Mass Effect "Too Valuable", "Definitely Still Happening" - Some Idle Speculation

So these statements from EA and Bioware have recently popped up. Obviously should a new Mass Effect game happen it will be years from now, but now is the time for some idle speculation.

Why? Because its fun.

Post yours thoughts and hypotheses here.

My first thought was that I hope its not a prequel. I am generally not fond of those. Generally, if a franchise or game has a new story taking places in an age or century before a major story or event it is fine. So a Rachni War would be cool, but a direct prequel would be less so. So, no First Contact War.

With prequel not an option for me that leaves a sequel, or a story that takes place after Shepard's story. What this means is that Bioware would mostly likely have to bite the bullet and pick a cannon ending. Which ending to choose though. I have two ideas for this.

First, follow the default and go Renegade. Yes, renegade is the default mode. When a player would start ME 2 or 3 without importing a previous save everything defaulted to Renegade. Even when you used ME Genesis to build your world save, except for the big decisions, everything defaulted to Renegade.

The second idea is to borrow from XCOM 2 and determine a canon ending based on player data. Goes over the player decisions build the cannon based off the most commonly chosen decisions. This I think would make for a more dynamic world state and allow the players to feel more involved/invested.

I think they are just going to move forward with Andromeda.

Andromeda is hopefully dead and done. Such a terrible game.

I hope they can get over themselves and just get back to the Milky Way and do a proper sequel. Yeah, yeah, player's choice blablabla. See Pathfinder 2.0 and an updated Golarion, which also had people swearing that they'd throw a fit if the campaign setting ever got updated to "invalidate" their own campaigns.

If Anthem bombs, it's more going to be a case of seeing BioWare shuttered and the assets sold off, and then in 5 years or something Mass Effect will come back as a mobile game and EA will be confused when everyone gets very annoyed by it (see: Dungeon Keeper & Command and Conquer).

Based on Anthem and the rumoured direction of Dragon Age 4, more likely is that Mass Effect 5 will be a multiplayer-focused game of some kind, maybe people coming together to fight one another because reasons.

I am disappointed that Andromeda bombed. Having a colonization themed game was interesting.

Im playing andromeda now. Not a perfect game by any means, but not awful. Some plot holes. Reminds me of mass effect 1 that way.

Combat and exploration in Andromeda was ok, but the dialogue and characters were awful. So much squandered potential that made the game almost unplayable for me. I think "my face is tired" was the killer. Never finished it.

I wouldn't mind a sequel, especially with the 'destroy' ending, though it would have to make some tough choices. Overall I just want a return to good writing and interesting characters.
