Drael Kapernos |
Drael steps between the gnomes and the spider they attempted to escape from, lashing out with his axe while attempting to dodge Min's icy projectile.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (8) + (1) + 4 = 13
Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab tries to see the pink spider around Drael. But he is so big, she can only see the spider through his legs!
"Don't move, Rotten Egg! I'm shooting between your legs!"
Then she wiggles her fingers very carefully, at the pink spider...
A gust of wind flies from her hands!
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 - 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + 1 - 1 - 4 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 6
And hits the ground before it even reaches Drael.
"Auw, shucks!"
Turning to her brother, Rab-rab explains, "Your shot was easier than mine! He was not in your way, then!"
At her feet, Jack-jack shakes his head. Even he knows that it is not Rotten Egg's fault. Rab-rab just had bad aim that time!
GM Dinketry |
Both gnomes fire elemental blasts at the spider, missing with both attacks. The bloodrager, however, seems to be on fire, as his axe cleaves the abdomen free of the spider previously attacking the siblings.
Razif’s spider takes another bite at the ranger!
Melee Attack vs Razif: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d6 ⇒ 2 MISS!
The spider’s fangs, smeared sticky with gore, fail to separate as it attacks the ranger!
Round 10!
Uzma Fortitude Save vs Poison: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26 SUCCESS!
Min Fortitude Save vs Poison: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3 FAIL!
Min STR damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Min swoons, very close to losing consciousness from the poison. Uzma’s wound stops burning.
Layaali and Uzma may act!
Rab-rab Bunnis |
"Min? Min, are you alright?" Rab-rab asks with worry.
Layaali Twice-Born |
Hearing Rab-rab's cries, Layaali takes a step back from the spider (five foot step back) and crouches down over Min.
"Vildeis protect this brave soul!"
She prays loudly, placing a hand on Min's shoulder. Guidance on Min, to give him +1 on his next save against the poison.
GM Dinketry |
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 SUCCESS!
Uzma's spell goes off, but the spider attacking Razif doesn't seem affected. Uzma's dazzled spider, sensing its prey still struggling, bites into the druid again.
Melee Attack vs Prone Uzma, Dazzled: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 1 = 181d6 ⇒ 2 HIT! - 2 hp dmg, Uzma!
Uzma Fortitude Save vs Poison: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9 FAIL!
Uzma STR damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Uzma, you have taken 6 pts of STR damage (-3 to STR stuff). Drael, you have taken 4 pts of STR damage (-2 to STR stuff). Min, you have taken a whopping 11 pts of STR damage (-5 to STR stuff).
The spider savours its successful bite, injecting venom anew into the druid in a desperate attempt to quell its prey so that it might begin feasting.
Razif, Min, Rab-rab, and Drael may act!
Drael Kapernos |
Drael, his axe no longer glowing, switches his focus yet again towards the only spider still within reach.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Min Bunnisbeldar |
Feeling like he might fall over and die any moment, Min looks at his sister.
"Be safe..."
Then he moves over closer to the spider and shoots one last blast at him...
"Kskooo... Kskooo...." Energy ray.
A beam of icy cold magic flies at the green spider...
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 1 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 1 - 4 = -1
Cold Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
But he can barely stand, and he misses completely.
I am saving my guidance for my fortitude save.
Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab suddenly looks very, very worried.
"Min? MIN!"
She grabs onto Min and tries to pull him back out of the way.
Can I use my turn to drag Min into the top left corner? If not, Rab-rab will ready an action to catch Min if he falls over, and then drag him over into the corner.
GM Dinketry |
Nope. You can only charge if you have a clear path. Additionally, you need at least 10 feet of movement for a charge. You cannot occupy Uzma’s space because he is conscious, even though you’d be trying to move out of his space - you’re still starting a CMB in an occupied space, so the bull rush attempt is a no-go.
Razif al-Akkuya |
Understandable!
Still fighting the shivers, Razif attempts another strike at the spider.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 1 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 1 + 1 = 21
Crit Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
GM Dinketry |
Drael misses with his axe, the blade landing heavily to the left of the humble spider threatening Razif. The ranger feints to the left then drives his scimitar straight between the arachnid's many eyes. With vengeance in his own eyes, Razif leans in on the blade, driving it hilt-deep. The spider quivers and drops to the ground.
Rab-rab rushes to the side of her woozy brother as he lets fly an errant icy ray.
Round 11!
Uzma Foritude Save vs Poison: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 = 21 SUCCESS!
Min Fortitude Save vs Poison, Guidance: 1d20 + 0 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 0 + 1 = 17 SUCCESS!
Both Uzma and Min feel the tingling warmth to their wounds fade to untainted pain.
Grossly outnumbered but unaware of it due to the bright haze lingering in its many eyes, the last remaining spider continues to try to leave the scene of carnage with a warm meal.
Layaali and Uzma may act! Uzma, you're still prone.
Layaali Twice-Born |
Unable to reach the spider, Layaali steps forward and places a comforting hand on Razif's shoulder.
"May Vildeis' blessings be upon you."
Casting Guidance on Razif.
GM Dinketry |
Correct; you are prone. You can crawl away, but it would provoke. Tough choke-hold spot you're in, but no one can get to that last spider with a melee weapon while you're where you are.
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid |
Seeing his position as untenable, Uzma attempts to crawl out of the way to allow his companions to face the spider...
Full defense + move back. It's either that or stand + move, which doesn't seem to me to be much better!
GM Dinketry |
Uzma attempts to crawl out of the tight spot he finds himself stuck in, defending against the incoming spider bite with Tempest!
AoO Attack vs Uzma, Total Defense, Dazzled: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 1 = 121d6 ⇒ 5 MISS!
Uzma successfully wards off the spider's lunge with a well-timed thrust of his quarterstaff!
You're still prone, Uzma, but you're out of the passageway. I've moved you on the map.
The spider swiftly advances swiftly on the ranger, assuming the movement to be that of his desired prey!
Melee Attack vs Razif, Dazzled: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 1 = 171d6 ⇒ 2 HIT! - 2 hp dmg, Razif!
Razif Foritude Save vs Poison: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 SUCCESS!
Despite its visual woes, the spider's fangs find warm flesh to puncture, but no venom pools into Razif's bloodstream.
Razif, Drael, Min, and Rab-rab may act!
Drael Kapernos |
Drael moves toward the last spider as it attempts to close in on Razif, his overhead swing connecting with a sickening crunch.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Razif al-Akkuya |
As Uzma crawls past him and the spider digs its fangs in Razif's body, a grin runs over Razif's face.
"You chose the wrong party to gnaw at, bastard.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 1 + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
He then proceeds to dig his scimitar straight through the beast's back.
GM Dinketry |
Drael steps forward and hacks into the doomed spider. As the bloodrager pulls out his axe with a shower of gore, Razif steps up and stabs home the final word. If the spider could squeal in agony, it would do so. It falls inert to the ground.
COMBAT OVER!
Min Bunnisbeldar |
Min wobbles on his feet. "I don't feel so good."
He plops down on the ground and sits with his back against the wall.
"Wow... That was really... ineffective... Do you guys.... always come so.... close to losing...?"
Min shakes his head at his sister. "Why do you... always get me.... into trouble...?"
But now he is out of strength, and much too weak to do anything else.
He lays down and tries to go to sleep.
Drael Kapernos |
As soon as the spider falls to the ground, Drael's shoulders slump. He stumbles towards the two gnomes in the corner and tries to help them move towards their blankets, We haven't had a fight that scary in a long time, I'm glad we all made it out alive.
Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali rushes over to the gnome.
"Vildeis, bless this brave soul! He embodies your teachings more than most!"
She calls out to the others over her shoulder. "Ensure the spiders are dead so I can heal all of you."
She begins to drag Min over to his blanket, then inspects his wounds, cleaning them and drawing out what poison she can.
Looking at little, worried, Rab-rab, Layaali explains, "I'll do what I can for Min, but it will take many days of bed-rest before he is back to his old self." With a gentle smile she adds, "He will be fine."
Once the spiders are (positively) dead, Layaali calls upon Vildeis to heal her companions.
Channel Energy: Healing Everyone: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Then she uses her last two healing spells.... twice on Uzma.
Healing Uzma: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Healing Uzma: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Leaving him at 16/19 hp.
Layaali then gets everyone to lay down to rest so she can tend to their wounds. Before getting started, she prays to Vildeis for guidance. She also uses her empyreal focus in order to get an additional +2 bonus on the check.
Heal Check: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 17 Passing. Everyone should recover 2 points of ability damage tonight, instead of one, and two hp per level tonight, instead of one (presuming we can actually get eight hours in, lol).
I need to tend to them constantly for those eight hours, right? I'm totally fine with that if it's necessary, and will stay up to do so. I'll have to rest after they wake up though, cause I'll be exhausted.
Presuming the tallies were correct, that should leave hp at:
Drael 16/21 hp; 4 pts STR dmg
Layaali 18/20 hp
Min 4/6 hp; 11 pts STR dmg
Rab-rab 7/11 hp
Razif 12/19 hp
Uzma 16/19 hp; 6 pts STR dmg
Drael 20/21 hp; 2 pts STR dmg
Layaali 18/20 hp - Exhausted
Min 6/6 hp; 9 pts STR dmg
Rab-rab 9/11 hp
Razif 16/19 hp
Uzma 19/19 hp; 4 pts STR dmg
Correct?
GM Dinketry |
Layaali stays up for the rest of the night, tending to the haggard remnants of the adventuring party.
GM roll: 1d20 ⇒ 2 WHEW.
Layaali, your calculations are correct. You are now exhausted.
In the morning, the gang all looks much better, though some are still ailing. Layaali, on the other hand, looks completely drained. Soon after the other party members arise, the oracle physically collapses out of exhaustion, unconscious for an hour.
Apart from Layaali, everyone else loses the fatigued condition. You've now got a choice. One hour of rest takes you back to fatigued, Layaali. You can continue the day fatigued, Layaali. Alternately, you could try to rest for the entire day, but you'd lose a day in the foothills.
Layaali Twice-Born |
As much as Layaali would like to drag herself up out of bed as soon as possible, we're definitely going to need her healing spells against whatever we fight next. As long as no one objects, Layaali's going to try to rest so she can regain her spells.
Pale, still bloody from battle, and shaking with cold from the night before, Layaali has never looked more weak and frail. She barely manages to mutter out a prayer to the Cardinal Martyr before collapsing onto the ground. Asleep on the stone, she doesn't so much as stir during the rest of the day.
Razif al-Akkuya |
"Well Mim, we had some good spats, some bad... this was definitely one of the latter.
I also agree with letting Layaali rest a little longer
Min Bunnisbeldar |
Min opens his eyes, see his sister is alright, then groans. He does not have the strength to get up. Instead he goes right back to sleep.
Rab-rab Bunnis |
"Min! It's already morning! Wake up! It's time to play."
Rab-rab crosses her arms. "Oh, Min-min!"
She looks at Razif, Uzma, and Drael. "Well, guys! What should we do while they sleep?"
GM Dinketry |
Min and Layaali seem to need to continue to rest for the entire day, leaving the remaining four adventurers free to look around the drafty chambers. The filtered light coming from the gaps in the ceiling near the corners of the room unveils a rather austere looking chamber. It appears as if elaborate friezes once covered the walls of this room, but the scouring winds have long ago eroded them into oblivion.
What would the remainder of the group like to do?
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid |
Still weakened but curious to know more about the ruins, Uzma decides to commune with the Gods for guidance...
"Beloved Sarenrae," he whispers a prayer, his voice echoing with unusual fervour even for him, "answer the prayers of your most devoted Templar. Hear the North Wind and give us guidance. We seek your light to know our path. We seek your wisdom to decide our way: should we go forward this day?"
Cast Augury
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid |
Having heard the answer of the Goddess Sarenrae, Uzma stands and proceeds to explore the hall. Assured of his safety, he ventures even deeper into the depths of the corridor...
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
GM Dinketry |
Uzma continues to confound the rest of the party members by wandering out of the hall into the room where the spiders came from without any explanation.
Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab shakes her head as the others leave her brother and Layaali.
"So irresponsible!" she exclaims.
She stays behind to take care of Min and Layaali.
Leaning over her sleeping brother she says, "This time, I'll protect you."
GM Dinketry |
Razif and Drael follow Uzma into the next room. Rab-rab shakes her head in disbelief, staying behind to watch over the slumbering Min and Layaali.
The three adventurers pass through the wide doorway clogged by spider carcasses into a forest of stone pillars: the colonnaded hall of a temple interior. Two rectangular depressions run across the pillared hall’s rubble-strewn floor, perhaps once filled with water, but now choked with spider webs. The breeze here carries the pungent stench of decay, likely coming from the numerous small and medium-sized web cocoons dangling from the wall and laying on the floor. Numerous spiders scurry around the network of webs, none bigger than a small cat, and none bold enough to mount a challenge.
Numerous gaps in the ceiling let the air and some light in, though the illumination remains dim. A single empty doorway exits the chamber to the north.
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid |
While confident that Sarenrae looks kindly upon him, Uzma nevertheless takes care as he approaches the northwest corner of the room to get a better look at the horribly-desiccated, partially-webbed corpse of a halfling.
Knowledge, Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Was the corpse's condition caused by the spiders?
GM Dinketry |
The druid, hunched over a partially-webbed package in the corner of the room, attracts the attention of Drael and Razif as they move about the pillared room. They both notice the horrid looking corpse with the strange warped limbs on the floor in front of the druid, its webbed cocoon split open. They also both notice the glint of metal from the illumination of Tempest.
GM Dinketry |
The glint comes from three separate pieces of metal wear, one of which the figure is wearing. An engraved golden pectoral mould is draped about the figure's sunken and desiccated chest. Additionally, there appears to be a copper mask and an intricate scarab badge sandwiched into the web cocoon alongside the figure.
As you manipulate the husk of a former living creature, you can hear further small metal things moving around inside the split package. You'd have to open it completely in order to determine what else is inside.
Drael Kapernos |
Drael follows Uzma towards the corpse, covering his mouth as the smell overwhelms him. I don't think that the spiders we fought earlier could have done this, there might be more around somewhere. Whatever's in that web, get it out and let's get back to the others.
Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif eyes up the corpse's items, trying to discern their worth.
Appraise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
... but draws a blank.
"I'm with Drael on this one, Uzma. I feel like delving deeper is asking for trouble. We can get in deeper soon, alright?"
GM Dinketry |
Slicing open the cocoon (you'll need a blade) reveals 82 tarnished silver pieces and further disturbing anatomy - the thing had stumpy thick legs that further confound your thoughts as to what this thing is.
Where to? Uzma, would you like to try either the Religion or Appraise check?
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid |
"I don't know what this is," Uzma admits. He raises his hands to the heavens and whispers a short prayer to Gozreh in the ancient tongue of the druids, hoping for some guidance.
