A reason to make new characters?

With the advent of 2e on the horizon, and the end of First Edition PFS material being printed in just over a year, let me ask a very simple question-
DO you still plan on making characters for PFS 1.0?

For me, personally, no to an extent. I have 16 PFS characters and two at lvl 1.0. One of those unplayed builds- is a Ratfolk, of which i was told that boons won't carry over. My lingering Wayang Arcanist build may as well just not exist, and give the "Paths We Choose" faction trait to my ratfolk.

I *had* four potential builds running around my head: a "barmaid brawler", a "Feysworn bard", a dwarf skald with a Bag'o-Pipes, and a Halfling Paladin. But those ones may wait til 2e to see what's viable.

Outside of running the characters through AP's via "campaign mode" or through a slough of Modules, I don't see a reason to make any more new characters, if the pool of playable scenarios is definitively finite.

What about the rest of the board, in the coming wake of change?

Silver Crusade 3/5

I might still make a character or two. Mostly because I'm running out of low-level characters, so I'll need someone to play the 1-5s I haven't played yet when my current characters level to 6.

It sounds like, if you playtest Pathfinder 2.0 and keep playing PFS through Season 10 there are opportunities to acquire Boons for PFS 2.0. So it's worth it to keep playing.

Whether it's worth it to start new characters... *shrug*. That answer will vary depending on who you're asking.

3/5

I'll probably still make some new characters since it seems unlikely that race boons will carry over in any capacity and since I've still got the majority of 1e material available to play (and GM) for credit - but I'm also pretty certain that I won't make as many new characters as I might have otherwise.

Dataphiles 3/5

Personally my answer is yes. I suspect everyone's answer will in some part be determined by how many scenarios they still need to play. If you've played through most of the available content, and already have some low level characters for the upcoming material then probably not. However, if like me you still have lots of content to play plus the season and a half yet to come then why not?

5/5 *****

I currently have 30+ active PCs including three or four who are under level 5 so probably not. They should give me enough options to play the remaining content as it comes out.

I've been playing PFS for less than a year and trying to concentrate on one primary character, so if I manage to get her perma-killed or leveled up to Seeker before August 2019, then yes.

I’ve got 2 I’ll likely go through with making. One is my Ratfolk boon. The other I’ve actuslly played at level 1, but I’m thinking of switching him to a different character number. I have a 5th Level GM credit character, so I can accelerate the build to the point where I can make use of a boon item I want for the character (and have not yet received GM credit for the scenario). My Samsaran and Grippli May never come to be, but I’ll hold onto the boons for a bit just in case.

Yes, because likely the first season of 2.0 will suffer from the same issue as organized play for Starfinder where it never feels like there's enough scenarios to play.

1/5

Considering that my characters are levels 1, 2, 2, 4, 4 and 7 it seems highly unlikely.

My local GMs and VOs all believe that 1.0 play will slowly taper off over the next few years as 2.0 picks up steam, so I ought to get plenty of action for these guys.

Silver Crusade 5/5 5/5 **

I've got lots of characters and doubt that I'll create any more.

The exception MAY occur if I have no 1-2 characters and the 1-5 scenario is playing down. I hate playing a 4-5 in a 1-2 as the character will just ROTFLSTOMP the scenario and spoil the fun for everybody else.

But I'd be more likely to just not play, hoping to get a chance to play it at high tier later.

It will partly depend on the level mix that Paizo brings out next year. To take it to an extreme, if they're ALL 1-5 then I'll HAVE to introduce new characters :-)

I got this shiny Merfolk boon, so yes.

The Rougarou boon is also burning a hole in my pocket, but I dunno. Maybe if we get oozemorph.

Well...with the 250+ current scenarios, evergreens, APs, modules, etc.
Plus anything they publish in the next year and a half...I don't foresee most people running out of material to play any time soon.

Plus, it will take several years before PF2 has enough materials for people to not run out of things to play in a hurry.

So yes...I plan on making many more characters, in addition to the 12 I currently have for PFS.

My plans for making more characters will continue as if nothing happened. I agree with Slyme, there is going to be a ramping up/lag in content for PF2 so there is still PLENTY of PF1 goodness and good times to be had!
I will however refrain from making any more new content for PF1 and will divert my monies to Star Finder and PF2.

I've only been playing for a few months and only have a Level 4 and a Level 1 character. I've already got 1 more built and 1 80% built, but I don't know if I'll be making any more after those get play.

Yes. The fact that they stop making new scenarios doesn't mean the old ones become unavailable all of a sudden. Ideally I'd jump straight into 2.0, but as mentioned above, the pace of release probably means I'll fall back on OG Pathfinder pretty soon. It'll be confusing to mix game systems, but I'll manage.

I haven’t played any PFS since October, I've just GM’d an occasional game since then. Since the local scene left me burnt out on PFS to the point of stepping down from being a VO, I had just considered dropping out altogether. But, I’m starting to get the itch again, and I think I’m going to go online to scratch it. I’ve got some boons to burn through, so new characters seem to be coming.

Heck yes. I still have a fair number of things to try out.
- Merfolk boon
- Suli boon
- Oozemorph
- A second, creepier Oozemorph
- At least two more Summoners. Twinned and Morphic Savant look neat.
- My janky 5-class build that gets 40 strength by level 9
- The man, the legend, the Half Elf known as Charles Barkleaf.

I've started prepping multiple Gallows of Madness runs to set them up. Hopefully I'll get each of them to a decent level before we roll over to 2e.

More summoners? Eeeeeeeeeeeek!

Since each of your characters have been crazy different, I am looking foward to seeing them at my tables, Rosc!

Hmm

The Exchange 1/5

No, since I have enough to carry me thru the wind down. No more splatbooks/rulebooks needed also (just cancelled Ultimate Wilderness planned purchase)

I've only been playing PFS for 2-3 years, so there's a LOT of content I haven't played yet. So yes, I intend to keep making new characters. I currently have PCs at 10, 6, 4, 2 (x3), and 1, so I have at least one who can play at every tier (except Seeker), and I plan to keep it that way as they all level up.

We have friends who we've recently introduced to PFS through a home game, so that necessitated a new PC for me (now 2nd), and I'll probably start another one in that game within the next year. My kids started PFS last year, and have recently debuted their dash-2's. So a lot of the content my wife and I have played is still fair game for running for others.

2/5

Also, I've barely even touched the non-core classes. I've powered up my first hybrid (brawler) to 6 this winter, and have a shaman and witch at 2.

And I intend to try an unchained class at some point soon. But my wife and I haven't found the right scenario to debut our Asmodean duo (summoner and cleric) yet... ;)

As a VA, I'm definitely going to keep making characters. My store has anywhere from 10-20 tables per month, and there will be plenty of demand for PFS 1.0.

jealous at that amount of tables per month!

As for making chars, I am a bit on the fence. I enjoy making chars (will have a blurb of modules to make a lvl 6 soon) but with 2.0 coming out and my limited PFS time due to my work makes me not that much into considering it.

Would be a shame of some of the race boons / special boons I have in the end :(

No, but only because I have 33 characters and about that many scenarios left to play.

Including APs?

I will definitely admit that our Saturday morning time slot is advantageous to people's schedules (though there's definitely some ebb and flow to it).

What really sealed the deal is we started doing modules on Saturday nights. There's a lot of people in this area who haven't gotten much of a chance at those, so we've been doing Gallows of Madness, Ire of the Storm, Emerald Spire, Fangwood Keep, etc. It's been a very successful expansion of our playtime (we're offering all the parts of Emerald Spire in order, once a month, and every month there's two tables of it).

We run in Campaign Mode, so it doesn't really make a difference to my PFS characters.
