Mass combat, how does combat vs cities work?

Rules Questions

Greetings,

I've looked everywhere, and I can't seem to find how the taking of a city in the mass combat rules works?

I'm running kingmaker and i have a guest DM running big V and he'd like to conduct secret attacks vs player cities without armies, but I don't know what the rules are for the razing of cities, or if he wants to take a city and have the players take it back.

Thanks for your help

Unopposed armies can basically do whatever they want to a settlement. Look at the event section for ideas on how to handle the damage an army can do. It would be fair to compare the size of the army to the size of the settlement. Each lot is assumed to house 250 residents. While they aren't an army they could put up some 'resistance' to having the city destroyed if there is a large disparity between their numbers and the invading army.

A 10 to 1 ratio of civilans to soldiers would be about the minimum for invaders to hold a city. Any less soldiers and they couldn't properly watch the civilians. Once you get to a 5 to 1 ratio the invaders should be able to watch the civilians and have enough additional troops to accomplish other goals. Or the army could just secure a section of the settlement and focus on their goals instead of trying to control the entire civilian population. This would mean the military would control a few blocks around their 'base' and the rest of the settlement would 'run wild' which would probably be a stability check to see how things go.

Yeah, it just sucks that in such a vast and detailed setting there is virtualy no statistics for taking over another city or for siege fights and what you gain from them.

I guess I'll just make up some house rules on city capture and razing.
