Applying pre-gen xp (SFS guide contradiction)

Starfinder Society

This is on page 6 and 7 respectively of the society guide.

"Credit for playing higher-level
pregenerated characters must be applied to a Starfinder
Society Roleplaying Guild character of a lower level than the
pregenerated character or to a 1st-level character"

and a few paragraphs later

"You may apply credit for an adventure
once your Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild character
reaches the level of the pregenerated character used to
play through it. For example, if you played a 8th-level
pregenerated character, you would apply the credit once
your character reaches 8th level."

So which is it? Can I apply my credit to a lower level character or do I have to wait until I hit the level of the pregen?

It means you cannot use a pregen to apply XP from playing an 8th level pregen to an 8th or 9th level character.

I think maybe the first paragraph should have used the word "assigned"? A while back it was explained to me (in the PFS context) that there's a different between "assigning" credit (which is saying which of your actual PCs will get the credit/risk for the scenario) and then later "applying" credit (which is when your PC gets to the same level as the pre-gen you played with, and you add it to their normal stack of Chronicles and transfer all the numbers over).

Ok so if I have a level 1 character with 2xp and I play 1-00 (level 4 pregens), I can apply the xp to my level 1 and become level 2. But, if I play 1-00 and my character is level 4+, I cannot get the xp or any of the other stuff (credit fame etc)

@bonebrah, 01-00 (and other pregen only specials) is a special case. It is one of the few times you could play using level 4 pregens and appy it to a level 4 character. It still cannot be applied to a character level 5+.

^ this.

So if you have a Level 1, 2 or 3 character, you could "assign" a Level 4 pregen's Chronicle to said character, but wouldn't be able to "apply" it until said character reached Level 4.

I thought it was already determined that 1-00 could be applied only to A-A brand new first level character, or B-A character that is 3-4 level?

So, yes, but no.

Claim to Salvation is a Tier 3-4 scenario (with a Tier 3-4 Chronicle).

It can be:

• Applied to a 3rd or 4th level character,
• Assigned to a 1st or 2nd level character, or
• Applied to a 1st level character with the credits reduced.

The rules we've been discussing are the general rules for Pregens.

The "Pregen only" adventures are often handled differently.
