Colored bases and Sharpies

Accessories

I just did a fight this weekend which required 13 of the same type of pawn. Management of that fight was a pain because I could never remember which was moster2 and which was monster11. My thought for solving that in the future is to buy one of the brighter colored bases (yellow or red) and use a sharpie to write a number on the bases, making them unique. My only question with that is will the sharpie stick to the base or just rub off?

thanks

I’ve used a gold sharpie on black bases with a lot of success! Can’t say anything about normal sharpies on different colors but I assume the results wouldn’t change.

I had some bases 3D printed that include numbers on the base. Made white, red, and grey 1-10, so that's plenty of variety. There's a free design out there. Not hard to find.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with a 3D printer.

I use colored elastic rubber bands of my daughters. It's like 2$ for 300.

I just put it around bases (mini in my case but works the same for pawns) when facing multiple oponents of the same kind. Now it's easy to keep track of blue orc HP or red orc turn. I put the color in the creature name in Herolab to make the combat manager easy to track.

Etsy is your friend when it comes to 3D printing. Try contacting Scott with Archania Workshop, he has created several custom items for me. The prices are quite reasonable and he will likely negotiate with you if you think they're a bit high.

I bought one of each color; Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Purple.
With the black that comes with the box sets, that gives me 7 colors.
Whenever I have more mooks than bases, I just stick 2 of them together.
RR, BBu (Blue), GG, YY, OO, PP, and BBk (Black).
If you have to go more than that, you can mix colors; RBu, RG, RY, etc.
Or you could get some cardboard, cut them into 1"x2" pieces and start numbering them.
I have done all of the above.

No worries, if you live anywhere near civilization.

First up... the 3D design.

Second... where to get it printed.

There are likely other services (maybe Shapeways) that can do this for you, but 3DHubs is what I used. You enter your location, and your model, and it puts you in contact with a partner who has the right equipment to do the run, near you. You message back and forth to discuss details (for instance my request for multiple runs in different colours.) They provide you a quote after they see the design file. This was cheap... I think I paid something like $16 CDN for four sets of ten. My guy waived the "setup" charge for doing four runs, because they were so simple.

Anyway, some of the printing partners will also ship the product, which for this... will cost far more than the actual bases.

I can offer that this design is nice. It's clearly 3D-printed, so you'll see the lines where material was added. The only thing I'd comment on is that the vertical bars where the pawn goes don't have the tiny indents inside that Paizo's bases have, so a pawn is pretty loose. I can't be bothered, but seriously, a single bit of paper, or a small line of masking tape inside would make them tight. It's something stupid like 1/128th of an inch "too" wide a gap. But I don't actually have a problem with it.

Sorry I couldn't provide all the details while I was on lunch at work; I usually try to be more helpful.

My public library has 3D printing facilities in their makerspace.

You might check to see if there's a library nearby with a 3D printer
