Diplomancer: Envoy, Mystic, or...?

Advice

As the title. What class (or build really) would make for the best Diplomancer in Starfinder?

Liberty's Edge

Envoy.

Mystic can theoretically get a +7 and has to focus on a non-key stat to do really well. Operative only gets a +6. Nobody else gets anything at all.

Envoy, meanwhile, gets +1d8+4 eventually (for an average of +8.5), and gets other things that add to Diplomacy, and have Charisma as a major stat to boot.

Is the higher diplomacy skill superior to what an Overlord Connection Mystic can do with a few class features and spells to the function of a diplomancer?

Diplomancer is generally a term for someone who uses Diplomacy to achieve such things rather than magic. If you're willing to go into actual mind control, then yeah, Overlord will be better at controlling people.

I wouldn't generally call that a Diplomancer, though.

Fair enough. Is there a way combat can be ended using diplomacy in starfinder? That is an important consideration.

Thats pretty heavy into the realm of GM discretion and situation.

Doesn't that make the mystic better since he can hit the higher numbers more consistently, than can the envoy. Even though the envoy COULD get a higher roll, he usually won't over the mystic.

And the Operative can take 10 on his roll, unlike the first two, so even though he can't make the absolute highest DCs like they possibly could, he will be consistently beating the DCs he encounters far more often I'd wager.

No, with an average of 8.5, he will usually do better than the Mystic's 7. Its just not guaranteed. Combine that with the various social abilities, though, and it seems a slam dunk.

Not directly, but being really good at bluff and convincing your enemies that you have them dead to rights might help. Hidden agenda and convincing liar would help.

Try not to use this all the time, or with the same story twice if you want to keep your GM cooperative.

Eh, Lashunta Solarian who uses Sidreal Influence and Skill focus could get:

1d20+Cha+3 (class skill) +2 (student) +3 (Skill Focus) +1d6 (Sidreal Influence) +Ranks.

A 16 Cha at level 3 could potentially get:

1d20+1d6+14 = Avg 28 Diplomacy

Not too shabby.

You can take Skill Focus, but I wouldn't recommend it since it would only come into play if you roll below a 3 on your Sidereal bonus die. Since they're both insight bonuses, Sidereal Influence won't stack with Skill Focus. As an easy rule of thumb, pretty much any class-specific skill bonus (Envoy Expertise, Operative Edge, Solarian Influence, Mechanic Bypass, Mystic Channel Skill, Technomancer Techlore), is an Insight bonus and so won't stack with Skill Focus. Solarians can make good diplomacy users, but I agree with DeadManWalking that envoys are definitely the stars of the social scene.

Being able to T10 at all times is incredibly useful for many skills, but I'm not sure I'd put Diplomacy among them. Since you can't use diplomacy in combat anyway, it's been my experience that you can T10 on Diplomacy in most cases. If you like rolling and/or you're really worried about bad rolls (which makes sense, 1s really suck for diplomacy) you should take a look at the Slick Customer Expertise Talent. :)

In my opinion the best face* classes are Envoy> Operative** > Mystic** = Solarian

*By Face I mean a character who specializes in all social interaction - both Bluff, Diplomacy and Intimidate.

**Assuming they build for it by picking appropriate specializations etc. If it's a side gig for them then the Solarian will handily trounce both classes.
