and remember, if you die, you die.

Is this something were teams are formed to take on a dungeon? A single person takes on a dungeon? Multiple people go into a dungeon and may wind up attacking each other?

It's a team based death sport between you and the DJ, the DJ is the dungeon judge, the DJ creates the dungeon filling it with traps, treasures and monsters. Teams are not pitted directly against each other, instead they are timed or scored events.

Edit, that is not to say you will never face other adventurers, there's a whole world outside the Extreme Dungeon Crawl.

So the dungeon crawl itself is free of adventurer vs. adventurer, but once you leave you have the chance of dealing with miscreants?

Will mojo be in effect?

Pretty much. The Mojo system will be used but it takes more than just being slapped together last minute to have a mojo pool. Mojo represents time spent training with each other, knowing each other's moves, etc. My intention is for you to be an agent's pet project coming together just in time for their first crawl.

EDIT: Additionally, you probably won't have to worry about inter team grudges too much. All teams must be members of the Adventurer's league in good standing and there's a certain camaraderie between Xcrawl teams.

Curious question. These XCrawl rules like no guns focused characters and certain spells banned, are they your rules, or are they the official adventure rules? As well as any other rules. In other words, none of these rules are your house rules, but the rules of XCrawl.

Edit: looking at the name, are you the guy who invented this?

They are official rules. Extreme Dungeon Crawl forbids guns so gun based characters are pretty much non starters. The spell list is also straight out part of the laws of the nation. Of course some laws are meant to be broken.

Uh oh. I forgot to mention no necromancers are allowed in the crawl either. (Their guild provides undead for the games and so it's considered a conflict of interest.)

EDIT: Nope. Just a fan of the setting, an ex player of the setting, and a hopeful GM provided I pull enough interest.

Okay, so if I ever wanted to run this in the future, would I have to homebrew anything, like my own dungeons, or do they provide adventures from like 100s to choose from? Or do I have to subscribe to it, and they run these like once a year, month or something and hand them all out to all the DMs.

Hardbacks of the core rulebooks? Always been interested in extreme dungeoning.

there are a couple dungeons for Maximum Xcrawl, and seven or eight for the original which would need to be updated. Beyond that you would need to build your dungeons just like in a homebrew campaign. Should I take this as you aren't interested in playing?

I am actually, big fan of dungeon crawls. Just can't believe I have never heard of Xcrawl, it will take me a day or two to put something together though and read up on all the rules.

Edit: Okay so the key to this game is to stat drop, for example fighter, you don't need cha, you might not need int (depends if you want skills) and if you are going to stat drop wis keep distance from creatures that have spells that affect your wisdom. All Paizo archtypes allowed that don't evolve around guns?

For now yes. However certain archetypes may just not fit the world. I can't know all the archetypes after all. And don't forget that their are Xcrawl specific classes in those books.

Edit: Oh, and the key isn't to stat dump. For instance one of the ways you get famous is to grandstand in front of a live audience. Which is a charisma skill. Fame helps you get to new crawls, get endorsement deals maybe land a part in a movie. It is your choice however and you can gain fame without it.

So I'm confused by the core rulebook. You can do stuff illegal in the crawl as long as you are caught? The fighter has proficiency in firearms, but they are illegal in the crawl, so they add this in in case you are good enough to do it without the camera seeing you? It is wrong to attack a reef and stuff, but you can do it off camera?

Edit: the races, can we take alt race traits? Obviously the book adds some extra stuff to the races

From what I've seen it doesn't remove any traits so yes you can take alt traits. And no, those skills aren't for you to cheat in Xcrawl, it's because the world isn't just the crawl. Travelling from city to city is dangerous, thanks to dragons there are large areas of undeveloped wilderness were monsters still roam. Some teams may decide that robbing a dragon might be worth the risk, motels along highways are fortresses.

I am a fan of dungeon crawls. Most of my primary choices are off the table (already playing them), so....something new...thinking and interested.

Edit: I actually have a Mesmerist that has a lot of the things that I like my dungeon-crawlers to have...

Can we pick up exotic weapons out of pathfinder? I'm considering building an elven un-rogue with a curve blade or branched spear.

Are we observing the rules for performance combat, by the way?

Well draw him up and we'll see.

What exactly do you mean pick up exotic weapons? The proficiency or the actual weapon? And what's performance combat. I'm not familiar with it but it sounds interesting.

Will you allow Traits? Drawback for a 3rd?

Yes.

This is Dorian Grey. I would like to submit him; after leveling him.

Thanks for running.

Hmm, looks good, but what's up with the pocket watch? You have it listed as a tool for intimidation, and your background will need to be reworked given the setting.

The proficiency is rather moot without the weapon itself, no?

I was trying to ask if I can use the elven branched spear from the Melee Tactics Toolbox.

As for performance combat, here's a link.

It's a keepsake of his fathers. He uses it as a focus for intimidation.

No. There's already systems in place for winning over the crowd in Xcrawl. Performace Combat will not be happening. You can get your spear though.

Virgil Geryon wrote:

How, it's a watch.

Alright putting character together now. In PFS, all requirement to get to a prestige are applied, except for the special ones. Like, I want to become a Hell Knight, do I have to slay a Devil with HD greater than my own, PFS doesn't?

Missed my edit time, but here is the character, let me know if I'm missing anything.
About the Hellknight, the only problem with it, is that Xcrawl features no Hellknight armor and to use his level 10 ability, you'd have to be wearing it. Unless you'd allow it with fullplate, the most expensive armor in Xcrawl.

I picture him using it like a hypnotic charm.

Given that Animal Companions are banned in the Crawl can I assume the same applies to Summoners Eidolons?

I believe that his crunch is up to date. I like his versatility.
Any questions please ask.

I can change the Intimidation tool, but I liked the flavor of it.

example:
The dark green 1/2 orc smiles wickedly, lazily swinging his brightly polished gold pocket watch; the flickering fire light from the lantern creating dancing images of devils to your eyes.
You don't really think that you'll win, do you!

Yes you would have to meet all the requirements. But Hellknights don't really work in the world of Xcrawl.

Yes, you can assume that.

** spoiler omitted **

Please do. While I understand what you're going for a watch is not particularly intimidating and allowing you to buy it as an intimidation tool bypasses it's 250 gold price tag.

I will replace it (actually didn't realize there is a pocketwatch for 250gp).

Starting wealth equals 500gp plus 150gp for Cha 17?

Yes. That said, money won in the crawl is the only money you can use to purchase equipment. So if you want to buy a pocket watch, I'd suggest not using these initial funds.

Hi DJ TPK,

Would you be interested in an Asian martial artist character, a la Bruce Lee, who makes his way to North America? Haven't figured out if it's going to be Monk, Brawler, XCrawl Brawler, or the like, but just wanted to bounce the concept to see if it would fit or if I should go a different direction.

I realize I may have gone a bit off the beaten path here, but I could not resist submitting him. I did not see any mention of tieflings, but given the Mages Guild rules I hope Ranveer's awkward position is more or less appropriate. Not actually sure he is a tiefling in the setting, since he is a Rakshasa spawn, and I am sort of assuming they dwell in India - Ranveer is a Sikh name meaning Great Warrior, the interwebs tell me.

@DJ TPK I do fully appreciate I am taking a bit of a punt submitting him, so no hard feelings if you feel he is inappropriate for the game, etc.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, its the spawn of hell who drinks so well! Everyone's favourite half cat demon Ranveer Ortenza! Brought to you by Meowmix! He wants liquor, he wants beer, vodka, vodka he makes it disappear!"

--------------------------

A rakishly handsome man with leopard-like ears and tail, wearing a set of stylized armor emblazoned with the NAE crest, bounds into the arena executing a double flip before landing gracefully and bowing to the audience. Grinning broadly he pulls a hip flask from his bandolier and takes a long swig before projecting his rumbling purr of a voice out to the crowd,

"How are you doing Citizens of the great New American Empire! Ranveer is ready to Crawl into your hearts once more, I would try your beds, but they say is forbidden, so I drink instead! Today I shall show you such deeds of derring do they will boggle your minds, stir your spirits, and pop a cocktail umbrella in them - for a touch of class! Today's menu features orc kebab, feisty goblins fritters, and a flambe of DJ! Only kidding about that last one, I hear DJ Vile End is a class act, and a rising star, don't set the hounds on me DJ the death I am unafraid of, but with it necessarily comes sobriety - the horror!"

Background:
Ranveer is the result of the unsanctioned summoning of a Rakshasa, and was only able to be born because his mother, Helena Ortenza, signed him over to an aristocratic breeder in return for a reduction of her lengthy sentence by the Wizards Guild. Fortunately the Breeder, Lady Kellerin, was charmed by the tiefling babe whose animalistic features seemed more adorable than demonic and she treated him somewhere between a son and a pet eventually using her influence to enable him to participate as a Crawler rather than as a Monster. Nowadays Ranveer and Lady Kellerin are drinking buddies,

Ranveer is acutely aware that his, mostly, free status hangs upon ensuring the fans and the aristocracy see him as a loveable rogue rather than a demonspawn. He washes any resentment away with copious amounts of alcohol and for the most part embraces his role as an over the top swashbuckling caricature. Even in the boff leagues his unique appearance and swaggering style earned him some endorsements, and after enough vodka even eating the occasional tin of catfood was not too disgusting.

Ranveer's major goals are to be loved by the crowd, and to get as many endorsements as possible, especially for alcoholic drinks. He is in love with Sarah Kellerin, them niece of his trainer, and hopes to one day earn enough status in the Crawl to marry her. Lady Kellerin has suggested he might one day become a DJ, and the idea is growing on him the more he considers it.

Unbeknownst to Ranveer his Father, the Rakshasa Kaliman, has long been involved with Lady Kellerin, romantically when she was younger, backing her in taking control of her house over several better placed rivals, and now providing her with rare monsters.

Okay, I need to point out, your sports stars not true adventurers who need to prepare for long periods in the wilds. Most Xcrawl dungeons have break rooms with a medic, showers, food, etc.

I know many adventurers forget about the basics and I'm pleased to see that many of you haven't. They're just not so basic here.

Actually I love him. His background probably needs a bit of tweaking but other than that it's a go. I am curious why you mentioned the mage's guild though. They're not the court system

Bring him on in. Many foreign Xcrawl players do try and play in the American league because that's where it started and where it's still the most popular.

Excellent, still perusing the books, but let me know what needs adjusting and I will amend accordingly.

It mentioned in the rulebook that Summoning, as in Planar Binding, etc., not normal summons, was prohibited by the Mages Guild - something about only high level members who had to be heavily supervised - so I sort of extrapolated that extra dimensional beings and their progeny would be treated with great wariness. I did read something about stringent punishments by the Mages Guild for breaking their rules - on tablet with spotty WiFi at the moment so its hard to double check. His mother was I imagine a high level, but low ranked Wizard being harassed by a higher ranked guild member and having his child was the Rakshasa's price for solving her dilemma.

His Father is mostly there because India sounded cool, and I did not want a snake themed character. Naga and Rakshasa Rhajahs scheming it out for domination should be a thing. Not expecting anything to come of it, Rakshasas think in centuries and PBP takes years so the two are likely incompatible ;) But the hint the rulebook dropped about DJs considering doing a "live" XCrawl in India sounded awesome :)

Also in my previous post that was meant to be DJ Vile Ent, damn it autocorrect!

Ahh to be fair, Vile End is a perfectly acceptable name. But the things needing changed are small things like it being the North American Empire and the lady probably wouldn't have been a breeder. All that can be fixed in post production. For instance, would you be interested in taking a level or two of professional monster?

Got it, would she not be a breeder because of gender, or social position? And could you tell me where the professional monster class is? I cannot seem to locate it, it would make sense but without seeing it I do not know if it would sync well with Swashbuckler.

This starting soon? I'm wanting to be a Keel, just while trying to avoid party fights, unless the DJ thinks that is a bad idea.

Hmm, I was away from my books so it was just a thought, it's on page 117 of the Maximum Xcrawl Core Rulebook, generally it's an NPC thing and looking at it I don't think it's worth anything besides flavor in your case. It would probably be social position, a noble with her resources would probably buy her way into a DJ position if she were interested in being involved in the games.

I would suggest you came under her care fairly early as your mother would likely have been executed. Perhaps you're an actual member of her family. Just a thought.

Glade Wolf wrote:

Semi soon. And yes, you can be a heel, it doesn't mean you can't cooperate with the party, just that when you're in persona you're one of the bad boy type jocks. Like Happy Gilmore.

Well I always intended it to have been a taken away at birth scenario. How about making her an unsuccessful DJ then, someone who runs lower level boffo games and has never quite had the charisma, or ruthlessness to move up into the big leagues. I do not want to make her family, because part of the reason Ranveer is like he is, a shameless alcoholic self deprecating bag of neurosies hidden behind bluster and a smile, is because he has always been treated as inferior, not unkindly, but as something less than human, etc. This is a man who would advertise kitty litter, because you cannot drink pride.

DJ Inda Kisser?

Your backstory your choice. And man, I wish I'd had you around when I was naming this alias. All in all sounds good.

I'll make a backstory if needed, but I got the impression this was mostly dungeon crawls with a minimal roleplay, and some outside world exploration.

Oh no no no. there's plenty of roleplaying to do, it's a very rich world and I intend to use it.

Alright, provided I'm not blind and missing someone, our Roster of possibles is Ranveer and Geryon, while we have an earth kineticist joining me from a game we play in together.

So we've got A mesmerist who can handle the specialist duties, a swashbuckler who can provide frontline, and a kineticist for our blaster, wish we had more entries but not bad so far.

H m m.

Lemme bang my head against a table until I come up with something cool. Gimme a day or two.

And with my Hypnotic Stare, my min damage on my target is 10; not bad, but I need to get my attack a bit higher....flanking...lol.

I'm getting my character together and will have something at the latest Saturday, probably sooner. Unchained Monk 1 / Athlete 2, a martial artist that will be grappling, punching, and roundhouse kicking his way to glory!

It says in the books that starting characters are expected tonnage their own home, a selection of civilian clothing, and Guild fees paid for a year - I am paraphrasing, but should be pretty close. Will this be the case for us?

Perhaps we might be better off considering some kind of team home? Sort of like The Avengers, as a way to both integrate the team and allow for easier cohesive RP between Crawls, though I appreciate much of the mundane stuff is recommended to be skimmed over quickly. Something like an Agent put the team together and sets us all up in a Mansion.

I suppose we would need a team name to... The Unstoppable Force? I like a bit of braggadocio, and its certainly aspirational. I could see an announcer bellowing,

"And last, but not least, Ladies and Gentlemen, the one the only Unstoppable Fooooorce! A bold claim for a bold, will they be entitled to keep their name after facing DJ Murder Crow's gauntlet of terror, or will the lethal DJ prove to be the Immovable Object for this fledgling team?! Tune in tonight at 7 to find out! Now here is Jeff Derrmer with a break down of the stats for DJ Murder Crows and the teams, and Mandra Tally with the odds!"

@DJ TPK also how do we generate HP? Apologies if I have managed to miss it.

Also background edited to make Lady Kellerin a washed up DJ, and minor edits to gear removing bedroll and rations.

Yes. It is the same for you. As for mansions. Hahahahahaha no. The Agent isn't going to put himself on that kind of line for a bunch of newbies. After your first crawl you are more than welcome to posit that to your team the survivors though. I'd suggest maybe a tour bus to begin with though.

As to HP I knew I was missing something. Full HP for first three levels.
