Profession

Advice

So, I have a halfling rogue and I'm trying to decide what I want my profession to be. I have a craft already, and I'm looking for a good profession that I would be able to have fun with. I get a +4 to my prof.

Ultimately, my question is what is one profession you really liked having that you would recommend to someone else????

I usually just pick one that fits the flavour I'm going for, since the profession you choose doesn't really have a mechanical effect anyway. For an escaped slave character I have, they have Profession (miner), since they were forced to mine for years, and they're a dwarf. Any other details about this character? Pickpocket comes to mind for a rogue.

Well, my rogue was born to a guard and an alchemist. Alchemy is her craft. She became a rogue when her boyfriend got killed and come to find out that her parents hired her thieves guild leader to kill him. She left and ended up finding him while on a quest and killed him and became the leader

Based on that background, a couple of choices might be appropriate:

Profession (Clerk), if the character "kept the books" for the alchemist parent and/or helped with keeping track of stock and purchases.

Profession (Merchant), if the character was more involved in the actual sales of items and/or buying supplies.

Alternately, Profession (Barrister)*, Profession (Guard), or Profession (Scribe)** might be appropriate if the character spend more time with the other parent.

*- "Don't you want to be a lawyer when you grow up?" An ironic choice, perhaps.

**- Arrest records, court records, etc.

At least in my home games a profession allows you to roll on skills you don't have - but only in specific applications related to the profession. You have profession 'sailor' you might be able to roll knowledge nature even if you don't have it - for things like the tides, ocean currents, what have you, etcetera.

I like profession (cook), with a purchase of a masterwork tool (spice kit). It's always nice to make your latest kills taste yummy. It also involves the same generic skill set as alchemy.
