What do we know about feats?

Here's some snippets:

"You still select feats, but these now come from a greater variety of sources, such as your ancestry, your class, and your skills."

All "magic stuff" is spells; all non-magical abilities are feats.

"It's a fundamental design goal that someone with enough martial prowess, especially if they're legendary (but not precluding those who are not) can do unbelievable and completely unrealistic-in-the-real-world things. So much so that down the line we've gotten questions back about some of the more powerful skill feats 'Can you really do Extreme-Thing-X just because you're that good at the skill?' Yes. Yes you can."

What else do we know? What questions do we have?

Personally, I'm wondering how often you'll get to choose between picking any feat and picking, say, a race feat or a skill feat. Do you get a new skill feat every X ranks? Do you get a "race feat" at levels 8 and 12?

I'd actually kind of dislike seeing the old system where you get a general feat every other level, and practically everyone ignores skill feats or background feats or racial feats because they're not as good (barring those going for a specific build). It'd be great if everyone had at least one racial feat or if you could gain extra skill feats based on your investment into skills.

I think some of my speculations may actually be true, as Mark has said, "There is actually something called a 'heritage feat' among ancestry feats that you pick up at 1st level. You'll have to wait for more info on those until we blog about races!"

What are your questions about feats, and what have you heard?

One of the best things about the kineticist (and later the vigilante) is how "your job" talents and utility/out of combat talents don't compete with each other. I'd love to see this expanded to the new feat system so that you can always pick up fluff stuff that expands your character's overall design and options without hurting your main focus.

Yeah, for most players only the "Combat Feats" section exists. Make it so that when you gain a feat, is has to be of a specific category only (like BG skills system) because the opportunity cost of combat feats will make every other type irrelevant unless it's ultra powerful (only matters in context of combat).

I'd love to see something along the lines of:

Level: Feat
1: Ancestry Feat
2: Class Feat
3: General Feat
4: Class Feat
5: Skill Feat
6: Class Feat
7: Ancestry Feat
8: Class Feat
9: General Feat
10: Class Feat
11: Skill Feat
And so on...

Ancestry feats could be drawn from a pool of feats related to either your culture or your race/ancestors/heritage.

Skill feats require a minimum number of skill ranks or a minimum level requirement.

General feats could be any feat you qualify for, including class, ancestor, and skill.

This sounds great! Very, very promising for the would-be Beowulfs and Heracleses and Aragorns of the fantasy world!

Definitely happy to hear that a martial will be able to do things like a mythological hero (or anime or video game hero if that's your bag) without having to gish. I also second that I would love for there to be a second feat acquisition track for non-combat/metamagic feats, to induce people to actually pick stuff that improves what their character does in the world.

Another thing I'd like to see, just as they did in Starfinder: no more feat walls!

After reading the Level Up blog, it seems you got your wish.
