Stuff that sucks:

1. Working 106 hours a week for the last 3 1/2 years.
2. Suffering from career burnout.
3. Selling a house (I had forgotten what a pain this is).

I've developed a horrid case of insomnia over the last couple weeks. I don't know why it's worse than usual, but here's how it's perpetuating itself: I can't sleep at night, so I sleep until noon the next day. Of course, I'm not tired at normal sleeping time that night either, so I don't sleep that night, so I sleep in again... The fact that I keep my alarm clock across my room doesn't help; The walking makes me sleepy.

Same here but my alarm is right near my head so I just turn it off! :(

Emergency appendectomy.

(Yes, I'm fine. I'm horribly horribly tired though - didn't get any sleep last night, and this day happened so fast I'm still dazed. The pain meds aren't helping...)

Glad to know you're still alive and well(ish).

One question: What does appendicitis feel like? Be as specific as possable please, I'm a bit of a hipochondriac.

Lilith (Pathfinder Chronicles Charter Superscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Planet Stories Subscriber),

I feel a lot better today. It's probably the obscene amounts of sleep I've been getting.

Dirk Gently wrote:

As far as how it feels - well, I only had the earliest stages of it, but it felt like really bad indigestion with lower abdominal tenderness that wouldn't go away. :( If pain doesn't go away after 8-10 hours, better get stuff looked at.

Censorship sucks.

I just realized that we live in a world where we've been given the freedom to write about or say whatever we want in literature and music.

But if schools can ban books, and if lyrics can be muted...the message isn't gonna' get through. So what's the point?

Andoran Heathansson,

Werewolf avatar

That is the point.

To hell with them; they can't shut down the internet. However, it's so discombobulated with bovine scatology, it's half shut itsself down.

Andoran Heathansson,

Werewolf avatar

Appendixes and gallbladders are about the stupidest damn organs.
WTF? I hate them both. They're not good for anything, all they ever seem to do is mess people up.
Friend of mine had his appendix out a couple months back...he said they were taking him in to get a CT to see if it was appendicitis or diverticulitis; I told him he got the lesser of two evils on that one. He said, "I know, they can cut the damn appendix out and be done with it."

Hope you feel well soon, Lilith.

1. March Hematuria: In case you don't know what that is. It is a annoying little thing that is caused during times when the Liver is being shaken incredibly (Marching in formation for long periods of time---Where the name comes from; Driving a forklift, having a job where you drive a lot...all of which I have done.) What happens is that the liver gets 'Superfically' damaged and causes Blood leakage into the urine. It also feels like someone has punched you in the back. They say sleeping on the floor is not a good idea for this condition.

2. Hemmorroids: If you know what they are I am sorry; if you do not---keep it that way..."Time to pass a pine cone!" "Noooooooooo!!!!!"
"I can't eat another wicker basket mommy!"

Andoran Heathansson,

Werewolf avatar

Hem's suck the big one.
What also sucks is I'm not a talented liar on the fly, so when people ask me why I don't like spicy foods, I don't know what to say.

Valegrim,

39 Efreeti avatar

well, cant say much about the first one; but hems you just need to up your fiber and water intake; spicey food only aggravate them, with more fiber and water you wont have em so the spicey foods wont make them worse. From what I read; 25 to 40 grams a day of fiber is your target and nearly a gallon of water. Gravity matters too; so sitting for long periods and such can aggravate and cause hems; course I got them from teasing peeps for having them; so that was just divine justice so I changed my act and increased my fiber and activity and it worked for me.

also, immodium is your friend

I don't have the dreaded hems (or haems in English) but I had my gall bladder out a couple of years ago. While I was glad to say farewell to the little fella (gall stones are nasty - apparently the same level of pain as giving birth, only once a week or so) it has left my digestion just a teensy bit delicate, especially if I eat fatty food. This is mostly a problem after eating out (the Mrs and I can cook to avoid this) and, shall we say, the next day or so can lead to some problems with blow-back. Embarrassing when a director wishes to come to your desk and talk to you, and you have just let rip.

Pleading extreme gastrointestinal stress usually makes them leave you alone. Either they know what it is, or they understand that they don't want to know.

This is great for ANY food aversion, whether it's true or not. I personally can't eat Indian food without ending up on the ground an hour later, wishing for the burning death to either go away or just kill me quick-like.

Which is a thing that sucks. Everyone I know loves Indian food, and always assume that I'm some sort of squeamish food-phobe when I mention that I can't eat it.

What sucks today?

My co-worker is out sick and my boss is out of the office on appointments all day long.

What does this mean?

I am the only person in the office and have to answer ALL of the calls.

My boss bought me a Pizza Hut pizza and had it delivered to the office since I can't leave for lunch. :D

Getting accepted to Arizona State University, finishing your first semester, and then missing 3 full months of your second semester due to contracting mononucleosis. The missing classes cause you to get expelled, your mother and father refuse to continue paying for your education because you got expelled, and you enter the workforce at age 19 with nothing more than your high school diploma and no chance in hell of getting back to school anytime soon.

This is my life.

I contracted mono, too, during college but managed to trudge on through the semester mostly because I didn't know what was wrong. I couldn't figure out why I was so damn tired. Skipped classes, which I never did before. But I made it through. I got the monotest at the end of the semester and found out. I'm sorry you weren't able to stick it out.

So yeah, I'm right there with you on the spousal abuse thing.

I can think of nothing funnier to have ever happened to anyone on the face of the planet and I wish I had a video of it. Loading up a dolly full of old records, Gundam models and posters that the future Mrs. doesn't want you to hang up in the house, dragging it to the elevator only to miss the elevator because the old woman who was inside it took FOREVER to vacate it(and asked repeatedly if this was the right floor), then taking it outside and down the block only to have it fall over into the street scattering everywhere just when the light turned green for opposing traffic(physics is a painted whore at times), scrambling to put everything back on the dolly before cars ran over everything, dragging it down two and half blocks, stopping intermittently when the wind picks up and blows one or more of lighter boxes off of the dolly and into the street, and arriving at the storage facility only to discover that you missed it by ONE. )*@(#ING. MINUTE. Dragging everything back to the apartment, stopping intermittently again for the same reason, and unloading it into the once-neat apartment which now has a dolly for a centerpiece in the living room. Grr.

I had to clean out the basement at work today. Something (mabye the sump pump or some such thing; I'm no plumber) started leaking down there last summer and the genius management never got it fixed. So, now the words swamp, slimy and fetid come to mind when thinking about the basement. In addition to that they just throw stuff down there so it was an enormous mess which took a long time to clean up. Oh and there was a minor infestation of stink bugs; I ended up stabbing some of them with a steak knife. I am not getting paid enough for this.
