Interest Check: Legacy of Fire, Council of Thieves, or Ironfang Invasion

Recruitment

This is a check for interest; I deeply love the first two APs in the title, and have not yet had the opportunity for the third.

I thought it might be best to ask my potential players which option would be the most preferred.

I have no arguments for or against LoF; it was one of my most-enjoyed gaming experiences, and I would enjoy running this again.

Council of Thieves could be a completely different ball game with the verisimilitude of social options added since its release.

Ironfang Invasion, being the newest (completed) AP, may have been played out on here recently.

Let me know which, if any, holds the most interest for you. Thanks.

Any of the first two choices would be great. Legacy and Council don't get played too much on the forums nowadays.

I'd be super interested in LoF, and also in CoT though I am running that as a solo-game for a friend (and not IF only because I'm already in a game of that.)

I've always been interested in LoF and the interesting options it presents.

Never played any of them so I’d be interested in any of these

I would be massivly interested in Ironfang and also in Legacy of thieves.

Sovereign Court

I've tried playing all three of these on the boards, and all of them collapsed. I'd certainly be interested in trying again.

I tried CoT on PbP once (on another site), but it died out very early.

CoT spoilers, I guess:
The random sewer crawl was pretty painfully boring in PbP format, so much so that the game died before we got close to finishing it, so if you decide to run that, it'd be a good idea to streamline or perhaps even just skip it altogether.

Otherwise all three sound great.

Legacy of Fire would be cool, I've never had the chance to play it and I've only heard great things

I've played Legacy of Fire but would like to try out either of the other two. Dotting for interest.

I would like the first two, having never run or played LoF or CoT.

Sovereign Court

DBH here is a rock-solid, reliable poster who keeps things moving, by the way.

Blush.

Either of the three would be nice to play, but I always did like Urban adventures best.

Very interested in Council of Thieves.

I’ve never played the first two. I was in two Ironfang games that died by about the third level. I’d be happy to play in any of the three.

Council of Thieves would be the one I'm most interested in.

Count me in for any, but my choice would be Council of Thieves, Ironfang Invasion, and Legacy of Fire in that order!

I'd totally be down for Council of Thieves or Legacy of Fire. I had an interesting idea for Legacy of Fire but I'd need a volunteer to make it properly work.

I get that you are WILLING to run any of the 3, but I think you should plan to run the one you are most interested in seeing play through. You are more likely to give that one the love and attention required for longer than you are the others.

Whichever you pick, players will be available. Honest.

Now, me? I'm a Boy Scout in many ways. I can play a shady type when called for, but I have trouble working in an environment where I can't be sure the other players are (generally) on the same side I am. I seem to remember the impression that CoT allows for pretty direct internal party rivalry. I remember having turned away from CoT advertisements previously because of that impression.

I second that, the single most important thing in the PbP is the DM's interest. lol.

I'd be game for any of them! They all sound awesome :)

Not surprising that Legacy of fire and Council of Thieves are the most requested, they are two of the least popular Adventure paths despite the fact that people want to play them.

What's the idea?

There's part of my problem though; I'm interested in all three. I no longer have the regular group of in-person players I had a decade ago, when it would've been feasible to spend six months and run all three consecutively. Should this first one go well, six or so months from now when we've made it through a book or two, I'll likely start a second concurrent of one of the other options.

But the decision of which to start first is arbitrary. LoF is full of nostalgia for me; this won't be the same, but it'll still bring back the memories. CoT, we bought en masse when #6 was published back in '10; that's almost 8 years of new content, which, including the Vigilante and numerous other social mechanics, could literally make this a different game entirely than the one I played before, and that's fun in its own right. Also, I had to phone my old college mate, now a professional copy editor, because I was so bothered by my use of verisimilitude in the previous post. It's technically not wrong, in the same way that Tommy Wiseau's script of The Room is technicallly not wrong. IfI is all new to me; I've even only read the first three parts as of yet, and it seems like a very sick campaign.

But it does look like the leanings are more to LoF or CoT, which I expected given their ages. From here on, let's limit this check to those two.

And thanks for the input from everyone so far.

Both of those sound very interesting though I'm partial to CoT. It is the first AP I ever played years ago and I haven't played it since. Like you said, all the new options probably turn that one around completely.

Then again, I'd also love LoF if only for the possibility to make a character with a sniper cactus companion.

The script to The Room contained a shot of Tommy Wiseau's ass, I fail to see how that could be anything BUT wrong?

Seconded the question from @Kobolum, what did you have in mind?

Given that choice, I'm more interested in LoF, but would happily submit to either.

Booth would be highly interesting.
With some leaning toward council of thieves!

I'm not really looking to play, probably. But as someone with knowledge of the first part of CoT and LoF, the opening of Legacy of Fire will be significantly better in PbP format. That's not to say you couldn't get the CoT opening adventure to a point where it could be equally good, but you could run LoF stock and it'll go great. It's really well setup for a storytelling-focused opening. CoT (as someone mentioned) is very tedious to start.

GM only:
There are some conversions in this thread. The book is originally for 3.5

Huh the site at my post from a few days back.

Council of Thieves would be my first preference followed by Legacy of Fire. Theoretically playing Ironfang Invasion in real life... in thelry so can't do that one.

Sovereign Court

Preference-wise I think I lean toward LoF, then CoT, then II.

(As stated before) I'm very interested in CoT. Interested in Legacy of Fire, just to a significantly lesser extent.

I have yet to play in any of these APs. That said, I think Legacy of Fire or Council of Thieves would be quite interesting to participate in.

Man, I would love another crack at LoF, started twice, never got very far. Any chance you would let a gnoll in the game?

A gnoll would be thematic for LoF; if I go that route, I'll make sure to keep unusual races in mind.

Would Spheres of Power or even just Words of Power be considered for any of these?

What about jnusual characters, such awakened animals, masterless familiars, etc?

Also, how much allowance is there for creative solutions and tactics? (silent image is a wonderful combat spell :)

For the third question, there's always room for creativity and innovative thinking.

As to the first two, I'm not really looking to make any sort of mechanical decisions at the moment; simply picking the option.

I would definitely like to play in a Legacy of Fire game! I would not turn down a Council of Thieves game though.

If you run Legacy of Fire, I will probably create a Sha'i'r type character with genie-binding and elemental magic.

If you run Council of Thieves, I might be interested in playing either a Virtuous Bravo Paladin or a Teisatsu Vigilante.

I'd be very interested in all three. I was selected for a Council of Thieves game here but the GM vanished shortly after the opening act. I've tried running Legacy in my home game, but didn't get past the start of the second book and would love to see how it goes from the player side. I have no connection with Ironfang invasion, but it has always seemed very interesting.

I'll vote for LoF.

I'd love a shot at LoF.

Dark Archive

I'd like to throw my hat in the Council of Thieves ring. That campaign I hold dear to me as it got me into Pathfinder in the first place. Plus I love Cheliax, obviously.

If CoT wins out, would you allow a LE cleric?

Legacy of Fire has long held my interest despite me knowing near nothing about it. Something about the whole Araaabian Niiights motif just appeals to me. So yeah, I'd be up for that.

Grand Lodge

any of them really, but the older ones as people have said would attract more attention

Dotting.

LoF intrigues me.

I'd prefer Legacy of Fire over Council of Thieves. CoT is the first AP developed for Pathfinder and suffers for it as a result. It wasn't until later AP's where they hit their stride.

Recruitment is up for Legacy of Fire.

As I mentioned, if this goes well, I'll likely run one of the others in the future.
