Shapeshifting build non nature themed

Advice

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I was curious what are people's go to builds/classes for a shapeshifting character that is not nature themed (As most of the builds I find are very nature themed shifter, druid, ranger with archetypes etc..)

I'm not too picky with having a ton of forms I just would rather be turning into different forms than animals/elementals/plants

I know of the spheres of power shifter and would love to try it but this upcoming campaign is 1st party only.

Go Synthesis Summoner, Learn Transmogrify at 10th level. You are still stuck with the base body type but everything else can be changed daily.

Liberty's Edge

Metamorph Alchemists are not the most exciting in terms of class features - but they're better than they look at low levels.

They get monstrous physique at hours/level, mutagen and alchemist discoveries. Really good at being a wall of HP or a brute.

If your GM allows any bestiary entry for the MPII options and higher, though, it's super busted from 9th level onwards. Cool archetype with a little curation and work with the GM though.

Transmuter Wizards.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I will look into all of those.

Check out the Totemic Skald. Rage, rage powers, wild shape, bard spells make for a strong melee character.

Tiger makes a great choice. The dex helps AC and pounce is obviously amazing.

A few different Bloodrager bloodlines involve shapeshifting. I’d recommend giving those a look.

Scarab Sages

There's also the Moon-Cursed barbarian archetype that shapeshifts while raging. Honestly one of the coolest barbarian archetypes out there.

Thanks again. Now I have too many options. Keep em coming if you know more shapeshifting characters are my favourite "type so the more options the better.

I don't think the Beastkin Barbarian has been mentioned yet. It's similar to the Moon-Cursed Barbarian.

The shapeshifter sorcerer 3rd level power makes any shape shifting spell last hours per level. You can get it on any character with vmc sorcerer.

If you are going with a caster chassis you are going to have to be careful with your melee combat options because of your low BAB and hp.

To compensate here are some suggestions:
Defensive Spells - Mage Armor, False Life, Shield, Mirror Image, Defending Bone, Ablative Barrier are all good options for keeping yourself alive.

Boosting Attack rolls - Bull's Strength, Heroism, Greater Magic Weapon, Haste can all increase accuracy.

Spell- Remember that spells like Beast Shape, Plant Shape, Elemental Body, Ooze Form prevent you from casting spells. Forms like Monstrous Physique, Form of the Dragon, Fey Form still allow you to keep your gear and cast spells. The main advantage of the Druid variant aside from it being Supernatural and long duration is Natural Spell. They also gain access a level earlier or 2 than a Sorcerer.

Grab Toughness, a decent Str/Dex/Con and Casting Stat. I would look at a 16/14/14/10/10/14 build for a Sorcerer with stat mod boosting Strength.

Traits Transmuter of Korada would be the go to magic trait. I would look at Wayang Spell Hunter for Shield or Mirror Image to drop a quickened version once you have 4th or 5th level spell.
