What will saves aren't mind affecting?

I remember someone telling me that steadfast personality isn't very good because it only works against mind affecting.
But I gotta wonder what will saves aren't mind affecting? I imagine you would be hard pressed to find them.


Slow, Possession (and related effects), Plane Shift, Curses, 2nd save on Baleful Polymorph, Imprisonment, Trap the Soul, Mage's Disjunction, disbelieving illusions (including shadow spells), Telekinesis, pain effects/spells, Banishment/Dismissal, etc.


Most will saves are mind effecting. That is the main reason most people boost their will save.

The inflict wound spells are will saves. Unwilling Shield is another one.

As long as you have a decent charisma this feat is worth having.

Along with channel energy, that should cover most of the core rulebook. The bestiaries, of course, will have much more variety.


If the real question is "is this feat worth taking because most will saves that will ruin your day are mind effecting", the answer is yes.

At the same time you have to consider how much does your GM use those types of spells, and the campaign itself.

At my table it is worth taking.


Curse stuff is the big one. Bestow curse is a great, flexible debuff spell that can be often put on powerful casters, and it can serve a narrative purpose as well- so you should expect it to come up at some point.

Also some necromancy stuff- most necromancy uses fort saves, but the ones that do not often focus on souls (such as magic jar or soul bind) and as such it goes to will saves.

But as Wraithstrike noted- if you find something that only covers mind affecting effects... then you are golden. It covers most will saves... and it covers the WORST will saves- the "murder your whole party and lead to a TPK" will saves.

That is why I often play half elves on poor will save classes- +2 to will, +2 against mind affecting effects. That is most of the way to patching up a poor will save for the most important rolls.


Off the top of my head the witch's Misfortune hex, Retribution major hex, and the Dire Prophecy and Forced Reincarnation Grand Hexes are a few non-mind affecting Will saves.


Glitterdust is a nasty Will-save spell that does not affect your mind. When I play a wizard I love using this spell. It works on creatures immune to mind-affecting spells (who often have poor Will saves) and it ignores spell resistance. It's a poor wizard's See Invisibility as well.
