Inquisitor / Royal Accuser for an archer...

Advice

I have weighed the advice given to me earlier, and I'm thinking that a pure Inquisitor is better than anything dipping Zen Archer Monk will get me.

So pure Inquisitor for this archer. The Archetypes that ditch Solo Tactics and Teamwork feats are most appealing for an archer.

Preacher helps the whole party, or can, with his reroll stuff.
Tactical Leader would be better for a Cavalier multi class.
And now, the Royal Accuser gets the Ranger's Favored Enemy class feature (@ LVL 3/9/15), which would actually help an archer quite a bit, I would imagine.

Probably going with a Sacred Tattoo Half Orc, Fate's Favored, and Magical Knack to work with Divine Favour. And hopefully working up to the Greater Named Bullets.

Take Weapon Focus before Rapid Shot, Rapid Shot before Deadly Aim, then Many Shot and Clustered Shots.

Does this sound about right?

I generally do point blank shot, precise shot, rapid shot, many shot, deadly aim, then whatever else.

Also, with limited Feats, and the archery feats taking up most of the feats available, are Extra or Extended Bane feats advised?

I was also pointed towards Deific Obedience for Erastile, and Diverse Obedience for the Evangelist benefits, giving WIS-mod to ATK and DMG within 30'.

Feats are going to be few and far between, so I don't know which direction to go with the few free feat slots I will have to take things not directly related to archery.

Unless you do the evangelist prestige class, you won't get wis to dmg until lvl 20. With 9 levels of evangelist, you can get it at level 14.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Teamwork feats are still worth considering even on an archer. Coordinated Shot, Covering Fire, Enfilading Fire, Friendly Fire Maneuvers, Volley Fire, and Target of Opportunity are all designed for an archer. Also many of the teamwork feats can be useful for other than just offensive combat. Allied Spellcaster is useful for overcoming spell resistance. Shake it off gives you a bonus to all your saves. Shield Caster gives you a bonus to concentration checks.

Nicholas Storm, I carefully read the Deific Obedience and Diverse Obedience feats, and I don't think they are worth it.

Mysterious Stranger, I keep coming across Preacher builds for archery, because everyone seems to agree that the teamwork feats are quite underwhelming as an archer. The Preacher's reroll stuff would be handy and could help the whole party.

The Royal Accuser can choose from Humanoid Shape shifters, Humanoid Orcs, Aberrations, Dragons, and Undead for their favored enemies. Which is only useful in certain campaigns against those enemies.

I don't know, the Coordinated Shot feat does everything Enfilading Shot does, and more. Adding to the ATK roll every time a teammate threatens your target is legit. And that would be beneficial regardless of the type of enemy, and regardless of any flanking.

Favored Enemy is situational, as well, but extra damage to dragons and undead definitely seems like it would be nice any time you encounter them.

I have some time to figure it out.

Do the Solo Tactics and teamwork feats end up helping the Inquisitor archer for those who have played one?

@ OP: Perhaps I've misunderstood how Magical Knack works, but I don't see how it helps you w/ Divine Favor unless you have multi classed and thereby lost a caster level or two.

@ Mysterious Stranger: thank you for the helpful tip on teamwork feats for archers, as I've been struggling w/ that topic. I have a 5th level Inquisitor (Sin Eater) archer, which I already know isn't an optimal Inquisitor archer build but fits in w/ the campaign RP-wise.

To me the thing that makes the inquisitor unique among the classes is the sheer versatility of what he can do. The ability to adapt your character to any situation is incredible. When the inquisitor first came out the number and scope of teamwork feats were limited. As more books have been released the number and scope of the teamwork feats have grown.

I figure having a choice of a wide number of situational feats is often better than having a single more useful ability. The fact that some of the abilities boost other things besides archery is actually a good thing. There may be times when you are not able to use archery, and having the ability to use another tactic will be important.

Do you have access to the Ranged Tactics Toolbox? Friendly Fire Maneuvers is well worth taking. Don’t forget that even with precise shot your allies will often end up giving your target soft cover. This works well with coordinated shot to get the bonus.

I am going to retrain the useless (at least, never really utilized by my PC) Swap Places I took earlier for Friendly Fire Maneuvers; shamefully, I'd sort of forgotten about soft cover, and I'd like not to have to think about it anymore than I need to.

I do not own Ranged Tactics Toolbox but found the feat online easily enough. Thank you again.

If you would go Royal accuser you could go Samsaran with mystic past life, pile up all the favored enemies in one basket and raid the ranger spell list for instant enemy spell and another cherry pick, take two levels of ranger for an additional favored enemy and ranger style feat and a level of hinterlanter for yet another extra favored enemy and a bow feat and at level 15 you have +5 favored enemy aberration.

Then you can open combat with swift action: instant enemy for a +10 to hit and +10 damage with your bow because of favored enemy, full attack. consider favored defense for a nice +5 to AC to because between -2 to con from being Samsaran and being strapped for feats your defense will be probably not that great

Second round bane for another +2 to hit and another 2+4d6. Most stuff should be dead after two such barrages...

If you would go with Royal accuser stack it with sanctified slayer, at least you get two more ranger style feats that help getting all your bow feats
