Exocortex Firing mounted weapons?

Rules Questions

So if I am understanding this right you can place a control module on a mounted weapon and have a computer fire it.

So say I am a level 7 Exocortex Mechanic in powered armor. I have a mounted weapon and control module it to my Expert Rig (which has a computer rating of half my level).

Can my Exert Rig:

A: Basically give me an extra free attack per round or
B: Would I need to use a computer test to do that?

If B would I be able to have my exocortex use remote hack on the Expert Rig for the computer skill check and run it that way?

If you give your ai root access it can control the module without a computer check

I believe that the ecocortex would have to control your expert rig. There are no provisions for an ecocortex to make an attack roll. You could authorize it, and it would not need a roll but it would still occupy the ecocortex and it could not provide combat tracking that turn.

However the attack roll will suck. The ecocortex can't do the attack itself so it's the expert rig doing it. It's tier is half the mechanic level (so 3 to start) and therefore the bonus is +3 which is pretty weak.

All that said, this feels like an exploit to me, and I'm not sure it's allowable. I'm not sure mounted weapons can be controlled in this way. Honestly I think you'd be better having the ecocortex doing your combat tracking. But that's up to your GM.

Isn't the bonus of a computer taking an attack or a skill check (Tier x2.5)?

For a Tier 3 computer you'd be looking at +7, which still isn't wonderful, but if it's a free attack, it's gravy all the way down. At level 8 it jumps up to +10.

Actually its equal to tier for attack, and 2.5 times tier for skills. Page 215, under control module. So tier 3 is +3 to hit. It is considered proficient, but says nothing about specialization, so it presumably doesn't have it. So its basically just dice on the weapon.

Its mostly useful for firing explosive heavy weapons which only need to hit a DC 5. Save DCs would only be 10 + 0.5 * weapon level, so not that impressive either.
