarnzi approached the tribe about securing safe passage into/out of Varisia. Unnvar was impressed by the considerable wealth they had at there disposal and saw a chance at a better life. Unnvar worked to help the scarnzi get what they wanted and proved useful to them. After continuing to help them locally, he was eventually welcomed into the family and made his way to Absalom for Pathfinder training. Nicknamed the Solemn or the Solemn One, by the family, for his constant stony demeanor, he's a man of few words but when he speaks he tends to shoot straight. He's all about getting the job done, but likes it his way, which sometimes leads to some unpredictability. He prefers intimidation and violence over diplomacy, that's the way he was raised. But will take the back seat to those doing the talking as long as it makes sense and seems to be going well, but if things start to go south, he'll use his preferred methods. A recent foray into Bonekeep saw him meet his match and his maker, luckily he had earned enough favors with the family to be restored. But now he owes a few favors. The death experience has had a profound effect on Unnvar making him more unpredictable than ever. Sometimes gun shy and other times reckless. Still he's a man who tends to find a way to get the job done.
Kleetus Doherni |
Player name: Greg Rebelo
Character PFS #ID: 43451-2
Advance pace: Normal
Day job roll: Profession:Gambler: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Brief description of your character:Kleetus is a 6'3" (1m95) greenish half-orc with soft brown hair and polished tusks jutting from his lower jaw. He is always wearing a smile, with an innocent, almost amoral look painted on it as he looks at you with wide bright eyes.
More is available on Kleetus' character page
Also, I would like to have made the following purchases before the beginning of this scenario:
-A set of +1 Mithral Full Plate
-A wand of lesser restoration with 10 charges upon it (as per 5-15's chronicle sheet)
-A headband of inspired wisdom +2
-7 flasks of Alchemist's fire
-7 flasks of oil
-50ft of twine
-A weapon cord
I would also like to sell off the following:
-A masterwork full plate armor
And finally, I would like to use 2 PP to purchase a scroll with 2 castings of See Invisibility
Alie Saechel |
Player name: Gerald
Character PFS #ID: 12445-2
Advance pace: Slow or normal? Normal
Day job roll: Perform Vocal 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Brief description of your character: Alie is sort of a stereotypical halflings. She is excited about most things, and loves his missions with the Society. Several months, she had an unfortunate run in with some xill, which has left a few scars on her. That mission was pretty much her only failure with the Society.
Archibald the Addlebrained |
Player Name: Ciaran O'Riordan
Character PFS #ID 84608-2
Advancement: Normal
Day Job Roll: Craft Alchemy + Crafters Fortune: 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 13 + 5 = 21
Brief Description Archibald is a terrible wizard. Or rather, Archibald is a wizard of (once) terrible power, turned slightly befuddled old man. Archibald's tenure in the Grand Lodges libraries became more or less permanent, as after his first assignment as a bandy-kneed youth his files were misplaced. Archibald has taken to adventuring again with a fierce reluctance, spurred into action by senility, a feud with the library's janitorial staff, and monumental library fees. He has successfully talked the ear off of three different adventuring groups, having been reassigned now for the fourth time.
Cartmanbeck's High-level pregen |
Character name: Pregen Occultist (Mavaro)
Player Name: Tyler Beck
Character PFS ID#: 44004-13
Advancement: Normal
Day Job: None (Pregen)
Description: Quick with his strange but fascinating stories, Mavaro knows much about the world but speaks little of his past. His obsession with finding esoteric relics makes him invaluable to the Pathfinder Society.
Will get his profile updated in just a few minutes!
Yvell Blakros |
Player name: Yvell Blakros
Character PFS #ID: 124236-6
Advance pace: normal
Day job roll: Know Nobility: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Brief description of your character: Tall wearing a black suit tie and top hat, Yvell doesnt look like a fighting type. However the black rapier on his side will make a fool of anyone who doesnt think he can use it. Raised in the upper classes he carries much of their traits. He has a high opinion of himself and hates being kept waiting. He has little time or use for fools no matter their birth.
Unnvar the Solemn |
Unnvar would also like to make a few purchases before leaving Magnimar (end of last adventure) or at the begin of this one.
- upgrade Cloak of Resistance +1 to +2
- Antitoxin
- Alchemist's Fire x3
- Bottled Lightning
- Thunderstone
Thanks!
Yvell Blakros |
Just a heads up to everyone. Yvell does tend to kill things very fast. I'm not trying to glory hog or anything but he has really high damage. Also depending on the BBEG he might challenge them to a duel. Hes won 3 so far in his career.
When will the gameplay thread open for dotting?
GM Rutseg |
Feel free to proceed to the gameplay thread. More questions about the mission will be available once at Palin's Cave, but I did not want to swarm you with information.
Feel free to interact between you and roleplay your trip. Also this is probably the time for any extra shopping you might want to take after listening what your mission is about.
I am a bit pressed on time this days, but I think I will be able to keep up with at least 1 post/day, or even more due to the mostly investigation kind of scenario ahead.
Kleetus Doherni |
Hey, its a cooperative game right? No worries here. Besides, you're one of the people here who will be getting OoT gold, so you deserve some form of recompense ;P
Archibald the Addlebrained |
Cartman, would you be able to make note of Mavaro's name in bold in the little details tab under your profile name? Just for us forgetful types?
1st) mage armour, magic missile (2), enlarge person (2), prot. evil, feather fall
2nd) create pit, glitterdust, stinking cloud, bull's strength (2)
3rd) heroism (2), lightning bolt, haste
4th) beast shape II (2), SM IV
Archibald is sitting on a LOT of gold while I hold out for the Fame to buy some nice metamagic rods. However, a few quality of life purchases wouldn't go astray, or scribing some spells.
Ring Of Eloquence 3,500
Scroll of Magic Circle: 375gp
Scroll of Dispel Magic (2): (2 PP)
Scribe Spells: SM IV, Stoneskin, Scrying, Charm, Confusion, Stinking Cloud, Dimensional Anchor, dispel magic (1,635)
5510gp, 2PP total
Kleetus Doherni |
Shoot, I would actually want to make that prestige scroll purchase a five cast see invisibility, not a two cast. It checks out price-wise. My mistake.
GM Rutseg |
I have shared with edit perms Palin's Cove map.
I will request you to mark there in the map any place you want to visit in order to proceed with the investigation once you finish talking with Gerhart.
Cartmanbeck's High-level pregen |
Mavaro will try to learn a bit from the locals about the young man that the group will be acting as.
Kn.local: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Kleetus Doherni |
Yes, like I was asking OOCly in the gameplay thread, are there any knowledge checks we can make the goddess Lissala or Palin's Cove?
GM Rutseg |
Geography, religion or history
You are supposed to gain details through asking around the city, but I will try to gather some general knowledge from source books ;)
I will be restricted to posting during the weekend (expect my activity to be considerably lower during weekends)
Unnvar the Solemn |
No worries. Maybe you could have Gerhart point out a couple of the major landmarks or big buildings in the city? To give us a hint at some of the locations we can ask around at.
Just kind of a layout of the town. Like part of it is walled, can people come and go freely in the walled area. There are several larger buildings on the map, what are they.
If you want us to discover on our own, we can leave out and someone can take the lead on were we go -- is that what you have in mind?
Unnvar the Solemn |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I'm totally digging the investigation! I'm just rolling playing how Unnvar would react to hanging around a bank for several hours, clearly out of his element...ha ha.
GM Rutseg |
That sounds good :)
The mechanics are more or less, you go to one place, you make some questions about the cult, the dissappearances or other things, you roll a diplomacy or k. local roll, and you get a rumor based in the result.
In this case I used Allie's roll, and I am trying to pick up rumors related to the current conversation.
The scenario is calling for only 1 rumor for place, but I am flexible on that whenever it makes sense.
And each location has its own particularities of course.
Archibald the Addlebrained |
Still keeping tabs on the thread, guys. Busy week and I've not had much to contribute.
Unnvar the Solemn |
Nice! I didn't realize I was so close! In my mind the office was further away.
GM Rutseg |
"Ah! Well, I daresay we've missed our midnight rendezvous." the wizard says, groggily. "Moreover, it's well past time this wizard should be sleeping. We've a few days of this new moon remaining, never you worry. Elementary astrology, that is. It's like they don't teach you young Pathfinders anything..." shaking his head and mumruring in dissaproval, Archibald seems to nod off where he stands.
Tomasz says his mother waited at the stone at midnight and it was roughly 1-3 am now. We can investigate for an hour or two or simply come back tommorow.
Thanks Archibald, it is always nice to see players making an effort to keep player discussion in character. I also liked that you added an OOC comment to ensure clarification.
GM Rutseg |
I have certainly overlooked how difficult it is to run a ritual like this in PbP xD
Specially when it comes to this particular scene of the furnace.
I apologize in advance if something here breaks your understanding of action sequence and or space. But I did want to make sure you took your decisions without knowing what has been of the others and I did not want to make you wait during days with single player-GM interactions and each character not participating until another has answered and went to the furnace.
If something really relevant breaks the course of events I have previewed as a result of your actions, we will look to retcon whatever is needed.
Alie Saechel |
You are doing fine as far as I'm concerned, DM. I think its running pretty well.
The investigation is pretty tough in PBP, but I think you got us through it deftly. This part is going fine, too...
Unnvar the Solemn |
Yeah I'm having a blast -- how often do you get to walk into a fiery furnace, not knowing what's about to happen! You are doing a great job as always.
Kleetus Doherni |
You're doing fine. We just need to be proactive on our end.
Also, I really was fine with the whole being branded and not having the opportunity to say no. But I'm glad I got to avoid that so to speak.
Unnvar the Solemn |
<smile>
Unnvar the Solemn |
I'm travelling today and may not be able to post. Depending on what happens my general plan for the next round was to probably cast Prot form Evil on myself and start sneaking into the room. Contingent on the rest of action of course. But GM you can use that if you need to move things forward. Cheers!
GM Rutseg |
I have raised a question to the Gameday IV coordinators in regards of sharing rerolls in order to know if that is possible and how to manage it.
As for Kleetus use of his own reroll I consider the photo as enough support of the Pathfinder brand and you are no longer grappled by the web ;)
Unnvar the Solemn |
My understanding is that by the letter of the law you can't share your own reroll. That said many GMs allow it from time to time. However, loaning a person an extra shirt or folio is more of a grey area.
Cartmanbeck's High-level pregen |
I do have a bunch of PFS purple goblin shirts, so we could say I toss one of those across the table at him. LOL
GM Rutseg |
Another question. I am blinded but my black blade isn't. She is able to see and hear like any other creature and we communicate telepathically. Can she just tell me where to poke so I don't need to do a perception check every round? I know I will still have a 50% miss chance but this way I can still use spell strike and other features. As far as I can tell this should work.
Oh yes! That seems super epic! I can imagine the confusion on Ilian Kosta face upon seeing what is going on :D
I did not know about black blades, they sound like a very cool roleplaying opportunity. Go ahead with your piece of narration on what is going on with your sword and then the rolls. Also remember you can still deliver 'targeted' spells through touch when you cannot see.
So feather step had no effect on the webs?
Sorry! I processed that in my mind, then for some reason I forgot about it while writing the resolution :/ I will write it on the status so I do not forget again. I have moved you 30 feet ahead. You are moving at half speed thanks to haste.
Damn, that's not ideal. Would a fly speed make a difference for me? I can gain one as a Standard action with one of my implements...
In my opinion it will not help in this particular case because the web exists in all the span between ceiling and floor, just as a spider will use it to catch a flying creature.
GM Rutseg |
I think you are well railed to the end of the scenario right now so I will just request if you want something to be added to your chronicles, like Faction Journal goals.
Boon Rolls:
GM: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Alie: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Archibald: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Kleetus: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Mavaro: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Unnvar: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Yvell: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Boon of players choice on a natural roll of 1 or 20
**Re-Rolls not allowed on boons**
Congrats Alie and Yvell, you both get a boon!
I will send you the options through PM.
Unnvar the Solemn |
Yeah Alie and Yvell!!!
Unnvar the Solemn |
Re: Spellcasting services -- It's always a nice thing to add up the total and then split the cost among the party. Lessens the impact for those unlucky enough to require them.
What does everyone think?
Kleetus Doherni |
I've got about 1500 gp laying around, and I don't care either way. I just need to know what to tell our GM.
Edit:Just did the math. If we pool the cost together, we'd each pay 389 gp (388.333333333333333333333 repeating actually)
It only really penalizes Alie who had the good fortune of not getting smacked by a vampire.
