How are you supposed to RP a robot?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Most of them have human like intelligence levels but only have 1 CHA. I don't understand how to roleplay a creature like that.

You could make your voice monotone and not inflect. No sense of humor, maybe?

And is this for the second edition or the first? Because the first edition androids just have a -2 penalty to Cha like Dwarves, not 1 Cha total. Is it different in 2E?

I imagine the 1 in charisma is supposed to come off as lifeless and unfeeling. Someone with an 18 in charisma could be considered larger than life but a robot just idles or performs its function.

Link. On top of being socially inept, robots just look weird.

All of the Cha 1 robots lack personality. They follow directives and orders and very rarely talk. When they do talk its usually because they are following a directive that instructs they say something (like a gearsmen telling a crowd to disperse), or because they need further clarification on their orders.

Most will ignore any questions posed by the players unless they have a directive to communicate with beings in their presumed position. Like a Gearsmen sent to guard would not answer questions because it wasn't told to interact socially, it was told to watch the population and enforce laws! On the other hand a robotic hostess would initiate conversation trying to carry out its duties as a hostess and any questions that fall outside of those duties would get a generic route answer such as "I can not say" with a follow up of "Do you require anything?"

just rp them as an AI that takes every question and request extremely literally. This will rapidly make the robot unlikable w/o it actually being malicious.

"will you please give me a hand with this barrel"

"I'm sorry, but my hand is not detachable, I will see if there are any available."

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I have this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side

In other words: C3P0 but more literal

Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!

The repair robot I statted up for the Wayfinder article thinks of everything in terms of repairing things. It will use it's blowtorch to defend it's self, but only to extend it's function to repair more things.

^You have GOT to name this robot FixIt Felix . . . .

Dark Archive

Like Goth Guru said. They will follow their programming to the best of their ability being as efficient as possible.
