Downtime Rooms / Teams

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I was thinking about something while prepping for an upcoming session that'll start with Downtime. When I began my current homebrew campaign I gave PCs a free Shack - essentially a 10' x 10' hovel or hut where they could sleep between adventures.

Since then they've added other rooms; one PC upgraded their Shack to an Office. In looking over 2 PCs' current organizations, I realized they didn't ACTUALLY have a sleeping area anymore.

This begs the question for discussion: can a Room or Team be more than it's general description?

For example there had been a PC wizard that died 2 game sessions ago, however he was working towards a new Library for the city. He had 2 Book Repositories, an Office, a Statue and Storage. He also had a team of Laborers.

So, could "Laborers" be junior librarians? I don't think an individual Laborer ever upgrades to "Sage" but they could go Scofflaws to Buearucrats who are then described as "Scribes" so that's kind of like a librarian?

Also apparently when this PC upgraded from Shack to Office the player reasoned that in going from 4 squares to 5 squares worth of space all he'd done was made his modest hut a bit nicer and added a desk and chair. Is that accurate? Even if a room doesn't explicitly say you could sleep there, you could still technically sleep there right?

I'm asking for this discussion b/c one of my players was thinking he'd just follow the same route and upgrade his Shack to an Office as his living quarters. Since he's an alchemist who is never going to monetize a Bedroom or Kitchen for his business/organization, leaving it as an Office would give him 5 squares of interior space with a locking door in which he could place a cot, a wardrobe and a desk.

Please give me your thoughts on having a Room or Team represent something else.
