1 person marked this as a favorite.

I did get into google docs and figured out how to create a map and add some markers to it. Sharing it would not be an issue. I am guessing we would have PC sheets stored there also and some other spreadsheets and documents. Reading the sticky notes, it looks like after I create and post a recruiting page it will show me links to the campaign page and a gameplay page? Or do I need to create those myself?

Die rolls?

Silver Crusade

My experience is as a player, rather than as a GM, so I'm not up on the campaign page setup part.

PC sheets are commonly stored in the profile section of the player's character aliases. You can also link to an external source, such as Microsoft OneDrive, if you want. Here's an example.

Click on the button "How to format your text" below the post window to see how to do dice rolls. If you enter a dice expression and click "Preview", you can see the result and edit you post based on that. The dice roll will stay the same after the edit.

Didn’t even think to look for dice in the formatting. Thanks for the link to the alias. Very cool.

You need to create the Gameplay and Discussion threads yourself, but if you name them something close to the title of the Recruitment thread the board will ask if you want to connect them under a campaign.

Incidentally, if you're starting a campaign and you have all your players lined up already, please don't bother creating a Recruitment thread. You can just start with the Discussion thread; the boards do not require you to have a Recruitment thread.

Ok sounds good. No players lined up..

Can I use aliases as NPCs in my campaign or limit them to just my various PCs?

(None of which are ready yet)

That's up to you. Some people do it that way. I don't tend to, but that's because I don't like having extra aliases.

I'm playing around with npc alias atm.
If you have a long running NPX that will accompany your pcs for a long time, I am all for it, so a mentor, local high-priest or your evil BBEG.
Others can be grouped to a collection of NPCs.
Maybe create an alias named 'Friendly NPC' or maybe 'Enemies' if you want to.
Then you may simply edit their profiles under 'name' you can add the name of the NPC your PCs are currently talking to or whatever. That way your profile does not explode with short-lived aliases.

A word of caution: Once you have posted under an alias, that alias can't be deleted. Once you've posted 10 times under an alias, the name of that alias can't be changed.

So if you make an alias for every NPC, you're going to end up with a lot of them under your profile. Some people don't mind this, some people do.

For combat purposes I've seen it done where the DM has one or more generic enemy aliases, like "Enemy #1", and then presents the current specifics in the alias header (the info in the alias profile's Gender, Class/Levels, and Race fields).
