AoE Splash Damage on Invisible Enemy?

Rules Questions

So here's the thing, an enemy has chugged a bottle of Invisibility potion. The Alchemist in the party wants to throw a bomb where he last saw the guy to try to do damage.

This won't break the Invisibility, but does the fact that the bomb does AoE/Splash damage mean the enemy doesn't get a 50% miss chance to avoid the attack all together?

Altogether, no. They get the 50% miss chance to avoid the direct hit, but they'll still take splash damage.

Silver Crusade

The miss chance would apply to a direct hit on the enemy, but not to any area of effect attack. Being invisible doesn't let you avoid a fireball (or a bomb splash) if you are still within the area.

edit: ninja'd!

Miss chance only applies to things with a to hit roll. There is no to hit roll with splash damage.

depending what the alchemist is aiming at when throwing the bomb there might be these outcomes.:

1A: he aimed to hit the invisible target (touch ac) and hit it's ac and got over the miss chance - full direct damage to target.

1B: as 1A but missed the touch ac or the miss chance - rolling 1d8, picking direction and 20(in normal bomb case) feet away from that spot the bomb land. - even if some1 is in that space, he and every one around only take splash damage. (a lot miss this rule but missed bombs never do direct damage even if they go into some1's else space and hit them).save for half if bomb or take whole splash damage if other splash weapon.

2A: he aimed at the grid around where the target was (dc 5 to hit. also since not attacking anyone in melee never need precise shot to avoid shooting into melee) and hit - splash damage to anyone in splash damage area .save for half if bomb or take whole if other weapon..

2B: as 2A but somehow misses dc 5 - roll for direction miss etc. as 1A.

or 3: the attack hits a square and the splash damage area does not reach the invisible target and thus the invisible target takes no damage.

again, the 50% miss chance only applies to a "to hit" roll which targets a specific creature or object. Splash and area of effect(AoE) spells affect all creatures and objects in their AoE and do not suffer a miss chance (although there may be a saving throw).

that is included in 1B and 2B: "even if some1 is in that space, he and every one around" that 'he' is anyone that might be in the space that the missed weapon hit. not the 'he' - specific invisible original target. if the original target is out of splash range then he is not in the splash range.
