Need ideas for creating and managing my cult

I am a level 14 asmodeus cleric with rank 20 in leadership with a ring of ecclesiarch and I wish to start a cult to increase my influence and power. But I need ideas on how to :
-manage this cult
-how to keep it secretive,
-how to recruit members
-Can I base it around me as a God or would asmodeus punish me ?

Basically how would you go about creating a cult ?


Asmodeus is the deity of Contracts, Pride, Slavery and Tyranny...

So...
Slavery, Tyranny, Pride, Run it like you own it.
Pride, Your group should stand out, as a shining example of charity (not as what it really is).
Contracts, Slavery, Find people that you can secretly create a problem for, so you can “help” them with removing the problem, as long as they sign up for it.
Pride, Never put yourself over your DEITY!!!

Create an idol (see Occult Realms) and start channeling your cult's power into it through homage and sacrifices.

For managing your cult:

Recruit into your cult people from different walks of life. Get a few peasants. Why? They'll like having power they never had before. That will inspire loyalty to you as you give them power beyond their wildest dreams. Get a few merchants on your side. They'll make generous donations so you can have a proper shrine/temple. Make sure they too want to move up in the world, whether within their guilds, their home cities, or within the political arena. Pick a few nobles who want to be more, be better. Minor count? Nah. You want to be at least a duke, if not Lord of the Western Marches. We'll help you with that. Solve their problems...for a price. Do those favors, and you'll have your first recruits. When these people get a bit of power, they won't want it known where it came from...and you'll own them.

Your cult needs a symbol, something brash and unique to catch people's attention. Something like...

Use your adventuring money to open up a bank and entrap the farmers and lords into predatory lending practices and reverse mortages!


Kind of depends on how much leg work you want to do. And how much hand waving your GM allows vs how much book work the two of you have to do.
