Timing on dealing damage

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Question as it specifically applies to Radovan. His ability "Once per turn, when a character at your locaion is delt damage by a bane, display a monster from the box next to a displayed devil form."

Does this work if the damage is prevented? How does the timing work? Does it matter how the damage is avoided?

I'm not aware of any powers which prevent damage, only those which can reduce damage dealt (possibly to 0). In the case of such powers, you are still dealt damage, and this power would trigger before you play any cards or use any powers to reduce damage taken.

If it wanted to make sure you actually took damage, the power would be worded something like "Once per turn, when a character at your location discards cards due to damage by a bane, ..." -- I believe similar wording already exists in cards that care you actually took damage, but I cannot find any examples offhand.

I thought so, but it got me thinking of other triggers that happen when you are dealt damage. I know the Set powers of some of the Mummy's Mask stuff says things like "if you are dealt damage and it is not reduced by at least 1 or 2 then X happens". That was far more clear cut, but it started me thinking of combos with characters that deal damage to themselves or other characters.

Zibini (but hers cant be reduced)
Skizza (this is fire damage and Radovan can mitigate that)
Crowne (this is electric, so might not be ideal)

Also there are cards that deal damage (especially fire damage) after using them.

Make note that Radovan's power cares for damage dealt by a BANE - so you will not be able to trigger it by your own cards/ hero powers.

This comment from Vic should largely clear it up.

@Longshot11 - Wow I completely missed that. All that theorycrafting in my head wasted.

Thanks
