Card Guild Guide v5: Ultimate decks

Card Guild Guide p.7 wrote:

If your character is from an Ultimate Add-On Deck, you may add the cards from any 1 Class Deck.

p.6 mentions that any Character Deck and Ultimate Add-On deck also count as a class deck.

1) Does this mean that an Ultimate Add-On deck can include another Ultimate Add-On deck as its 1 "Class Deck"?
2) If 1 is true, does this mean that an Ultimate Add-On deck can include another copy of the same Ultimate Add-On deck as its 1 "Class Deck"?

Given the bullet point immediately above that one, I suspect that the intent is you are not allowed to mash two Ultimate Add-On decks together (so you pair one Ultimate with one non-Ultimate deck).

As-written, I can see two ways to parse it, neither of which match the suspected intent I wrote above. The key text is also on page 6 (italics mine): "A number of other decks count as Class Decks for this requirement; see the table on this page." -- what requirement is this? That is answered two paragraphs above (italics original): "Each player needs a copy of the Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild Guide (the document you’re reading right now), a Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Class Deck, and a character built using that deck."

The ambiguity lies in that statement: when the guide refers to Class Deck, does it only include that table for the purpose of what you need to bring, or is that table included whenever the words Class Deck are used elsewhere in the Guide? If it is inclusive, then the answer to both of your questions is yes. If it is exclusive, then how things work if you use an Ultimate Add-On deck as your main deck gets even weirder, in that you can only pair it with actual Class Decks, and not (for example) the Hells Vengeance Character Decks or Occult Adventures Character Decks.

The exclusive reading (the table only counts for the purposes of "What You Need to Bring" and no other sections) leads to nonsensical exclusions later on, as I see no reason why, if you're playing Enora from the Ultimate Magic Add-On Deck, that you would be able to include cards from the Wizard Class Deck into your class deck box, but would be unable to include cards from the Occult Adventures Character Deck.

The inclusive reading (every mention of Class Deck in the guide includes the products listed in the table) leads to strange inclusions later on, such as being able to use two copies of the Ultimate Magic Add-On Deck when playing Enora.

Personally, I would like to see it be clarified that you are meant to use one Add-on deck and one character/class deck. Two Add-on Decks will likely include too many powerful options and end up stronger than all other options, and no one should be using two of exactly the same deck, because that's just lame.

This is by far the best reason I as usual fully agree with CartManBeck :-)

We will replace that rule with "If your character is from an Ultimate Add-On Deck, you may add the cards from any 1 Class Deck or Character Deck (but not a Character Add-On Deck, another Ultimate Add-On Deck, or any other type of deck)."

I think this is too trivial to roll out an updated Guide, but I have made the change so it will go out with the next substantial update.

So in theory, we can play our Samurai with the Ultimate Combat deck, mixed with any other deck (Fighter, Magus, Goblins Burn!, etc)?

Yeah - you're not limited to theory either, you can do that in practice, too.

Tales is probably a good addition to any of these decks for the synergetic allies alone.
