theres two things you could make use of, scaled fist monk for cha based monk of empyrean blood line sorc to make wis base sorc

I don't see that bloodline.

here

Oh, ok. Thanks.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Charisma should be highest. A super high Wisdom isn't needed, since they have good Will saves from sorcerer and Scaled Fist monks use Charisma for AC and Stun DCs and stuff.

Yes, though if I go with Empyreal Bloodline, he'll need a high Wis for spells.

A monk needs Wis, a sorcerer needs Cha. That combo of archetype and bloodline swaps them. It would be best to take one or the other, not both.

I think I'll take the monk archetype and a different bloodline.

So adjusting for a Cha based monk, I'm thinking of these stats.

10 Str, 18 Dex, 16 Con, 14 Int, 16 Wis, 20 Cha.

I found a neat weapon for my monk to use. It's called the Rope Dart. It's a monk weapon so he can flurry with it, and it's a ranged weapon with a 20 foot range. On the ground, 20 feet is easily covered, but since he'll be flying, he'll just hover over their heads and throw it down. Though I'd need to figure out a way to get dex to damage.

Gak, forgot that Monks are Lawful. Since he's not a cleric, would he be able to have a Lawful Evil alignment even though he worships Rovagug?

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Sure.

I just looked at the Monk's page again. Non-lawful monks can't take anymore monk levels, but they keep all of their class abilities. So he can be Chaotic Evil just fine.

Ok, so now onto the sorcerer half of him. What bloodline do I pick? Sorcerers don't have much in the way of class features outside of their bloodline.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Maybe aberration or protean?

Rovagag is the monster deity that was locked away by all the other gods, right?

Also, check out Bloodline Mutations.

Yes, he is.

I'm going through the bloodlines. I kinda like the abilities from Starsoul.

again im gona say the lawful only restriction is dumb in the 1st place just get rid of it

Just call him a Martial Artist.
They fight like a monk but are not always lawful.
Think of it as a homebrew archetype.

5th Edition did. :-)

EDIT:

Starsoul looks fun! Not needing to breathe and Breach the Gulf look like fun!

The Stormborn bloodline also looks pretty good.

Rovagug has the Weather domain. So the Stormborn bloodline would fit in thematically.

draconic would also fit in thematically

I think I'm going to go with Stormborn. I like it better for this.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

That's a solid option.

Any way to make him an archer of some kind?

EDIT:

Nevermind, just remembered you were gestalting him with a non-Zen Archer monk.

Yeah, Zen Archer doesn't work with Unchained Monk, it seems. And it doesn't work with Scaled Fist, either.

Well, an Unchained Monk/Sorcerer gestalt does not hurt for feats at all. He gets 15 feats, not including the bonus class feats that get at first level. 2 of them are from his sorcerer bloodline and 5 are from the monk list.

For one of the bloodline feats, I'm going to go with Skill Focus Fly. Wind Stance would probably be good for the other one as it gives 20% concealment against ranged attacks when I move. And since he'll always be out of melee range, protection against ranged attacks would be nice.

Hey, how do you roll for things like concealment and soft cover?

I'm going with the trait Monk Weapon Skill to get some more damage on the Rope Dart. Since there's no way to get dex to damage with a thrown weapon, I'll have to rely on enhancements and abilities.

If you have 20% concealment against ranged weapons, when you are targeted with a ranged attack, you roll 1d100, and if the result is 20 or less, the attack misses.

The other kind of concealment and cover are environmental effects. I think concealment works the same way. Cover grants a bonus to AC. The specific rules are in the CRB.

I'm out of practice because I've been playing 5th Edition. :-P

Ok, thanks.

Ok, so my character gets 8 regular feats and 5 Monk feats. Since I'm going with Wind Stance for one of my bloodline feats, I need to take Dodge. I'd rather take that out of the regular feats than the Monk feats as I don't need to qualify for Monk feats. So he gets 5 Monk feats and 7 regular feats.

These are the feats I can select as a Monk: Catch Off-Guard, Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows, Improved Grapple, Scorpion Style, Throw Anything, Gorgon’s Fist, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Disarm, Improved Feint, Improved Trip, Mobility, Improved Critical, Medusa’s Wrath, Snatch Arrows, Spring Attack, Dragon StyleUC, Intimidating Prowess, Dazzling Display, Dragon FerocityUC, Disheartening DisplayACG, Dragon RoarUC, and Shatter Defenses.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I would focus on defensive feats, since he's mostly going to hang back and do spell attacks.

Dodge, Deflect Arrows, Mobility, Snatch Arrows, Improved Critical (ray).

I think there is a Spell Dancer feat or something that is like Shot on the Run, but for spells.

EDIT:

Or Flyby Attack....

Yeah. Deflect Arrows looks pretty good. I don't think I'll need Mobility since he won't be in anyone's threatened range unless they can fly too.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

At 15th level, they'll have overland flight and/or mass fly and/or air walk and/or windwalk and probably magical flying items or at least potions or scrolls of fly. Even if they're "only" 13th level, they will have limited wish, which can be used to cast any spell of 5th or 6th level.

True. In the game I'm playing now, we're only level 8 but almost all of us have a way to fly.

Ok. So out of the Monk bonus feats, I like these the best:

Deflect Shot: Once per round, take no damage from a single ranged attack. Must have one hand free.
Disheartening Display: When you use Dazzling Display, against a shaken, frightened, or panicked foe, increase their fear by one step. A panicked foe cowers. Requires Dazzling Display.
Mobility: +4 dodge against AoOs from moving through threatened spaces.
Dazzling Display: Make Intimidate check to demoralize foes within 30 feet that can see you.
Snatch Arrows: When using Deflect Arrows, can catch attack instead. Thrown weapons can be thrown back at attacker as immediate action, or kept for later. Must have one hand free.

I'm taking Indomitable Will as my other trait to boost his Will a bit. Now I just need to pick out 7 more feats, 4 ki powers, and 3 strike styles.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Spell Focus and Metamagic feats are classics for a reason. :-)

Flyby Attack to enhance mobility.

Lightning Stance?

Sounds good.

I'm going to take Deadly Aim since it applies to thrown weapons as well as regular ranged weapons.

Ok, I've picked out all but one of my monk's feats. 3 of them apply to his flying and the other 3 apply to ranged attacks, which the Rope Dart is.

Acrobatic: +2 Acrobatics and Fly
Careful Flyer: Even if you fly at less than half your speed, as long as you take a move action to fly, you do not need to make a Fly check. If you do move less than half speed, +2 Acrobatics to avoid AoOs and +2 AC against AoOs from movement. Requires Acrobatic.
Graceful Flyer: Increase Fly speed by 5 and improve maneuverability by one step.
Deadly Aim: Can take -4 Atk with ranged attacks to gain +8 Dam.
Point Blank Shot: +1 Atk and Dam with ranged weapons for attacks within 30 feet.
Rapid Shot: Can make an extra ranged attack at full BAB. All attacks take -2 Atk with this feat. Requires Point Blank Shot.

I have one more feat to pick out. I'm leaning towards Necromantic Affinity, Precise Shot, or Impact Critical Shot.

I'm going to go with Necromantic Affinity. That way he can heal himself and the barbarian with a Mass Inflict spell. And I'm switching out Careful Flier for Extra

As for Ki Powers, I'm going with these:

Furious Defense: Immediate action, use 1 ki point to gain +4 Dodge until the end of your next turn.
Abundant Step: Move action, use 2 ki points to move as if using the spell Dimension Door. CL is equal to monk level. Can’t take others with you.
Diamond Resilience: Swift action, use 1 ki point to gain DR 2 for one minute.
Diamond Soul: Swift action, use 2 ki points to gain SR 25 for 15 rounds.
The archetype makes you take the Elemental Fury and Dragonic Breath Ki powers.

And these 3 Strike Styles:
Defensive Spin: If attack hits, gain +4 Dodge against target until start of next turn. Requires Unarmed Strike with fist.
Leg Sweep: If attack hits, can make free trip attempt using BAB of attack. Does not provoke, requires Unarmed Strike with kick.
Spin Kick: Attack is against target’s Flat-Footed AC. Does not work against foes with Uncanny Dodge or similar abilities. Requires Unarmed Strike with kick.

Now I just need to buy gear.

Ok, I picked out his gear.

Masterwork Rope Dart +5, Monk's Robe, Belt of Incredible Dexterity +4, Ring of Protection +5, Cloak of Resistance +5.

He has 80699 gold left. This is including taking out the cost of the Collar of Obedience put on the Antipaladin.

I'm not sure what else to buy. His AC is 33, Touch 32, and Flat-Footed 26. That's pretty good for no armor or shield. Should I go ahead and buy the Amulet of Natural Armor? He'll be down to 30k if I get the +5.

Apparently the Inflict Wounds spells aren't on a sorcerer's spell list. I'll have to buy a wand.

spell research is a thing sorcerers can do so you can add it to the sorc list :)

What's that?

here allows you to design your own spells, alternativly you can just take spells form other casters lists and add them to your own if all you want to do is have a spell that acts as x spell, like i want an arcane version of flame strike, just take the flame strike spell from the cleric list instead of going out and doing the number crunch on designing a new spell

Understood.

I bought a Wand of Mass Inflict Light Wounds at its lowest caster level. A non-Mass Wand wouldn't be that effective in direct combat and this was the cheapest one. This way at least the PCs can get it after they beat him.

I finished his sheet. Link

I might buy Flame or Frost for the Rope Dart, but that would be the last thing I buy for him. I might not even do that since he can give it Shock for 21 rounds a day.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Instead of buying a wand with 50 charges, buy one with 5 or 10 charges and maybe up the spell level a bit?

How does that affect pricing?

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Fractionally. A wand with 5 out of 50 charges costs 1/10th of a fully charged wand.

Thank you. I will keep that in mind.
