PACG at GenCon

Pathfinder Adventure Card Society

GenCon and PACG are two of my favorite things put together for four days.

Looking at the schedule, am I correct that rather than schedule a wide array of events by "Season", events are scheduled as kind of a block. I'm imagining that this is due to a 10am time slot featuring a RotR and another featuring WofR might only get 1 or 2 players a piece, and then they'd have to join up and figure out what to play anyhow?

Seems like a move the right direction.

My wife and I play PACG all the time (countless campaigns across all four base sets), but wthis will be the first time playing together at GenCon.

Is this: PFS Adventure Card Guild #10-00: Hao Jin Cataclysm, the combined event with the RPG?

Haven't done it before.

I did the tournament two years ago where there were trivia questions. Last year, I kinda got bumped from it as there was a mismatch on the people count. Is the event similar to the first year, where I need to bump up my trivia knowledge?

Thanks.

We have found that a good number of players in the past bought whatever tickets were available and then decided on what to play when they arrived. So this year, we have lumped all the prior season material into a single pool of tickets. More or less its up to the players to decide which season/scenarios they want to play. Unlike RPG where the GM has to do considerable prep work for the session, an ACG GM only really needs a few minutes to set up and experienced players don't even really need a GM at all. We will have all the seasonal boxes available so it should not pose a problem to accommodate whatever the players want to play.

We will have a table specified for Demos as well as some specifically designated for the new season which will be announced at PaizoCon. Also, there are tables designated for the open which will be running throughout the convention. Be sure to purchase your tickets for the preliminary round if you want to enter. Subsequent rounds will be by invite-only based on scoring. It is a special scenario series, not a trivia event.

The Friday PM event is the ACG component of the RPG multi-table special.

I played PACG again this year at Gencon. I have used this event as fill in time between other games. I didn't exactly notice the format changes and ended up signing up for the open 3 times. I played it once and didn't really have any interest in playing it again. (Our team scored the lowest). I exchanged those extra tickets with others that wanted to play. I have a complaint about 2 of the GM's at the games that I played. One of them played with us, which is fine, but made an error. I called him out on it but didn't argue. He discarded a spell for damage and then recharged the spell as he said he played and was allowed. My second complaint, is another GM cheated for us to allow us to win the scenario. I get it cause 3 of them were new-ish but I'm not good with it. I let if go and counted the win. I'm not calling these people out per se but I think standards should be maintained.
Finally, my last complaint, I think that players that are borrowing pre-built decks should get a pre-made deck. I mean that has been completely built and ready to play out of the box instead of taking the time to build it at the event from a deck. Example: If they want to play a fighter then they get Flenta with the 15 cards already built. The next person can use the same fighter. Its not like they are keeping it to put in deck upgrades.
Just my .02 cents.

If you have feedback about specific tables/GMs/volunteers, please send it to genconleads@gmail.com. Be as descriptive as possible and include as much indentifying information as possible so we can determine who the GMs were and follow up with them. Thank you

Sorry to hear about the mixed feelings and I have no doubt the organizers will value your feedback.

Note that if the GM's were the same ones that signed your chronicles for those sessions then you would have their PFS ID and their initials which would help with the description you would be sending to the email Bob Jonquet mentioned.
