Not sure where to put this, but...
Roughly half the classes get Trained in Perception. The other half get Expert. There is a feat that will increase Perception from Trained to Expert. Is there any way to increase proficiency in Perception beyond Trained?
Fighters get master at 7th, actually. But the point remains that a progression beyond expert is either baked into your class or isn't.
They should definitely add a general feat to raise your Proficiency. Just make them Lvl 7 and 12. I don't understand why Alertness only raises it to Expert. It should just increase it a step and let you take the Feat multiple times.
