Assigning Pre-Gen Credit Question

Apologies for a question that I'm sure is covered somewhere--I just can't find it.

I know that credit for playing a pre-gen has to be assigned to one of the player's PFS characters (of a lower level) at the beginning of the scenario. What do you do if the player: a) doesn't have a PFS character of the appropriate level or b) doesn't want to risk assigning credit to one of their "real" characters in a scenario or module that has a reputation for being deadly? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that credit could be assigned to a newly-created first level character, but I'm not exactly sure.

You just assign credit to an uncreated –XX.

So like if the player has three characters, Levels 2, 3 and 4, but wants to play Harsk in Bonekeep 3, they would write –4 when they signed in.

Okay, that makes sense. And if the pre-gen dies, I have to report that uncreated-xx as dead and tell the player to skip that character number?

They don't/can't skip it. When it's eventually created online it just automatically gets a strikethrough its name marking it as dead.

Same for if the Pregen lived. When it's eventually created online it automatically receives credit for the game.

Thanks--all clear now.
