Deadly Aim and Grenades

Rules Questions

So according to the feat Deadly Aim, I can take a -2 to my attack bonus during an attack or full attack to deal additional damage equal to half my BAB bonus. The feat specifically includes the Solarian solar manifestation, and excludes spells or other special abilities, but doesn't note to exclude Grenades.

Now on 183, Grenades specifies that penalties to your attack roll also decrease the DC of your Grenades.

If I understand this right, that means a level 4 soldier (16 dex), with a "Frag Grenade I" could use deadly aim to throw his grenade at a -2 into a square, which would then deal 1d6+2 damage to all targets in a 15ft range with a Reflex DC 12 (10+1 (half Item level) +3 (dex)-2 (Deadly Aim)) for half damage.

This also means that if I full attack (same character situation) with deadly aim, and throw 2 grenades at 1d6+2 damage each, and the enemies would have to save twice: reflex dc 8 (10+1 (half item level)+3 (dex)-2 Deadly Aim - 4 Full Attack) or take full damage per failed throw.

Am I understanding this correctly, or is there anything I missed?

In starfinder you always round down unless otherwise noted, so 1/2 of 1 (the Frag Grenade I level) becomes a +0 for the purposes of calculating save DCs. Your first example would be DC 11 (10 +0 (level) +3 (dex) -2 (Deadly Aim). In your second example the DC would be 7 (10 +0 (level) +3 (dex) -2 (Deadly Aim) -4 (full attack).

Other than that, I believe everything is correct. :)

I knew about the round down quip, but for some reason I assumed there was a minimum of 1.

The Deadly Aim feat does actually say "attacks deal additional damage equal to half your base attack bonus (minimum 1)."

So at least in this case you're right and there is a minimum of 1. Tbh I think most things that say half level or wotnot generally have a minimum 1.

Personally, Deadly Aim is good for Soldiers, but for most others it would provide only a +1 to damage at a -2 penalty to attack until a base attack bonus of 4 is reached (at level 6) which makes it imo not a very good trade-off for character to get before level 6. As such I might house-rule a round UP in this case, making it more beneficial to non-soldiers.

Even for soldiers this is a 'meh' option. I have it and rarely ever use it as it's penalty applies cumulatively to the penalties from a full attack. I would rather make 3 attacks with a -6 penalty than 1 attack with a -2 penalty every single time. The extra damage is negligible considering that weapon specialization is much more damage. So, if you are ANY class firing a weapon, it's better to fire twice with a -4 penalty than once with a -2 penalty that does 1/2 BaB damage. If both shots land, then weapon specialization alone will do more damage than 1/2 BaB. Furthermore, the extra damage isn't going to make or break a fight at higher levels. 10 more damage for a 10% higher miss change (misses do no damage) is just a bad bargain. I think this was meant for cleaning up waves of lesser enemies with a ranged weapon that can hit multiple targets. That being said, just get your spell caster to nuke them and save you the feat. Skip it.. it's garbage.

Sometimes you have to move into position before firing though, so it will let you get more out of that one attack.
