Spells to lower enemy saves for a Cleric

Looking for spells such as Prayer that can lower an enemy's saves. Cloud of seasickness I guess would be one but the problem is it allows a save which kind of sucks. Enervate would be another one. Any other good suggestions?


Broad question 'cause there's tons, any particular application and level? Bestow curse is a classic.


The problem is with bestow curse and others is that they also require a save. A witch can just sack your saves regardless if you make a save. Is there a high level Prayer or equivalent?


Make friends with a Witch!
Burrowing Shot is also a nice save debuff that doesn't allow a save against itself, though it takes a few feats for either yourself or an ally to acquire.

unfortunately no witches in this group. I'm a witch in my other campaign and it is phenomenal. I can't imagine not debuffing before dropping my SOS spells anymore. I don't know how wizards, clerics, etc do it. The chance of enemy successfully saving and you losing your spell are too great. I like that, evil eye -4 to saves then drop a SOS or Misfortune first if you truly wanna guarantee the kill. Getting off track here lol is there a better higher level version of Prayer? I believe they had one in 3.5 but maybe not here, there should be.

Archon’s Aura and Aura of Doom are both common options. Any spell that sickens. Iron spine, Ray of sickening, or any sickening metamagic spell.

Look for effects like entangled that will drop Ref indirectly.


Would Bane and Prayer stack to give my enemies -2 total to saves? Just found that one.

Bane will stop being a valuable standerd action. -1 is just to small.

Bane and Prayer both offer saves.

Cause Fear is one that works at low levels. Even if the opponent saves, they are shaken for a round.
