Antagonize feat

Rules Questions

Hi, community,

me and my players had a discussion about Antagonize feat. It says:

source wrote:
As a standard action, you can antagonize a foe that can see and hear you by attempting a Diplomacy or Intimidate check (DC = 10 + your opponent’s total Sense Motive skill bonus, or 15 + 1-1/2 × the opponent’s CR, whichever is higher). If you succeed, the foe is off-target and takes a –2 penalty to all skill checks for 1 round plus 1 additional round for every 5 by which your result exceeds the DC, or until it makes an attack against you, forces you to attempt a saving throw, or damages you (whichever comes first). Once you have attempted to antagonize a foe, that foe is immune to this ability for 24 hours. This is a language-dependent ability.

So, "until it makes an attack against you" - does it means that he should make an attack against this player with all those penalties and effect will gone AFTER this attack? Or he makes an attack against an author of Antagonize effect without any penalties?

I would say the penalties would apply to the attack.

To my memory, comparing it to Pathfinder's version of which it is a direct pull, it draws the target's attention to you. You're a distraction, and in the PF version the benefits did not extend to you, only your allies.

However, PF Antagonize had two different functions depending on your skill choice. One to lower attack rolls and the other to draw attention, forcing the target to attack you.

Making an attack to me would say actually making the roll. The other two conditions being forcing a saving throw which would be after a spell generally, and damage is damage. Normally the end result of an action. With all that, I'd say the first attack roll against the antagonizer would be at penalty, however as soon as it was made regardless of outcome, the effect would be over.

Thank you, guys, sounds reasonable!

But an attack roll is not skill check. The rule as written says it applies to skill checks. Am I missing something?

Because the attacker is off-target, which imposes a -2 to attack roles.
