It's very early in the new board roll-out, too early to judge much (though I find them aesthetically appealing).

One thing I do NOT like is no longer being able to click on my name up top to access my various game threads.

Is there a way to make the text bigger without zooming my browser? The words are really small.

The Exchange

WOW! That's all I can say guys! WOW! Looks great!

Looks nice. Like any change, it'll take a bit to get used to.

The Gamer Life section seems to be empty? And doesn't show up on the top level http://paizo.com/community/forums page.

My account-->organized play link doesn't work.

Shadow Lodge

If you look here (link) you'll see they're aware there are some problems and will fix 'em tomorrow. So list what changed just in case, but be patient so they can look it all over in the morning.

The new look is interesting.

It's different and I don't like it. I'm afraid of changes. :P

I don't mind changes if they make things better. I don't see how this has made anything any better. Sure, it looks good but I just can't as easily navigate the threads as I was doing before. I have to do a search for the Off Topic thread (one of my favorites) if I want to go directly to it.

I'm afraid this is going to drive a great many of us away.

Let's see...

Breaking it down into my initial impressions...
Pros:

I love how sleek everything looks.

It's way easier to see the important stuff for first-time visitors, and simpler to navigate overall, if perhaps missing a few pages (but that's going to be fixed!)

Cons:
I miss the sidebar. It let me keep track of the latest threads and provided a bit of a break for the (now really long) message entries.

Links.... yeah. You're fixing them, but I figured I should mention them.

The text seems a little small? I guess you could just zoom in on the browser, but then everything starts to look crowded.

Along those same lines, the messageboards just feel a bit more empty than before. I think its a combination of removing the sidebars and making the text smaller.

My initial impression is that the boards seem to have way less color in them than before. Not sure why, but it kind of makes everything look the same and just a little bland.

The font also feels different. Not a huge fan, but it's not terrible, either. Just sort of... eh. Mediocre? I liked the old one better.

Different:
I suppose I'll have to re-learn how to navigate the site without the sidebars :( But that's just a learning-curve thing, and not actually something bad about the redesign, but more of just an inherent part of any redesign.

I'm... not sure how I feel about Aliases, PFS characters, and standard messageboard names all being the same color, but it is different. I don't really love it, but that's because I tend to dislike change as a whole.

Overall? I don't hate it, I don't love it. It'll take a bit of adjustment, but overall I think it looks good, if potentially a little homogeneous. Fixing the links (and maybe adding a bit of color into the messageboards again?), making the text bigger, and either adding a page or section that does what the sidebar used to do (show the most recent threads) would go a long way to improving my personal reaction to the new site. But that's just me. Maybe other people love the new, much more black-and-white smaller text and thought the sidebar cluttered things.

EDIT: Also, how do you get to the blog? I... can't find it.
EDIT 2: (I'm an idiot)

It's a new look. Not a fan of the font, which is hard to read. Dislike how hard it is to navigate compared to the old version.

For me the huge black bar is aesthetically displeasing.

On a more helpful note, there are funky sizing and proportion issues on Chrome.

If it isn't broke don't fix it....in other words I really don't like it.

I can't imagine how much work it is to take such a cobbled-together-as-we-go website and bash it into a sleek, professional looking shiny new website - without losing all the functionality etcetera we've come to expect (and break, from time to time). Thanks very much, IT team - I'm soooo glad I've got my job not yours!

I'm sure I'll be peppering Erik, Chris, Vic and anyone else I can think of with dumb questions in coming days. Like - how do I get to "Off Topic" and so on forums?

Please don't take those questions as complaints though - it looks great. :)

I like the new look!

I have a couple nice-to-have requests though:

  • It would be nice to be able to easily navigate back and forth between the store blog and the Paizo blog. On the old site layout there was a link between the two as tabs at the top of the page
  • This one would probably take more doing and is probably already on the long term road map, but it would also be nice if the site were more mobile-friendly - especially the drop down menus

Overall, looks nice! Much more up to date!

I'm not sure I like the new design, but it was most certainly broken Dragon78. They needed to do a LOT of work under the hood to make the kinds of improvements that needed to be made. That sort of thing is hard to sell to the higher ups in any organization unless you do something pretty with it - redesign (and frankly I suspect some of the appearance was tied deep into the codebase).

So I guess I'm saying they needed to do something and I'm more interested in the under-the-hood changes. For that we have to wait for the bug fixes, but I think I'm going to settle into this well once it's all done.

So yeah, Steve's right - there's gonna be a lot of "where's this" in the coming days. Treat 'em like bugs, and let the designers know. They'll fix 'em - or let us know it's not going to be fixed. Then we can gnash our teeth. :)

I can't seem to find a campaign tab anymore. If it's still there then someone please point it out to me but if I have to search for each of my campaigns whenever I want to check up on them... I might just have to drop it, that's just way to cumbersome.

The Exchange

Is there a way to get to the Venture-Officer boards? Used to be a tab but I'm not finding it.

For the time being, you should also be able to reach your campaigns by clicking "My Account" > "My Profile" and selecting the "Campaigns" tab.

Thanks guys, legends.

I really hope there's an option to use the old look. This new one... it's not doing it for me. I'm not seeing anything it actually adds to the site either(especially without the sidebar that was useful for keeping tabs on threads).

I know the messageboard tabs for Organized Play, Online Campaigns, etc were visible when I was doing testing on the new build. I'll check in with everyone tomorrow about the status on those, as I know how important they are for folks. Thank you for your patience in the mean time where I figure out where they decided to disappear to.

The new look is definitely more in keeping with current web design. It's just going to take a bit for me to figure out where to find everything now.

We'll definitely be taking in user feedback on providing a better experience, so hang on if things are a bit choppy. I suspect for the next day or two we'll be in heavy review mode to catch anything missing. (We already know of a few spots).

Everyone on the team is pretty exhausted from today though, so I suspect we'll be a little quiet for the rest of the night. :) Thanks for your patience in the mean time!

The entire Gamer Life/Off Topic area is missing from the main forums page listing.

I'm not a fan of the new layout personally. Seconding the dislike of the black top bar as aesthetically unpleasant; the loss of link and username coloration is confusing at best; the tiny font combined with the widened field of text is headache-inducing; and the loss of the sidebars full of links is a regretful omission.

I feel bad having nothing but negative feedback after what was clearly a lot of hard work... but yeah, that's how I feel. Maybe I'll take a few days off the forum and come back later to see how it's coming along and I'll feel more positive about it, but for the moment.... yeah.

All that work and you didn't even make it responsive? When I resize my window, nothing moves!

I do miss the sidebar. It's where I tended to notice new interesting threads.

I generally like the new look, but it would be great if we could resize the font. Some of us are closer to 50 than 15....

....but the previous website was broke. Half the fanbase thought this site held together with spit and baling wire. The other half thought that Paizo left out the baling wire. We had constant site issues, rolling forum blackouts and instability. This is much better. We need this upgrade, we really do.

HELPFUL FEEDBACK

1) This is very pretty.

2) We need easier links to the forums. Finding my way back to website feedback should not be this hard, and let’s face it: as a PBP’er and near permanent forum resident, I am pretty much an expert in ways to navigate your site. But good site navigation is a friendly thing, so let’s get those links back.

3) Yep, the font is now officially too small. My poor aged gnomish eyes are squinting, and I am having to blow up everything as I view it on my iPad. Can we go just a tad larger, please?

4) The site seems more responsive — Yay! It’s a lot less poky and that’s nice.

Hugs,

Agreed. I want the sidebars back!

Nice new layout, although I cut my teeth on the IBM 3277 green screen terminal, so this will take some getting used to.

Had to change one link. The one that gets me to the top level of the forums with "focus" on. My other link to my campaigns works out of the box.

Good job folks. Go home and get some rest and come back tomorrow for the little problems.

It still seems to have the issue where a post you've made shows up as "(new)" until you go back and refresh that thread.

WHOA! I like it

Bugs:
Links not differentiated visually

Character names not differentiated with colors

No way to quickly see if you have new DMs when you first open the site.

Landing page needs to have a direct link to forums.

Complaint:
Type too small for normal visual acuity. And no adaptation for visually impaired users. This is the 21st Century, using computers. You can make your site much more friendly to people with access problems.

Nice update! I particularly like that new products are front and center and by month. I didn't find it productive to have to dig through the site to see what I needed to buy next...

Only gripe is that the font is too small for those approaching bifocal age.

I can't figure out how to get to player companions. If people can't get to the links to buy stuff, you need to fix it ASAP.

Oh dear. We cannot seem to see PMs from our Campaign Page. Since some tables are still mustering for OutPost (our newest Play-by-Post convention) that could be disastrous for us.

Can you guys tweak things so that PMs are visible no matter where you are on the site?

+1 for bringing back the sidebar(s) and for bumping up the font size a couple points, please (and thank you).

And, please make the "threads I've already opened" differentiation more clear.

Sadly, it's the spam posts that brought this to my attention.

In looking at the front page of the forums, there is no way to tell which spam I've already flagged and which is new.

So far, I definitely preferred the old navigation. Have to see how it turns out after bug fixes, though -- after all, that did wonders for the Advanced Class Guide . . . .

Can we go back to how the boards looked in 1978? ;-)

On a more serious note, thanks for dragging the website kicking and screaming into the XXI century and I hope that you'll follow the one and only logical step, namely of doing away with the forum.

Why would you feel that would be an improvement?

I think there should button on top to get directly to message boards, as of now you have to click community and after getting to community page you have to click forums, so thats two clicks instead of one

I have 3 things i'd like to see, all of which may have been previously mentioned:
1) A single click to get to my profile from the front page
2) A single click to get to the top of the forum from the front page
3) Links inside posts that are visually different from normal text

Honorable mention: Bring back the sidebar with the most recent forum posts.

Otherwise, I'm solidly in the "meh" camp on changes.

Apart from PFS (which likely should retain its forum for obvious reasons) and PbP, the boards are pretty much down to jaded, hyperinvested nerds like myself. Which means Paizo is spending disproportionately lot of time and energy policing the boards while getting mostly grar and entitlement in return.

The way I see it, most casual non-invested gamers have shifted towards discussing their gaming on Facebook and other social media. I've used to have to spend an hour catching up with a day's worth of posts at Paizo boards, nowadays it's 10 minutes or so. At the same time, Paizo's business seems going strong, so I guess it's more a change in how people chose to interact with the company and less a reduction in overall scope of the business.

That's likely why WotC and BioWare axed their boards, and I believe Paizo should follow them.

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, because that's why Paizo became great, being just like every other company and supporting 4e and not going their own path.

Oh.

Wait a minute...

5e called, it's still the most popular, best selling fantasy RPG around. Your point?
