Level Up Advice for Blood Kineticist

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice in regards to leveling my character and feel almost spoiled for choice at the moment.

I'm a player in a Hell's Rebels game and we've just hit level 2. As I'm playing a Kineticist with the blood Kineticist archetype. The party I'm in is Cleric, Fighter, Daring Champion Cavalier and a Witch.

I now get to select my first Utility Wild Talent, but a lot of the choices seem very good and I'm struggling to work out which one would be best. I've narrowed it down to three, but would appreciate any further advice on the subject!

Elemental Whispers

Basically a fragment of your element becomes a familiar. The benefit of this being the Alertness feat, the empathic link, and by selecting hedgehog a +2 to will save which I think would be good for a class that has generally poor will saves.

Kinetic Cover

As a standard action I could select one face of a square to provide total cover within 30ft until destroyed. I could have up to 4 of these shields active at once. The benefit I see here is that being an exclusively ranged character being able to create cover would be a helpful trick, and I could also use it to support the party.

Slick

Ostensibly this talent acts as Grease but for one round. By accepting a point of burn I could turn that into a minute. It seems like this would be useful at this early stage, but I don't know how long it would be useful for and I wonder if a DC14 save would be too easy to make this choice worthwhile.

There is also Kinetic Healer which I really like, however with our party having a cleric, I don't think healing would be quite as useful at this point.

Elemental whispers


The witch might appreciate kinetic cover since witches typically have few defensive options, especially at lower level (I'm playing a witch and I would appreciate any protection an ally could grant me, they don't, but I'd appreciate it if they did).

I would't bother with Slick, you'd be using a Utility Wild Talent just to poorly replicate a first level spell which doesn't seem like a good deal to me. Let the witch take care of crowd/battlefield control if it's something the group really needs.

Elemental whispers probably grants you the most bang for you buck. If you choose a familiar such as a greensting scorpion or the hedgehog you're pretty much getting the benefit of a feat right there (Improved initiative or Iron Will respectively) which coupled with Alertness nets you two feats. While the skill bonus isn't that great, if you take a raven familiar then you've got yourself a flying scout that can speak one language of your choosing and if it takes damage it just returns to your mind, there's no cost to replace it unlike a regular familiar so there's no risk in using it.

Between the witch and the cleric with their spells, hexes, channel energy and wands you shouldn't really need Kinetic Healer but taking it at some point isn't the worst thing you could do. Might save a life after all.
