Priest of Gorum using negative energy an evil act?

Person playing the PC doing this does not consider it and evil act at all.

Probably because it isn't.

Edit: That may have come off as snarky, so I apologize. Negative energy is not evil aligned, it is just "not-good". It's about as evil as using a sword. Used on the right people, it's okay.

You may be thinking of working with undead*, which can be a slippery slope. Creating undead is an evil act, but does not necessarily make the character evil. Gorum probably doesn't care about that too much, and while not evil values harming more than healing.

Your player is in the clear!

I will say that gorum probably looks down upon pure necromancers through. It is one thing to be a support to allies that just so happen to be undead (I mean- a grave knight might be a very devote follower of gorum; it wouldn't be unusual).

But raising the dead to use as meat shields, just so you don't have to go into battle yourself? That seems like it would peeve off gorum. He would ask 'why aren't you worshiping nethys insead?'. Gorum is more about going out yourself to hack off heads.

However, if it is channeling negative energy to harm the living, then gorum is probably cool with it.

Negative energy isn't evil aligned (although I personally wish it was because it would actually explain why Undead are inherently evil, but that's a different discussion) so the player is fine.

It's exactly as evil as using the Inflict Wounds spells, which you'll notice isn't aligned. Or the Cure Wounds spells for that matter.

Channeling energy is just a tool.

How they choose to use it is a personal choice that will have consequences based on the how they use it or whom they use it on.

Healing the party necromancer's troops, good.

Channeling negative energy in the middle of the market, evil.

I don' think you can call healing evil creatures (Undead) "Good", but it's certainly not evil.
