Do ranged attacks from engaged vehicles during chase provoke attacks of opportunity?

Rules Questions

Straightforward question, couldn't really find it in the rules though I'm leaning towards it being a yes. But if 2 vehicles are in a chase, and they are engaged after the piloting phase, then a player makes a ranged attack from one of the vehicles, does that player provoke an attack of opportunity from the NPCs in the other vehicle? I realize they wouldn't if they were disengaged, but when they are engaged it doesn't explicitly say one way or the other. Thanks

I don't think the two vehicles are close enough to allow for an AOO from ranged combat. The melee attacks section states that melee attacks can only be made with reach weapons.

Here is the full rule:

Melee attack, page 285 wrote:
Anyone in a vehicle can make melee attacks against those on an enemy vehicle with which their own vehicle is engaged. You can make melee attacks against those in an enemy vehicle only with reach weapons, and such targets typically have some cover provided by their vehicle. Even when your vehicles are engaged and you’re using a reach weapon, you do not threaten any squares of the other vehicle.

The last sentence is the important part. You can't get an AOO if you don't threaten the square.

I totally missed that reach part and the bit on threatening the space. Thanks

Not surprising since you were looking for ranged and the important part was under melee.
