Since the first previews of Starfinder Society I've been obsessed with the concept of "slotting" boons. When the Roleplaying Guild Guide was released I went to work making a physical product that would track what boons I had available and which would physically slot which boons I was using for a particular scenario. I've been using it for a few months and it makes things so much easier to understand. Now that the Starfinder Society logos are a part of the Community Use Package, I can release the files for anyone else who wants to make their own!

The front has areas for tracking reputation with every faction, infamy, and fame, as well as cutouts to display the six boons you have slotted for a given scenario (and two Slotless if you need reminders). The back has the basic rules of fame and reputation, descriptions of commonly used slotless boons - such as Basic Purchases - and room for you to make note of every boon you buy or otherwise gain in the course of play.

The files for the Tracker and the Boon Cards to go with it can be found here in both ANSI A and ISO A4 sizes. I welcome any feedback.

Don't know if it's just me or not, but the Scenario Boons can't be downloaded; all I see in that folder is a generic Adobe Acrobat icon.

Unlike everything else that file is actually a PDF portfolio (multiple PDFs combined in one master file). It’s set up in a way to minimize spoilers.

I’m wondering if some readers can’t handle portfolio files on the web. Try actually downloading the file (right click) and then open it locally.

I tried that. I also tried a different browser and a different computer. Sometimes I get an unknown server error; sometimes I'm told the file is password protected. If others are able to download the scenario boons without issue, the problem must be on my end. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a different network; I'll try that later today.

I was able to download and open it. That doesn't automatically mean the issue is on your end, but.... :-(

I'm also not able to use the PDF portfolio with out of the box Ubuntu/Unity; Evince refers me to get Adobe. Which I dislike :P

Maybe a more practical (platform/user-independent) solution is to make a single file per scenario? That way nobody has to peek at scenarios they haven't played yet. (Yes, you could peek, but you can also peek at people's chronicles when doing a GM audit or when a fellow player is sitting next to you or by buying the scenario or through VO access or in another five ways.)

You could even put 6-7 times the same boon on it per scenario file page, so that GMs can distribute them if they like. If you want to be obscure about which scenarios actually have boons, put up empty files for the boonless ones.

The Exchange 4/5 5/5

Well, it seems that not all PDF readers handle portfolios the same way as Adobe Acrobat (which I use). What's supposed to happen is that when you open the portfolio the "Intro" or "Readme" file automatically opens. It is not password protected and contains instructions for deriving the passwords for the individual boon files in the portfolio (which do have passwords).

I'll see about getting individual files up this evening for people whose readers can't handle portfolios.

Sovereign Court 4/5 5/5 ** Venture-Lieutenant, Netherlands—Leiden

What features beyond plain text reading any viewer will support is a total lottery really. So the safest plan is to rely on as dumb as possible PDFs.

I really like this project by the way. I finally got around to playing some Starfinder and sorting out the boons is still on my to do list, so doing it right from the start would be nice :)

4/5 5/5

I was able to download the scenario boons on my iPad and open the individual PDFs with GoodReader.

OK, individual PDFs for each scenario are in the folders now.

You know if you are worried about spoilers, you could just not put all the text from the boon on the cards. You could just put a spot to write the chronicle number so if you ever need to know the exact wording you can look it up. Here's an example of what I use: https://imgur.com/Mw4JMgl

I put these in a standard 9 card sleeve page with all of one type of boon in one slot. Then just move which ever boon I've slotted for that scenario to the top of the stack so it's the only one showing.

However, I really like what you've done here and my have to use it myself. Very nice work.

In the ANSI A folder, for Convention and Web Boons, you've got two files, but I can't see a difference between them. Which do I use?

The Exchange 4/5 5/5

Not sure how that happened.

Fix: Deleted one file.

Holy hand grenades, this is awesome. I can't wait to try this out. I was thinking of typing the boons up and printing them off playing card size to make them easier to handle like I do my spell lists, but this idea works way better!

I did a really nice looking business card idea.

Currently working on Starship Actions into playing cards.

Thank you for doing this, Kevin!

Rather than doing the inserts, I think I'm going to just print pages 1 and 3 on a single piece of paper, double-sided, and then jot stuff down in pencil on the front bit - not as impressive or flashy as your demo picture, but for a sometimes-sorta-luddite like me, it'll do rather nicely! :)

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

Looks awesome!

I was thinking of creating my own baseball card holder but this looks way more "official".

Thank you!

Good to have some free Starfinder tracking boon stuff for organized play. ;)

These are very cool, but I do not see the Adventure Path Boons. Am I missing them or did they never get created?

Do you have a blank template in whatever you created this in?

The Exchange 4/5 5/5

Look for the Adventure Path boons to be a part of the next monthly update (sometime after SFS 1-08 releases on Jan 31st).

I’m not sure if I’m going to release a blank template. Right now I’m leaning towards “no.” I’ve seen many products fracture and become incompatible due to the lack of a centralized change authority. If I ever find myself unable to keep up I will certainly make sure the source files are available.

I am looking for the complete text from the various convention boons that were released recently (super-regional GM Personal boons). If anyone has received such a boon, feel free to send me an e-mail with the verbatim text at dfwpfskevin@gmail.com.

I can't seem to find the boons for "Welcome to Starfinder Society" boon ("Elixer of Renewal", "Tattoo of the Starfinder", "Spellgem Cache"). Has it not bee added?

New Updates 11 May, 2018

  • Added 1-12 to Scenario Boons
  • Added 1-13 to Scenario Boons

Sorry for the delay, I was out of the country for a couple of weeks. May's scenarios will likely NOT be up before PaizoCon as I will be traveling to Seattle on the Wednesday they are released.

A couple of people have pointed out that the text of the cards does not always exactly match the text of the chronicle sheet. This is intentional. Some of the chronicle boons are so long that I would have to make the text on the cards tiny in order to fit it all. I edit the card text to fit while keeping the usage clear. Your chronicle is still the official source.

New Updates 3 June, 2018

  • Added 1—14 to Scenario Boons
  • Added 1—15 to Scenario Boons

Upcoming Changes

  • With the release of the first minor faction and additional (unnamed) future factions being talked about at PaizoCon, I'm splitting the boons from the SFS RPG Guide into individual faction files, as well as the new Manifold Host. This isn't a lot of work and I'm already well into it. Projected availability date - 29 June
  • Also in support of the new factions, I'm playing with the layout of the Boon Tracker as a whole to potentially provide more than 6 faction options. This is a bit more complicated. Projected availability date - 31 August

awesome job - i was just going to do the cards and put them in a baseball card holder, but that looks much more professional. kudos!!

only suggestion i would like to give is to have a second boon tracker for just slotless boons, as you can have as many as you want - there are some of them that i tend to slot for just about every scenario and so i have like 3 or 4 of them. This also allows someone to create more than one Slotless Tracker as needed, and the back would provide even more room to record boons as they'll stack up over time.

on the main tracker, swap out the two slotless boons for promotional boons, for a total of three. that should be enough for most people as you could have a t-shirt, faction pin, and character folio for the three big boons.

That’s not a bad idea but I’m not sure how many people would use it. The point of the tracker is to say “these are the boons I slotted for this scenario. This is what I have to pay attention to.” But you don’t actually have to “slot” Slotless boons. You can always use all of them. And you can easily accumulate more than a dozen of them. Even another page may not be enough. The boon tracker just provides for a way to remind yourself of a couple. (And honestly, the main reason I put those two slots on is that there was extra space.)

I will put making a separate slotless tracker on my list of potential future expansions.

I have become aware of how fast the number of boons accumulate, and the potential for running out of lines. I am considering what to do about that - Open to suggestions!

Unless you have a specific boon that says otherwise, (Acquisitives) you can only slot one Promotional boon. I did consider that option, but there are other boons (RSP) that can let you slot multiples of other boon types. It’s not possible to account for all possible combinations when the mathematics of the required space only allow for 8 cutouts. If you are using the Acquisitives boon, feel free to slot the extra promotional boons in the “slotless” slots.

sounds good - my point about putting the slotless boons on another sheet/page is that you could just print out multiple pages if you are using more than six or eight... i tend to run about the same group of boons every scenario, and i can already fill out a sheet of just slotless boons...

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

When I use my baseball card sheets, I can fit all my slotless boons on the back (since it's see through).

My Soldier is 1xp from 7th Level and still has 6 Slotless slots left in his sheet.

This is a very cool project! Nicely done, and simple enough for everyone to use.

But I wonder if the community could lend me a hand on a related project. Since I live in hotels and travel 365 days a year, I need an electronic version of this. I tried making one in Google Sheets, using a different tab for each boon category, Data Verification to pull the list of boon names into a dropdown list, then VLOOKUP to pull the text onto a front page. (Link below.)

But it acts weird. Some of the pulldowns work perfectly, but on some a certain name (Wayfinders Champion) doesn't work, but changing the name makes it work (hence some of the odd or truncated Boon names.) Or it pulls the names, but the VLOOKUP doesn't work correctly. Even though the formulas are exactly the same!

I think it could be useful for people who principally play from mobile/laptops and for PBP players, and obviously for those traveling to play. If someone gets it working flawlessly, I'll rename it, add instructions, and disseminate it to the Community.

Any Excel/Sheets gurus willing to take a stab at this?

New Updates 3 June, 2018

  • Added 1—16 to Scenario Boons
  • Added 1—17 to Scenario Boons
  • Added 1—99 to Scenario Boons

Should be just the scenario boons. If you find any other boons with a password on them, please let me know. The readme file contains instructions for determining the password.

Quote:

Why can’t I open these files?!

As a very basic method of preventing spoilers, the boons are password protected. The password for each individual scenario file is the first 8 letters (all lowercase, ignoring spaces and other punctuation) of the main text on the chronicle sheet for that scenario. Look at your chronicle to find the password.

Example 1:
The first line of the chronicle begins with Variable Rewards:
The password is: variable
Example 2:
The first line of the chronicle begins with Hero of the Stars (Starship Boon; Limited Use):
The password is: heroofth
Example 3:
The first line of the chronicle begins with Starfinder Insignia (Slotless Boon):
The password is: starfind
Example 4:
The first line of the chronicle begins with Faction’s Friend (Social Boon; Limited Use):
The password is: factions

New Update 25 August, 2018

  • Added 1-18, 19, 20, and 21 to Scenario Boons
  • Updated Dead Suns AP boons to include all 6 books
  • Added Against the Aeon Throne to Adventure Path Boons

Upcoming Changes:

  • The Boon Tracker Holder update is coming along well. It will provide support for tracking reputation with at least 8 factions. I have decided to hold off on releasing it until after the next version of the SFS RPG Guide releases, as some additional updates may be required with the Guide changes.
  • I need to add this year's convention boons. If anyone has a list of the boons from GenCon, please send me a copy.

Author's Note: I struggled with a few of the boons in this set of releases. In particular there are several that are tagged as Limited Use which seem to have both limited and multi-use portions but do not include text saying when to cross off the boon, or if part of the boon is still usable. Lacking clarification, I went with what seemed to be the intent. If you find a clarification different from what I used, please post a link. If you disagree with my interpretation, please ask for clarifications in the relevant GM discussion thread!

Kinda slow on announcing the latest additions, but better late than never I guess.

  • Added 1-22 and 1-23 to Scenario Boons
  • Added a Second Seekers (Jarnuda) faction directory. At the moment the only boon available to players is the basic Faction Champion boon.

Great job on these, I really like using it and get a lot of compliments at the table.

I just played 1-22 and noticed you didn't change the name in the description of the boon from your copy of a previous scenario's boon.

I’ll check on this today or tomorrow and correct as necessary. I will also be uploading the latest boons. I had a minor water leak and had to move everything from my home office to the dining room (in pieces). Putting it back together today.
