I was wondering what action is required to go between welding the chain one-handed and two-handed. I was thinking, if I am welding it two-handed and needed to free an arm to use it for something else.

A free action, as normal for switching between wielding a one-handed weapon one-handed or two-handed. ^_^

Slightly off topic, but if you want to save a feat, consider getting a Chain Coat
