Description
This primitive hyena mask is usually made of leather, but may be made of soft metal like copper or carved from an animal’s skull. The wearer gains a +2 competence bonus on Handle Animal and Heal checks. The wearer can smell when nearby creatures are in heat or otherwise especially fertile (creatures such as humans that can breed at any time of the year always smell fertile unless they are barren).

If Lamashtu is the wearer’s patron, the mask counts as an unholy symbol and a hole for a third eye appears in its forehead. The wearer can use summon monster II once per day to summon a fiendish hyena, which obeys the wearer as if they shared a common language. The wearer may interbreed with animals within one size category of the wearer’s size. The offspring of such unions are members of the mother’s race with the fiendish simple template and bear monstrous aesthetic features of the father’s race.

Q: can i use the demon make to find invisibility enemies?

You can know they're near if they fit the conditions of the mask, but you wont know what square they're in.

I don't think it grants the Scent special rule. I think that it just grants the option to know additional things about creatures you can already detect.

But invisibility wouldn't stop the effect, so if you located an invisible creature via other means, you'd be able to smell if they were in heat/fertile.

As an aside, I love this item, but I wouldn't let players use one. Well, unless I was running a really weird campaign, I think this is sort of magical item that derails plots and makes some players quesy. Maybe with the right group.

I would treat it as Scent, tho its wierd it does not grant it explicitly.

Mask is for giving glory to Lamashtu! Make pig-man and man-pig! How you think Goblin Snakes got started? Can Mask find invisible creatures? Probably not, else all human "heroes" would start wearing it and appropriate us goblin culture. They not impregnate animals, just rob Evil item to increase their own privilege.

Any DM who not allow this item ban lots of fun. How you can ride around on animal with head like yours unless you use Demon Mother's Mask or maybe you're minotaur? Any DM who let this item grant Scent probably going too far in other direction though. Smelling fertile creatures seem like fun side effect, not main purpose of item. Lamashtu not want you to waste your efforts to increase her glory. If creature not fertile though you can eat it and give glory to Venkelvore! (2 of 3 F's of goblin religion - "fecund" not just for orcs anymore)
