Disagreement in-character is fine but I need to know a course of action so I can move things along, hence an OOC discussion.

Well the consensus seems to be that we'd love to, but we can't. So I think that's the way we roll...

Posted. I hope its persuasive enough for y'all. We're not making our first battle a fight with angron me thinks... Plus ooc I have a sneaky suspicion I know who's coming next!

Sorry that it took a bit to get to posting here. Semantically I agree, however I think staying and fighting is a better alternative.

Nothing says we need to die here. From a Meta standpoint there's literally nothing else going on in the battle right now besides this fight and other similar fights just steps away. In addition the Deathguard we want to meet up with are;

1)Super far away. The Deathguard landed on the outskirts of a hive city that we are just about in the middle of. I'm not talking days worth of walking, but suitably far away that getting there isn't a simple matter.

2)About to fighting a much different and more lethal fight as Mortarion lands and grinds them to dust. Yes it's super metagaming...but I don't want to fight Baneblades and Knights.

Surviving this fight doesn't need to be difficult. We have the Hab Centers to our back so there's no reason to wade into what is basically a field of death. Just draw some marines into the Hab centers which act as a bottle neck and kill them. Then repeat.

Eventually we WILL have to leave. That's a fact of how this fight is. There are essentially limitless enemies and we won't "win" the fight. The goal is to save who we can from the other Legions that are here and make a break for a different plaza.

Besides all that though, from an RP standpoint, I don't see how or why 5 well armed transhuman killing machines would walk away from something so terrible that before this moment there should have never been a marine to ever consider this would ever happen. Not without first trying to exact some measure of vengeance. We are all Rank 3 marines with 40 renown which translates roughly to have at least lead a squad at some point in our career. I say this only in the fact that none of us should "need" to link up to a chain of command in order to figure out what to do. I understand that we need reinforcements so that we don't just die...but orders aren't much needed by us in this scenario. We are mostly Terran Veterans and warriors who have been honed for years in a crucible of war.

Sorry for the longer post but to sum up, we should leave, but it should be a tactile retreat after we do our best to save some from this battle. I don't think we should link up with the Deathguard only because they are too far away, it'd be better to link with someone a bit closer to our location. There are plenty of marines around, we just need to fight to extract them

I hear what your saying, but I see this battle slightly differently.

There are fights going on all over the city but they are nothing like this. This is the point where Angron is making planet-fall, where the terror that is the world eaters unleash what will become their legendary blood-lust. This is not a fight where tactical withdrawl is an option.

I dont think we will reach the Deathguard on the outskirts, I'm sure we will meet other pockets of resistance/traitors between here and there, things will develop.

I think in 40k you're absolutely right. Marines are used to acting with autonomy, forces are much smaller. But in 30k these marines are very small fish in huge schools warfare is very different and I dont think even sergeants would be acting with much autonomy. On top of this the taboo of fighting fellow marines would be a major stalling point. Thiel was called out by his Primarch and sanctioned by Guilleman for even considering the possibility. I don't think, without more information about what is going on here, we would rush to kill fellow marines.

Lastly, if this were a fighting withdrawal then we would see marines falling back already, I think this is a last stand. Holding Angron long enough to provide time for other marines to fall back, regroup and form a proper defense and push back. Toc would rather be in the push back than the last stand.

Sorry to argue but I think this is an important point in the campaign that we need to reach a consensus on.

Something came up, not sure how regularly I will be able to post over the next few days.

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

It seems there is a consensus. Brother Toc, move them out.

Balls! Sorry, can't edit that now...

Quick poll: will you guys need a map for combat or can we use theater of mind?

I'm happy with either, depends how hot you need us to be on exact positioning to be honest.

T

I can deal with either

Theater of the mind should be fine.

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

1/day posts are not being met consistently.

Is everyone enjoying the game so far?

Male Post-Human Tactical marine 3 Demeanor Taciturn

I definitely am.

Yeah, its great. Increasing post rate might make things smoother though.

I apologize on my lack of quality. Currently I am not sure about the continued future of this campaign but I have not made any decisions yet.

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

I have decided to close this game. I don't think I will be able to from early stumbles. I will leave this open for a day before marking as inactive, if anyone would like to voice comments or criticism I am available for PM as well.

I really do apologize though I hope those of you who have never played Deathwatch enjoyed the small experience you did have. If I decide to make a second attempt in the future I will contact you all first.

I think things are going fine. Of course if you want to end it I can't stop you, but from my point of view things seem fine.

Oh no. If your reasons are personal then noone cam argue with that, but I think there's life in this yet if you wanted to try and keep going, I for one would love to continue.

Apart from anything else its just getting juicy and I'm pretty sure I just blew a man up!

Human GM

It's good so far! It just got juicy!

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

Sorry to let everyone down.

Space Marine Dreadnought Rank 3 Devastator

I'm completely fine with continuing!

This next week is Spring Break for me, and I was just busy finishing off some school stuff and packing for the trip home.

Sorry I wasn't able to post as much recently, but that's why.
